I got a couple tweets about this new cosmetic item that is for dwarves only. Honestly,I didn’t even look at the LOTRO Store last night. I focused on going and getting my warsteed and then Monday night is Dum Group. I’m going to have to spend some time tonight looking for other new items I wasn’t expecting.
I personally think this is funny although I suspect it’s probably put in there intending to bump up the manliness of dwarves and show off their muscles. Still I find it very amusing although a little pricey ($10 to wear no shirt?).
I wonder if it was only offered to dwarves as there was no way to prevent female characters of the other races from buying a bare-chested option.
What are your thoughts on this?

That’s funny and I can’t wait to see either a screenshot or come across someone in-game with it. My Dorf can’t use it because mine is female.

Amazing, Turbine has managed to create an entirely new game economy in their store: literally paying for NOTHING.
$10 to NOT wear a shirt. Wow.
October 16, 2012 at 10:07 am
While I agree that it’s silly, it’s $10 to look like you’re not wearing a shirt. While still having the stats of the one you’re really wearing.
October 16, 2012 at 10:46 am
I understand that. But $10 for that privilege? Yeesh. This clearly falls into the “more dollars than sense” category of fluff items.
October 16, 2012 at 12:22 pm
Agreed. You’d think it would at least be closer to the cost of other store cosmetics.
October 16, 2012 at 9:45 am
ha! That’s awesome – I won’t buy it, but here’s to hoping I get it in a lotto or something.
October 16, 2012 at 10:11 am
Thats so great! Too bad none of us Riddermarkers have it due to the fact that the store was down server wide last night….
October 16, 2012 at 10:12 am
First I want to say that I am in no way some die hard Tolkien fanatic that nit picks his writings vs the movies, etc.
Now my question. Does no one find this a bit disrespectful of the IP?
Any other game this would get an easy pass. But it’s not just any other game.

It does not show up in the store unless you are a dwarf. My husband wanted it for his insane bucket-wearing champion, so we picked it up – he’s a lifer who never spends points so he still has over 10k with this purchase. Of course I promptly put it in the wardrobe to see what would happen. Answer? Nothing. When you try to use it on any other race, it simply shows the character in an undershirt. Here’s how it looks in game: http://twitter.yfrog.com/z/15631ij

I wonder if they’re sticking to Dwarves for now just because there’s no gender concerns.
October 16, 2012 at 10:26 am
It’s probably dwarf only so that there isn’t the trouble of female characters going around with a shirt
October 16, 2012 at 10:39 am
Combo this with some of the new in-game emote sounds, and you’ve got yourself quite the dwarf Chippendales group…
October 16, 2012 at 10:42 am
Like mentioned above- $10 to take a shirt off??
Has it melded to his skin and needs to be surgically removed?
October 16, 2012 at 12:01 pm
My Dwarven champ MUST have this. I saw a dev in the final Beta party running around with this, (he was the one booping people and shrinking them at the Bree West gate) and I was hoping they’d make it available for the rest of us!
Baruk Khazad!
October 16, 2012 at 12:11 pm
My Dwarves are female. I hadn’t seriously considered exactly what this meant they are hiding under all that armour though … I think it’s one cosmetic best left well alone!
October 16, 2012 at 12:18 pm
One question, will they allow you into shops without a shirt on? (no shoes no shirt no service) – well I guess they let the hobbits in already.
I’m just waiting for the bare-chested with tatoos (dyeable or course) option – say a dragon or a pair of axes across your dwarfs chest.
October 16, 2012 at 12:26 pm
I’m still disappointed that the “Bustier of the Elven Lore-master” featured in the RoI splash screen never dropped. I hunted all over for that thing!
October 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm
I love it. but I agree, $10 for nothing. I wish they just give it away
October 16, 2012 at 1:56 pm
My dwarf is female also. I just don’t wanna take sweet Zolana the dwarf down this road. rofl
Other things aside, I expected more chest hair.
October 16, 2012 at 3:33 pm
This makes me nostalgic for the tasteful understatement of the SWTOR bikinis…
Yet another sign that the current crop of LOTRO devs haven’t even bothered to read Tolkien.

So… to counteract their recent spate of delaying things, turbine decided to bring forward april 1st but forgot to tell the person in charge of the store.
I’ll add this to the pile of things I won’t be buying. No selfrespecting dwarf of mine would be seen dead with a waxed chest.
October 16, 2012 at 10:44 pm
Haha, I love it. If there was a version with lots of chest hair I’d be tempted to buy it.
October 17, 2012 at 8:12 am
Once again, I am appalled at Turbine’s blatant disregard for Tolkien’s world in some respects. Sure, they get the big things right. Rohan is spectacular and lore-sound. But the issues on the small scale are becoming more and more frequent. Dwarves are not the drunken, unwashed Scots of other games – those are Dwarfs. This is totally unforgivable.
October 17, 2012 at 1:27 pm
Scots dont even count either dwarfs or dwarves as part of our mythological history. The roots for that race are far more germanic.
October 18, 2012 at 7:32 pm
Oh for gods sake, get past it people! You act like they are running completely naked now in game. There is nothing wrong with this.
October 17, 2012 at 8:13 am
Man I wish I hadn’t taken my video podcast to a monthly format! I could do a whole show on this cosmetic item alone, but will anyone still care in mid-November? Still, funny stuff right there, Turbine! $10 for the privilege of showing your Dwarf topless? I can do that right now in Rift for free!
October 22, 2012 at 1:54 pm
will you still need me, will you still feed me .. when I am 84 ….
October 17, 2012 at 9:08 am
Well, I guess this partly explains the explicit sounds in beta.
I don’t ever recall ANYONE asking for this kind of trash.
October 17, 2012 at 12:27 pm
I just know there’s going to be a bunch of sweaty shirtless dwarves showing up at Weatherstock next year. Mixed blessing?
October 17, 2012 at 5:19 pm
I say we burn our bra’s and march in the streets of Bree for equality and the right to go bare chested as Hobbits, Man, and Elven kind alike.
Tired of this war on women….
(/sarcasm)
I for one am not too happy about it – last thing I need to see is a few pudgy hairy dwarves running about. UGh
October 17, 2012 at 10:03 pm
Eewww.
Please put your clothes back on. I didn’t need to see that. Lol!
October 18, 2012 at 1:42 am
all i gotta say is .. RAWWWRRRRR… bring it you swarthy dwarf gods!
October 18, 2012 at 5:04 pm
Can it be dyed?
And if so does the dye leave patterns similar to the mystory cloaks from skirmish vendors?
October 19, 2012 at 6:22 am
Tatoo’s…. awesome idea, couple of upper arm axes!
October 31, 2012 at 4:06 pm
This week while the cosmetics are on sale this is 50% off. I went ahead and got it for my Dwarf Champion. Sometimes its fun to put him in furs and play Conan when out in wilderness. In town though? Nah, that’s what cosmetic option 2 is for
November 17, 2012 at 7:02 pm
My eyes! It burns!!!
