Lore-Master Steed Now Available

August 2, 2012

LOTRO Store

loremaster_large

Available in the LOTRO Store until August 16, 2012 is the newest class themed mount the Lore-master Steed.

Lore-masters are seekers and practitioners of ancient lore and knowledge. Their steeds must be arrayed such that they can bear numerous scrolls, parchments, and writing implements. This mount is blanketed in a deep blue embroidered with silver stars to reflect the night sky, the realm of Elbereth Gilthoniel, revered of the Elves who are the greatest of lore-masters.

Store Location: Travel & Housing → Mounts → Store Exclusive
Levels: 5+
1995

Like other class mounts, this is a 68% speed with 250 morale. I have not seen any confirmation yet but given that it is a class steed, I am assuming that the cosmetic pieces of this steed will also be available for your warsteed after Rohan’s launch.

The purchase is per character so make sure you are buying it for the character you wish to ride this steed (you know like your Lore-master perhaps).

If it is just the stats you are looking for there are in-game alternatives such as the Elf Ambassador and World Renown horses for example have equal stats but a different look, of course. If it’s the look of the horse you are enamored with, this is your only option.

    First impression: YUCK!

My main is a LM, and I was anticipating this being my first – and possibly only – store mount purchase. But it is just too feminine (although the blue does match my cosmetic).

They started out with really nice looking class mounts. The last 2-3 mounts have been awful, and seem to be just cobbled together with little thought.

Guess I’m going to keep my streak ok not buying mounts in the store. I’ll press my luck in the lotto.

I don’t dislike it exactly, but you’re right, it does seem very feminine. Also, what’s with the horn? Did they mean to put that on the champ steed and get confused? The wing design seems a bit weird to me, too. The tassels over the horse’s eyes are what did me in, though. I imagine that would really get on a horse’s nerves to have those dangling in front of them all the time.

At this rate, I’m a little worried as to what we’re going to end up with for the Captain steed.

Ya, Turbine just loves these odd looking horses. In real life you’d never see someone putting a blanket over a horse’s main, except in winter. Look at the rest of the outfit and it almost looks like it’s wearing a vest, sort of like some crazy cat person who knits clothes for a cat… There’s just too much going on with this horse, better to have the simpler ones.

(my LM is currently using Ashen Steed)

I am on the fence with this one. I really like the scrolls and the books; I think they’re a nice touch. But at the same time the colors don’t really go along with the theme of my character. My Lore-master has a more “animal” theme about him. And it’s also a “darker” theme as well. I think I’ll stick with my Steam Horse for now and consider the Green Painted Skeleton Horse next time it’s on sale as it fits my theme much better.

It doesn’t fit with the theme of my LM as well. My LM is very feminine and would rather have more pink then blue. *nods*

I think it is modeled after Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She is a blue pony that loves to read.

But I’m not sure she would like the frilly tassels lol

        Anyways, I love the huge stack of books in the back, too, but the blue cloth just seems weird. It looks like the horse is wearing a top with a hood?? At first glace it actually reminded me of Chun Li from Street Fighter ;;

My LM is from Rohan so her steeds are all the Rohirrum ones gained from either expansions or rep with Stangard. I was looking forward to the LM horse. Alas, not any more. What a disappointment.

erm, my first thought was why they put a sheet and mama’s curtains on that poor horse… then I thought Ill withhold judgement till I see it in game. Sometimes the promo pics dont do justice…. or at least I hope this is the case.

I’ve really been looking forward to the Steed of the LM for my main but now…the horse really looks like he’s wearing a shirt. Not so excited now.

Eye tassels for horses are actually practical- they help keep flies out of the horses eyes. http://www.tackwholesale.com/images/Fly_Fringe_Horse.jpg

The rest of the tack though… it really does look like the horse got stuffed in a doggie jumper.

Oh man–this is the very horse I have been waiting for and it is truly, truly awful. Trying to capture the theme of a class is fine, but this is definitely not the horse that a lore-master is taking with him into the wild when he is looking for relics of old. Might be the horse a lore-master would ride in a parade, but not ever through brush and brambles and into dark places to recover lost knowledge. I call for a redo…

I’ve been waiting for this as the only store steed I would actually purchase. But that blue vest thing is a definite no. Just… no.

Too bad you can’t just buy the back end!

If this becomes a war-steed set then you possibly could and it would probably allow you to change the color.

PS. I think the best feature of the horse picture is the rainbow in the background.

That’s pretty! I want it – I shall have to haunt the lotteries because I’m not paying stupidly-high TP for it though :p

  17. Cosmetic Lotro Says:

The good thing about the store horses is: they transfer over as cosmetics for your warhorse and those cosmetics can be dyed and customized! This means that if the colours don’t suite your character, or you would rather have a horse with a dark skin colour, you can change this on your warhorse!
I’m getting this horse for my LM knowing that I will be able to adapt its appearance in Rohan!

I wonder if the cosmetics are only for one character or will it be able to share it between alts? Because it sounds like it could get expensive if you want certain cosmetics on several alts. >.<

Based on all of the information we have now I would probably assume that it only works on the character with the horse.

I gave up on these when the Burglar steed came out. They dropped the ball every way they could on that one. At the very least I wish it had been a black horse, nothing special with most of the newer horses now. Mithril was a let down, and so have most of the festival steeds been.

The in game steeds seem to still rule my tastes. :-)

Maybe once they’re all eventually out we can have a poll on what class mount looks best.

To my mind the nicest so far has been the hunter steed and they’ve been going slowly downhill in looks since then. Could it be the artists were drafted into RoR and had to come up with these in their spare time.

Not looking great for the remaining steeds which is a shame, as those are the classes I play most.

I completely agree – the hunter steed made my fingers hover over the Buy button for a long time. I didn’t click it, but I sure thought about it.

My hunter got one partly as it was my main at the time and mostly was a combination of a late night and a few beers, well more than a few.

Nicest horse since then is probably the duskwardens steed from the anniversary.

I agree, for me the Hunters steed has been the best looking one. I have not purchased it and probably wont but I enjoy looking at them in game. My main is a guardian and I was very disappointed in that steed, so dark and dreary. Does anyone know if the loremasters steed is a lazy mirror image on the other side or if they bothered to draw each side different?
