Presentation with Aaron Campbell from GamesCom

August 20, 2012

Events, LOTRO News, Videos

This is a fan recording from the LOTRO kinship The Rangers sharing a presentation and Q&A session with Turbine’s Senior Producer, Aaron Campbell from GamesCom.

There was some great nuggets of information from the presentation and even more so from the Q&A from the fans afterwards that make this a must see!

Some highlights I picked up:

  • We will get to play some of the epic story as Frodo and Boromir
  • Since Theoden has decreed not to fight the orcs, different villages we encounter on the landscape will handle orc invasions in different ways.
  • Discussion on how Burglars will work in mounted combat
  • Discussion on how Wardens will work in mounted combat
  • Questions on Crafting, Fellowship Maneuvers, Instances and more!

Thank you to The Rangers for sharing this video! You can find out more about this Laurelin kinship at http://www.the-rangers.net.

.. and most of it hardly understandable.

Stuff like this should be provided by Turbine recorded with proper dam and a direct microphone feed not some rinky-dink smart-phone in a crowd.

Props to The Rangers for valiantly trying to do Turbine´s job.

I utterly failed to make out the crafting section. Anyone else able to provide the question and answer for that portion?

The question was if they will be able to craft items for the warsteed.

Aaron had two responses to the question:
      1) You will be able to craft the new LI item the bridle for your warsteed
      2) He is unsure if you will be able to craft new appearances for the warsteed as they are not equipment, they are traits you earn.

I had to listen to it with headphones in order to really understand but I have to say even this much information from GamesCom was appreciated. It’s great when we have answers to questions from players.

before my buffering stopped due to bad internet (only bits I care about :P ):
Burglar: debuffing, riddling, addling their opponents (not sure if in sense of the skill or word)
everyone will have 3 stances, Burglar’s are DPS, Debuff/Support and Defensive

    Warden:
He’s seen the warden’s skills but doesn’t know if there’s any stun, may have dismount
only Simple gambits – 2 length

Q&A starts at 4:00, I cut out at 7:00 (wearing headphones help a lot!)

also: all the villages deal with orcs differently, they all have different achitecture

session play (from a RP/immersion perspective) is just reading a book

Riding over Rohan, friends are better, warbands need groups

all I was able to pick up

So 3 stances (traitlines) and 3 horse types?

This has a slightly scary potential if there are bridles that cover one ot other of the two. Even more if there are bridles for each stance and horse combo. Basic maths dictates not enough LI slots for those plus our regular LI’s going by current number we have.

In theory being spear and shield users wardens should be best suited to the mounted combat charge and skewer things.

Tried listening but stopped before trying to hear if burgs did indeed get a neck stab attack.
