This month Turbine is hosting events and giving prizes to player created events to celebrate the them “Olde World Adventure”. Here’s the scoop on the events you could participate in.
Turbine Sponsored Riddle Contest
Details on this is pretty sparse on the announcement page. It is hosted out of game so I’m going to take an educated guess this is referring to more trivia giveaways hosted via LOTRO’s Twitter account.
Periodically there are trivia questions posted with a set time frame to answer. They then select correct answer winner at random for the prize. They give away Turbine Points Codes, Perlino (PAX) Steeds and even Riders of Rohan expansion codes!

To participate you must:
- Have a twitter account (they’re free)
- Follow @LOTRO on twitter (or they can’t message your winnings to you – it’s how twitter works)
- Answer the trivia question within the set timeline.
- Cross your fingers and toes for luck (optional)
They do this at sporadic times during the day so keep checking to play!
Turbine Sponsored Screenshot Contest
LOTRO is hosting a screenshot contest with the theme of Bilbo Baggins. Winners of the screenshot contest will receive 500 Turbine Points. Contestants can enter each of the categories twice. The categories are:
- Make You Late For Dinner! – The theme of this category is to depict an adventrous situation that would make you late for your dinner The winner of this category will receive the title “Fashionably Late 2012” for the forums!
- In Bilbo’s Hairy Footsteps — Follow in the footsteps of Bilbo Baggins! Take a screenshot of your character in an area somehow related to the events of "The Hobbit." Will you choose the Shire? Goblin Town? Gollum’s Cave? The Last Homely House? The winner of this category will receive the title “Hobbit Hopeful 2012” for the forums!
- Thorin & Company – Hobbits shouldn’t get all the fun! After all, it was the will of the Dwarves that created Bilbo’s adventure in the first place! Take a screenshot of your Dwarven character out in the lands of Middle-earth, fighting the good fight. The winner of this category will receive the title “Toss Me! 2012” for the forums!
The contest will go until Friday, September 21, 2012. Six winners will be chosen and announced on LOTRO’s site. For full information on where and how to submit your entries read the full post on the official website.
NPC Look-Alike Contest – from The Starry Mantle and Cosmetic LOTRO
This event is from cosmetic fan blogs The Starry Mantle and Cosmetic Lotro, where they have a Riders of Rohan Legendary Edition and Turbine Points to give away.
All you need to do is dress like an NPC found in game and submit a screenshot of you and your NPC double. (btw if anyone finds a little female hobbit with spikey yellow hair I can mimic let me know!)
The four criteria that we will use to judge your entry are:
- Resemblance to the NPC’s outfit
- Difficulty to match and originality of the presented solution
- Overall impression and aesthetics of the outfit
- Presentation and atmosphere of the screenshot
Entries must be received by midnight (EST) on Friday, September 21, 2012. You may enter more than one screenshot but they must all be sent in separately.

In-Game events are happening from today until September 16th on a variety of servers. These events are organized and conducted by players like yourselves. If your server isn’t represented here, perhaps you can think of an event to help set up for next time!
