The Steed of the Captain has a couple issues with it. Most notably the advertisement shows it a nice chestnut brown steed and those who purchase it in game are instead greeted by a blonde sorrel steed.
It was so disappointing that Ketani (who in case you don’t know loves her in-game horse collection) posted in the LOTRO Store Feedback forum about it: Steed of the Captain: Not as Advertised.
Also check out Cithryth’s blog post here showing the differences in Steed of the Captain gear between the standard steed and the war-steed. This was also brought to Turbine’s attention in the same forum thread.
Note that the hide color is not included with the matching war-steed appearance. I put this in my original announcement posts and still had some questions on it. Whether you think it should be or not, Turbine does not intend the class steed hide/tail colors to transfer to the war-steed.
We have a response from QuartemasterU on the forum thread confirming that at least the color is a bug that will be corrected.
Thank you all for bringing this issue to our attention. The skin color of the Travel Mount was expected to be the colour advertised in the marketing shots. Since it’s not that, we’ve bugged the issue, and are currently resolving it. It is expected to be updated come update 9.
We apologize for any confusion.
No mention about the war-steed gear differences at this time.
I wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention as the captain steed is only available until November 29th. If you wish to pick it up knowing a fix is coming for the color, you need to do so before then or wait until it becomes available again.

Steeds of the Rune-keeper, Hunter, Guardian, Champion, all great. Steeds of the Burglar, Lore-master, Minstrel, Captain, all either crap or having problems. Turbine started strong with a great idea and then must have fired everyone in the design department. I’m incredibly disappointed in them.

Very odd “bug” that would recolour the mount.
You’d have thought the screenshots they take come from ingame on some internal test server thing and then copy pasted across. Unless they did and just hadnt copied the final version.
Cosmetically that helmet, other than not being overly captainy, looks as though they did the design for the gear, dumped it into the warsteed file then decided to tweak it to look mildly interesting without then updating.
Orc-on-pole style banner would have suited the class more though.

They need to step out of the mold a little bit. I understand the use purpose of re-using coding, but all of the last few steeds just look WAY too similar. As Luinori said the early steeds are all nicely done. The last offerings are all cookie cutter. I really hope for better for the Warden steed, but I doubt we’ll get anything that would be remotely appropriate.

I like the Steed of the Dusk Watch & was saddened that another name for it was Warden Steed .. being it was a festival giveaway.
I would have paid for that one, as a warden steed.
but I agree .. the steeds are looking like “fine table-settings”
