Summer Festival is Live!

SummerFestival[1]

Summer festival is once again available in Middle-earth and in this festival it means it’s time to pick up your fishing pole and get ready to bet on dwarf and hobbit races! This festival is open until September 10th according to the LOTRO Calendar.

We are not expecting the festival to be drastically different from last year but we will have a newly updated festival guide up as soon as possible once we run through everything and note any changes.

I suspect that the dwarf and hobbit races will be converted to the new Festival Ticket system that each festival has added recently. It was already sort of like this only allowing so many race tokens to bet with so they seem a good fit for this new quest type and putting race tokens into the LOTRO store.

Since I can already hear the complaints about how we just had a festival, I wanted to remind folks that the Farmer’s Festival was delayed and that is why these are running back to back. They still were scheduled to happen close, just not this close.

In the meantime, you can see last year’s guide to help you navigate until the 2012 guide is available.

Update: The 2012 Summer Festival Guide is now available!

Well, my calendar shows that Summer festival ends in 10th Sep. It is just me? Because I want to obtain some cloacks and haven’t much time to 4th.

I think I like the new festival ticket system. I have 20-30 left from farmer’s faire on each toon, from the egg scramble always being too crowded to bother trying to win it. So I’ll have plenty of opportunities to win the hobbit/dwarf races.

Looks like the Festival is broken on Snowbourne. No token barter NPC and neither keg nor pie race NPCs are there. :(

pie race is in an instanced-off-landscape space. Check out the stable at MD for a festival horse :)

You’ll have to be more specific. All the festival guides are updated minus anything new added with this year’s Summer Fest since I haven’t made the guide for it yet.

We have a furniture guide for ALL furniture items but it needs to be updated. Let us know what it needs and we’ll see who can help us create this. Personally I don’t have time to only do 2 things right now and they are diddly and squat. *busy*

Hooray for more cosmetics AND new furniture items! Now I must find room for new goodies – my shared wardrobe if full!
Hopefully I can complete the Much Eating, Much Running (the Hobbit eating contest) deed this year. It seems only the “little red-haired girl” wanted to win for me last year.

I’m still tired from the last event, going to take a break from this one for a bit till it slows down, then get enough tokens for the new housing stuff and be done with it.

It’s all a bit muddled and bugged at the moment. Keg seems to be down. :-(

The keg-race is indeed bugged right now.

Both the horse at the stablemaster in Thorin’s Gate that lets you enter the keg-race instance and the NPCs/glowy objects in the instance itself will stick around for 2 minutes and then disappear for 6 minutes.

Since I also have not seen a race-master NPC for placing the actual bets for each race, I am guessing him being missing is what is causing the race to crash and reset the instance. That seems to fit the times I have seen if you allow for a 1 minutes warning to place bets when the race-master should offer the bet quests.

Recommend everyone submit bug reports if Turbine is not already aware of this bug so they can start on a fix quickly.

I’m particularly interested to learn if there’s anything special in the ‘consolation prize’ box. (Ie, cosmetics.) I know you can get 1 or 2 Summer tokens currently. I’d just like to know if there are any other potential outcomes.

My honest belief is the tokens are all and it was added because of the poo-storm that would have descended should they cause folks to buy festival tickets in the store and get absolutely nothing for their money as a result.

What’s the most efficient way to earn tokens for this festival?

Most token earning quests are dailies or gated by a random win ticket-gated event.

Is there are hobbit/dwarf who wins most often that can be mostly reliable token earners?

    • Crell of Riddermark, Vanguard Says:

The winners are purely random, but you do get some tokens as a consolation price.

Are you sure about the consolation tokens?

I don’t recall getting any if your hobbit loses.

It seems to be new this year – I just got one when my Hobbit lost, but you have to know to open the box. I didn’t get any sort of prompt to use it at the end of the race.

I just noticed the Consolation Present on the table (after you mentioned a box – thanks).

I don’t normally have text on above objects, so I didn’t realize that was something we could interact with.

Happy I have such a big stash of Ale.Assoc. tokens to trade in for, as even the Shire “finding stuff” quest bugged out for me. :/

Already got me my last two Eriador maps and pondering on raiding my stash for those nice cosmetics and the 200HP steed.

Oh and if somebody would be so nice and do a youtube-upload of that Dwarf housing music(from the fish token barterer in Thorin´s Hall)? Super thanks! :)

With the probable loss of the double-win-every-round bug from the old racing games, the best bang for buck now is doing the Ale Association and Inn League deliveries together.

The daily fetch quests and the fishing have a VERY low return on time investment, and the races are too random to accurately measure, but a top of the head calculation says that it’ll come in below the deliveries.

I think the races were already on the ticket system. What they seem to have done with them is move them from where they were – at least the Hobbit one has moved. The Hobbit race area is very pretty, but I personally prefer the way it was before. It seemed much more of a spontaneous ‘country’ type thing. The new area has a definite ‘this was designed for THIS event’ vibe.

Been very frustrating for me so far. On Landroval, every fishing quest I picked up, I lagged out within a minute or two because it was so crowded, so I lost the whole quest for the day because the timer breaks when you lose connection. So I tried to do a bunch of quests but none of them worked and I had to go into Moria to get away from the lag. Guess maybe in a few days I’ll try again and maybe it will be playable.

    • FoxFire Says:

Don’t bother with those fishing quests. They are a colossal waste of time.

I did the 20 min fishing derby over by Bree, and of 40 fish I caught I pulled up 7 Drums and 2 Golden Redfish.

      4 drums = 1 token
      1 redfish = 2 tokens

So basically 5 tokens for 20 minutes of boring frustration.

How Turbine thinks pulling up 31 worthless Goldfish and Weeds interspersed with the occasional useful fish is supposed to be fun is beyond me, because THAT is the absolute opposite of anything remotely fun.

Whoever designed this quest (or at least determined what the success rate & reward should be) needs to be flogged.
