CSTM Third Anniversary Celebration

August 3, 2012

Events

It is once again August and to us here at CSTM, that means our little blog and podcast, A Casual Stroll to Mordor, is turning three-years old!

It’s hard to come to the realization that we’ve been doing this for three years now. Time has seemed to fly by and it probably helps that we’ve been doing it all while playing our favorite online game.

We started this whole thing thinking it’d be fun to record and share our long discussions of LOTRO we were having anyway, fully expecting no one to listen. The blog was just going to be a little companion to help me share pictures and things I found useful. Both these have expanded past our initial realization and we are pretty darn proud with what we’ve built here.

The official first post on Casual Stroll to Mordor was on August 11, 2009. We recorded our first podcast the last weekend in August and it wasn’t posted until September 2, 2009 (mostly because we didn’t know what we were doing). August is our time to reflect and celebrate what got us this far!

Our List of Thank Yous

We wanted to send out a very special thank you to our writers. I cannot express what a complete joy it is to read their thoughts, ideas and other sparks of brilliance. All of them with unique perspectives but sharing the single love of The Lord of the Rings Online. Thank you so much for your hard work, dedication and support you’ve given Merric and I. We really would be not half the site without you!

Thank you to Middle-earth Network for taking us and our silly little blog under it’s wing and being so gracious to us giving us a home and even some wonderful giveaways to our reader/listeners! They are an amazing, creative and enthusiastic bunch of crazies which is why we are getting along so famously!

CSTM has posted 2,750+ posts and has received over 41,000+ comments throughout the years and we also want to thank our fans! From your brilliant Outside LOTRO finds, emails into the show, to excellent comments and poll suggestions; it is the community that what makes all the effort of running CSTM a labor of love. You guys are all amazing and we would have quit long ago if we didn’t have this awesome community urging us to do more and more.

Baby Hobbit Growth

It’s not just CSTM that continues to grow, our own Baby Hobbit, who was just four months old when we started CSTM is now three-years old! Here’s a couple pictures to show how much she’s grown since last year!

Baby Hobbit 2012

You can follow Baby Hobbit on twitter at @theBabyHobbit and you can listen to her very own podcast The Baby Hobbit Cast. Both are rarely LOTRO related and really more just an excuse to share more Baby Hobbit with her fans.

Merric Shrinking

While Baby Hobbit is getting bigger every day, Merric has been experiencing the opposite and shrinking before everyone’s eyes! He has to date lost over 80lbs!!

Before_and_After

He has been sharing his weight loss journey on his solo podcast “Shake it Off Cast”. It’s pretty inspirational and I encourage you to check it out if you are working to improve your health like Merric is.

Giving Back to our Fans!

We absolutely adore our CSTM listeners and readers. We honestly would not have kept up any of this if it weren’t for you encouraging us, sharing with us and interacting with us.

As a result, starting next week we’ll start having some giveaways open to all fans in any country that we’ve picked up as thank yous for being here for us. Keep your eyes peeled to the blog so you don’t miss out on entering!

Congrats on growing Little Hobbit. She seems to soon get a new nickname – Miss Hobbit, as she’s looking prettier with every photo :D

Big high-five to Merric as well. I’m sure his shrinking gives hope to a lot of other people, not only LOTRO fans :)

Thank you all very kindly for your compliments and encouragement. Especially to my wife, Goldenstar, who is the foundation of CSTM.

Of our total posts almost 50% are by Goldenstar. She is our editor, our project manager, and our news hound. She is always pushing all of us to do better and encouraging us every stop of the way. Without her there is no CSTM.

Congratulations you guys! I’ve been listening for about 2 of the 3 years and the show gets better all the time, you always make me laugh. Merric, you look great! Keep up the good work, it will pay dividends in the years to come. I’ve lost over 100 lbs myself over the past 5 yrs. And, last but not least, Baby Hobbit is getting cuter by the day. The episode where she filled in for Merric still brings a smile to my face when you did the itsy bitsy spider song at the end. Ketani and Elb wedding proposal was way awesome too.

I suspect the time it takes for you all to create such a wonderful pod cast/web site and still hold down jobs and be a family too is tremendous! Organization must a mantra around your house.
The research you all do, along with the other contributors, saves me a lot of time trying to figure out game aspects when I would rather spend playing the game.
Your podcasts also give me a sense of relief realizing that I am not the only one who does not understand everything about the game!
Please keep up the great work and please add/redo your round tables for each of the classes (especially the guardian which I tend to prefer to play).

    CONGRATULATIONS!

i’ve been here since the beginning. I was listening to a couple of LotRO podcasts at the time, and they were a little… we’ll say… “inconsistent” and sometimes just plain obnoxious. So i was always on the lookout to try more and running weekly searches to find a better LotRO podcast, when i found yours, i was hooked from the first episode.

…and you’ve never disappointed me. This podcast has been a consistently invaluable source of information and just good nerdy discussion about something i enjoy. And the husband & wife dynamic appeals to me as well, since playing LotRO is something that my wife and i enjoy doing together as well and it’s fantastic to hear two people share the experiance and their enjoyment as much as we do.

so cheers! and thank YOU for three years of awesome!

Hugs and congratulations to you for the best LOTRO resource out there. I never miss visiting at least a few times a day! The podcasts are wonderful and the wealth of information in the posts is invaluable. The real strength, however, lies in the atmosphere of fun, friendship, and community that you provide for us. Most of us are separated by physical distance, but we can all come together in the game AND here to share our thoughts, ideas, news, hopes, and achievements.

Without the awesome pair of Goldenstar and Merric (or is it Merric and Goldenstar?), I fear we would all despair in +10 Dread and fall to the power of Sauron’s gaze. We thank you for all your work and effort into maintaining this excellent cache of LOTRO knowledge.

Seriously though, I am so happy that you guys have made it so far! I came to the game in March of 2010 and one of the first things I did was search and search for a site with information – and found CSTM! I visit the site multiple times each day!
