This week’s poll was suggested by Shipwreck! He writes:
With the announcement about new Erebor armour sets for update 10, and because I am just now getting my Hytbold armour, I have an idea for a poll. How determined are you about getting new sets of gear?
Shipwreck has provided us with several options but feel free to fill in your own or elaborate in the comments below! It doesn’t necessarily need to pertain to obtaining Erebor gear either, but how you go about collecting gear sets in general.
How determined are you about getting new sets of gear?

I tend to work for new armour sets if they have a clear advantage over older sets that I have for useful play-styles. For example, I worked to get 3 pieces of the Tower of Orthanc dps set for my captain because the set bonus supported the Lead the Charge line so well. I’m also working on getting pieces of the Ettenmoors Perseverance set for my captain as well.
On the other hand, I also worked on getting pieces from 2 sets Orthanc armour for my champion because: a) they had great stats and set bonuses, and b) they looked really cool on her.
But I haven’t been getting every set.

My friends and I can’t always get our schedules in order, so unless I can get the gear solo or with a really small group, I don’t bother.

For levelling I tend to go for long gaps with minimal upgrading of gear and then once things become a struggle get some new bits.
At 85 the Hytbold set is more than ample for the stuff the game will let me play so that’s about as far as my interest goes.

I mainly play solo or duo so if a gear set requires a raid-drop there is little chance I’ll get it unless it’s a guaranteed drop. Even that requires being able to find a PUG that isn’t a bag of fail. My odds for winning the lottery are better.

I’m tired of all the grind. I will probably have a look at the new raids, maybe even do them regularly. But the goal is to get T2 CM done not new armour. Although most of the sets do look awesome. I’m just still wondering if they are serious with that captains chest piece. It’s really horrible looking. Oh…I just remembered. You can’t die them anymore, although most hats are now with colour. =(

I meant dye of course -.-

Only if it’s fun. If it’s a grind, forget it, ’cause what do I need the gear FOR other than to grind more?

I have skipped the early gear collection in Rohan and just spend my time doing Hytbold dailies – I’m waiting till all the itemization changes and set bonus falls down and I’ll take a look at my gear. All the LI stuff gets cheaper and new stuff is added then I will go for the best gear.

I enjoy collecting things that don’t get outdated, like trophies, titles, steeds, but Gear is one thing I don’t collect.
It is simply a waste of time to me to spend uncounted hours getting a set only to have it outclassed in a matter of weeks or months.
Exception: if a set looks so stunning or iconic that I would use it often cosmetically.

I pick up the gear as needed based on set bonuses, stats, etc. Right now my mains run with mixes of ‘Moors gear. Not only is it easier to get, as I play my creeps quite a bit, but I find the set bonuses and stats far better than what’s provided in current PvE gear.
So if I see something in the new armour that fits in with my builds and needs for grouping, then I’ll go for it… otherwise, I don’t bother (unless, of course, cosmetically it’s awesome :p).

I honestly don’t really even get nor feel the need to get all the hype over gear. It seems like too much planning. I hate that I have 2-3 LIs that I MIGHT switch between when I actually remember. These are details I don’t have the memory to deal with.

I find that guild crafted gear is more than sufficient for my needs as a mostly-solo player. It seems like armor sets are difficult to obtain, and by the time I’ve gotten enough marks/tokens/whatever to get them, I’ve already leveled beyond the set. That’s probably a little different with level-cap armor (like Hytbold) but getting that kind of gear sounds like a huge grind, which isn’t something I’m interested in.

I am surprised to see the results as most people voted for small group and solo option. Which i voted myself too.

i have to get every one, cause there’s nothing more to do. And I start to be really bother with all of these collections (the last 85). Probably (fault of haven’t a clear direction of design or programming) mostly part of these items will go to the dust section vault (destroying could have more space performance) o:
Maybe Lotro should stop pretending too much, dont sell it like we were simply consumers. Lotro are CHEATING about the options we have all the time, one week we are buying something, later you offer something differente, later you change all, and add more no-final gear,(have some weeks of usefullness), and well, what can we do without time references (when instances will come? we could plan something? if Turbine would deign to BE HONEST,..(profitability to all).
Your ideas’ pool is full of workers doing something from and for his unique expectatives, IT SEEMS. Please mantein contact between the “sets makers”./joke Also you must have released the carefree smeagols in the middle of all. /joke
I will never try to get parts for either gear, pretend not compensate until you stop touching. However, i probably will not let pass any opportunity to grab the maximum possible amount of jewelry. This costs no marks or toquens, and IT works AS PATCH FOR A PATCH. And I’ve always preferred to be cooperative and let others access to what is offered in the loot, NO continuously compete for it.
Do something, but do it right. Do not waste time and effort (mine at least)

I agree, the rapidity of gear and legendaries going ‘obsolete’ is ridiculous. you think to yourself, oh well at least i can save up barter tokens for my alt to use then they take that away as well. whats the bloody purpose of it
February 24, 2013 at 8:20 am
being a solo player mostly, i have never gotten gear on level when it matters, I rely on crafting or what items are put up on AH. I only get gear after I have outleveled the area and can barter for it, then my only priority is if its pretty.
February 24, 2013 at 9:52 am
If I get it, I get it. I’ve long ago given up any hope of being a serious raider (I suck too badly at my raid-ready class).
February 24, 2013 at 1:29 pm
lol So many soloers. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I work in retail and deal with A LOT of difficult people. By the end of the day, dealing with anybody else is a scary prospect.

I spent a lot of time getting my current gear and it will get “downgraded” because of turbines U10 design decisions. As far as I’m concerned I am done with my build. I’ll look to improve when the next level cap is released if it’s worth doing so.

I do a bit of raiding but do it for the fun. I hate repetative grinding so have never gone for the big armour sets. I don’t see the point grinding so much of your time for gear that has a limited life. Lately I play the moors and achieved all the moors armour. In some ways a grind but not repetative.

I’ll be collecting the heal set for my RK, maybe a couple pieces of the lightning set just for giggles.
I already run with the 5 piece Moors heal set so I’ll just be getting the new raid set to play around. pretty happy with the bonuses on the gear I have. but I haven’t changed my gear set (aside from going from 75 to 85) since pre-RoI and I’d like some variety just to mix things up.
