We have an unannounced sale (at least I don’t see it listed anywhere) in the LOTRO Store and it’s a doozy! 50% off War-steed color packs for horse hide/tail and gear!
I am not sure how long this sale will last but if I find an announcement I’ll be sure to update this post!
Special thank you to @holmrk on twitter for alerting us to this sale!

and just like that… for the first time since the game went free to play, i’ve now officially spent real world money on LotRO again. *sigh*. after picking up RoR during the “determine your discount” sale a little while ago, i just didn’t have quite enough for steed and equipment dye packs that i wanted…
… and boy did i ever want them. i love love love my warsteed, this may be the coolest addition to the game since i started playing five and a half years ago. so $8 isn’t too bad i guess. sure do wish i was an account wide unlock though.

I’m surprise this has gone unannounced, especially since so many people wanted them to be cheaper.

I still don’t think I am going to buy them, even at this price. I honestly think this is just a way for them to get people to buy 1/ character items that should have had an option in game to get. (Like scholars…) Or barring that, should have been account wide, especially at the initial asking price.

Can you really dye the tail? I can only dye the coat, not the mane and tail, but I’m probably missing something.
November 21, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Yes you can dye the mane and tail (they have to be the same color)

To dye the mane and tail, you have to slot the “simple tail” appearance item (I’m pretty sure that was a freebie?) and change the color of that. It uses the same colors you have unlocked for your steed’s hide.

Obnoxiously, you can’t buy them if you haven’t unlocked your war steed.
And here I am sitting on Turbine Points in the five-digit range…

I’m not sure on what the criteria are exactly but thats not strictly true. I bought them via the current sales link, on a level 75 guardian, who had entered the east wall, but had not got his warsteed, or even started the langhold quest line. I was not able to buy on my 74 cappy, which lead me to speculate it may be level gated at 75, are you at or above 75?
November 22, 2012 at 9:40 am
The criteria is level 75. I have a level 74 minnie with her warsteed that cannot access the warsteed items. I had a warden that had her warsteed at 73 with the same problem. The minute she hit 75, she was able to access the warsteed options in the store.

Still a little expensive, however with the double points, i may go for it, seems like a good deal at the moment

doh! missed this sale as I finally broke down and bought some full priced colors last week.
November 22, 2012 at 11:32 am
I would like to see what the colors look like on the war-steed before I purchase them. Is there any sight that shows this?
November 22, 2012 at 11:47 am
You can use the war steed appearance panel to test the colors by hovering over the color you want(it won’t let you set it).

You can preview the colors in game. Also over at warsteeds.com I believe there is a blog post showing all the colors and horse skins.

warsteeds.com has a Cosmetic Items Database:

There are pictures of all the different colors and how they look with the various hides available.
