This week’s poll was suggested by Kiarane. She’s curious how you obtain the majority of your Turbine Points.
We realize that in reality you may have a mix of several of these choices but which method is clearly used more than others to obtain Turbine Points. For example, of course I get TP from finishing my deeds, but I’m not finishing deeds for the purpose of gaining TP so I wouldn’t chose that as my answer.
How do you get your Turbine Points?
- I get them through VIP status (35%, 410 Votes)
- I deed grind like crazy! (29%, 344 Votes)
- I buy points when they are on sale (20%, 241 Votes)
- I buy points when I need them (11%, 135 Votes)
- Other (Leave a Comment) (2%, 28 Votes)
- I don't use the LOTRO Store (2%, 20 Votes)
- I ask for point cards as gifts (1%, 10 Votes)

I get them as a VIP but, I also buy them a couple of times a year when they’re on sale.

Lifetime membership. They just show up every month automatically. I don’t know what to do with them.

SO JEALOUS! oh I am so very jealous. Kudos to you for supporting LOTRO from a very early time.

Initially, I deed grinded like crazy. Now, I tend to buy expansions with large chunks of TP included with them.

I buy them when I need them. I spend an average of $30/month to play lotro. I like shopping the store.

TP farmer for a life! I just Deed-grind them because can’t afford to pay for a vip.

With the remote looting from Update 9, I have found deed grinding much more enjoyable. I have always been a packrat, so I’d tend to have to stop and make sure I manually loot each mob while slayer deeding. Now, I can just fly right through areas much quicker, and not have to take that extra couple of seconds per mob approaching and looting ‘em.

Like Yajard said, I usually buy the expansions with the largest TP bundles and grind deeds when I need a little more.
January 5, 2013 at 8:48 pm
On my main acct. I combo deed grind and get them from VIP. And on my Premium acct. I deed grind and drop some dollars here and there. The only thing I spend any large amounts of money on is expansions.

I have my 500 a month but I have been known to deed like crazy if there is something I really want. It is rare but I have bought tps, but only the cheaper packages and when on offer.

I get most of mine from the VIP (Lifetime membership), but I also get them from deeds, quests and a few times me and the husband have purchased expansions on sale.
January 6, 2013 at 1:33 am
Get them as a VIP, but also buy them maybe once or twice a year when theyre on a double bonus sale. If I grind deeds its for the virtues or to tidy up the deed log not the points.

I bought the Minithril and Rohan expansions when they where on sale. And they came with TP.
January 6, 2013 at 4:56 am
VIP, but on a good month I make around 500 again from deeds.
(Festival times tend to drop wayyyy down.)
I don’t usually purchase; but I did pick up the Mithril ed when it was going cheap a while back (2K TP iirc)
January 6, 2013 at 7:17 am
All of the above basically, I have no primary source of TP.
January 6, 2013 at 8:16 am
Lifetime, buy on sale and deed grind
Tend to only spend on sale items

I spent a LOT of time with all my toons grinding.
January 6, 2013 at 9:22 am
I’m VIP on and off, I’ve bought TP once, I bought Mithril Edition a few days ago cheap, and things like preorders. Most is from deeds though.
January 6, 2013 at 9:54 am
I voted other as I usually dont buy any more points tho I have been known to impulse buy a bundle when something is on a very good sale (half off sale fleet footed goat for example, something i always wanted but was too cheap to get)
January 6, 2013 at 11:02 am
The majority were won in a couple of kin trivia nights, (a couple of *very* generous prizes!) the cards I bought and of course the 500 a month via vip. Deeding for virtues once a toon hits 85 usually provides a nice bump in points as well.
January 6, 2013 at 11:06 am
Really missing a xp pack option in the votes so I voted I don’t use the shop. But the other option is probably better couldn’t really find the right option. I have a lot of points stock piled from xp packs though, also been vip for one month.

Bought myself a mithril edition a while ago now, in a previous deal, more for points than the content. Similarly if I buy points then they’re on sale or a double deal thing.
Otherwise I just get them through the natural course of the game.
I dont tend to spend TP’s on stuff like mounts for alts so the TP I have usually lasts quite a while and increases fairly steadily as the alts get deeds and whatnot done.
January 6, 2013 at 1:34 pm
I’m a lifer, so get the VIP monthly, but it is nice that each time I log in I earn anywhere from 10-30 from deeds and other milestones without even trying.
January 6, 2013 at 5:04 pm
I both deed grind and buy points when on sale. I get the bundles maybe once per year. Then I either play completionist style or create toons for the purpose of low level deeding.
I voted for buying on sale as I’ve gotten maybe 80% of my points that way.

With me was a mix:
- At the start I purchased two points packages on sale.
- When the $100 per year offer appeared, I subscribed to that. I stayed subscribed for two years, and unsubscribed when the festival consumable deeds were introduced.
- My OCD made me replay the starting zones until I had one undying character of each class; given that my internet was flaky and I kept dying to disconnects, I raked quite a bit of points that way. The fact I have 9 characters that I progress in lockstep means that, while I level 9x slower, I get 9x the regular amount of points for each zone, and my OCD means I get all deeds for each zone before progressing.
- I’ve purchased every starter package that seemed worth it, and (for RoI and RoR) the more expensive package with plenty of points. Besides the points this granted me two extra character slots, the 6th bag, removed my gold limit, granted all my current and future characters riding plus mounts and a +25% XP token, added a bunch of quest packs, and a few other minor things.

I get mine a few different ways. I grind deeds, have a lifetime VIP account and a few times a year I will buy some points when they are on sale.
January 7, 2013 at 11:49 am
I almost always get the points from buying cards and redeeming them. I like to pay cash for them so its not an expense on my credit card I have to explain. In my area they got pulled/discontinued a month or so ago and I’ve missed being able to get the cards.
January 7, 2013 at 9:25 pm
VIP Lifetime subscription. They drop into my box monthly and I let them accumulate. I’ve never bought points, and I don’t plan to. My reason for getting the lifetime sub when I bought the game was so I didn’t ever have to pay again to play it (outside of expansions). They’ve had my money and get it for the expacs but not for anything else.
I would actually prefer a choice of reward on deeds. I used to complete a LOT of deeds on-level to get the huge XP boosts they offered. Then they brought in the TP, which for me and many other VIPs are much less useful. It would be nice for there to be some sort of choice on deed completion as to what we want as a reward – lots of xp, or 10 TP (I’ve never seen a deed reward higher than 10, but there may be one somewhere)
January 15, 2013 at 2:50 pm
I too do LOTS of Deed grinding, so trust me on this… Deeds CAN yield as much as 20 TP!

I do online surveys for e-rewards.com and save up my e-rewards points. Once per quarter, I can cash my e-rewards points for a $25 gift card to Game Stop. I used to be able to buy LOTRO Turbine point cards for $25 each at Game Stop, and I bought about 16,000 points this way.
Now I’m told that Game Stop has quit carrying points cards, but they still carry Ultimate Game Cards. Apparently Ultimate Game Card is going to be redeemable for Turbine Points, so I’ll be buying these going forward.
The only actual cash money I’ve spent on LOTRO so far was spending $9.99 to buy a retail copy of LOTRO: Mithril Edition on clearance; I already had all of the included content, but the 2,000 extra points were nice. I figured it would be nice to have a fairly current DVD copy of the game, so I can install it relatively quickly on a new PC or as a backup instead of spending a number of hours downloading the game from online.
LOTRO is a terrific game, and it would be worth spending money on it to play. I’m just glad I don’t have to.
January 9, 2013 at 4:55 pm
I get them via VIP status. I also buy them as well when needed.
January 10, 2013 at 7:50 pm
VIP until July.
January 14, 2013 at 8:23 am
Only brought TPs that I have are from Mithril Edition and RoR DVD edition.
All other TPs I have gotten by playing.
