Sapience has posted in the forums that the Engineers over at Turbine are “taking another in depth look at server performance issues” and that they’re looking for player feedback. The team is looking for the following information:
- Date and time (Please use the server time command).
- What you were doing?
- Where you were (Server name and please use the loc command)?
- Describe your Experience of the lag (everything stopped around you, only you stopped, shared experience with others etc.)
Sapience does caution that players should only provide the requested information and that players avoid posting “opinions, commentary, or any posts other than exactly what has been asked for.” All posts should go be replied to in the official thread. Also note that if you do post something other than what was requested it is possible that the post may be deleted.
As much as I complain about the lag I experienced in Galtrev, I am very appreciative that Turbine is proactively looking to relieve any lag issues that they can find. I really think that this is a good move on Turbine’s part and I will be sure to take advantage of the thread while it is open.

so basically i couldn’t just say I lag everytime an area’s name pops up on the screen?
Because, really, aside from the pop ups from quests that require getting x out of y from mobs, that’s the only other time i lag.

They already had this official thread once, and then they un-stickied it after an update even though players made it clear that the issues hadn’t been fixed.

I’ve mostly noticed it where it seems like it’d be hard to address — places like Galtrev where tons of people sit in one area… Particularly in the center by the LI NPCs.
In general, the other places I experience it make little sense. Often it seems to be when the game is trying to load something that’s not part of the typical experience — like right before a warning comes up, or right before the item list of a looted corpse pops up.
I put LOTRO on a SSD and it saved me a lot of problems with that stuff… And it makes me wonder how much of it is access related as opposed to actual connection issues.

An SSD makes a huge difference. However, it does little for that most notorious lag spot of all: the Moors. It’s not uncommon for the game to turn into a slideshow or to see 4 skills spinning in place.

I have an SSD too, which made great improvements when I first installed it.
However, I too have been effected by the recent lag, so it appears not to be a hardware access issue.
Before, when I entered an area with many NPCs or players, the SSD would load textures in a flash. Now it can take 60 seconds or more before everything loads in and the frame stuttering halts to smooth movement.
In Rivendel, for example, I can’t ride my horse for that time, without ending up in the water.

Lagtrev rules!!!

my map always lags (first time per zone, per log in), but that’s to be expected (also social panel every log in)
someone was thinking that the horse session players running around were causing him lag. he said he lagged whenever one went past and “when I followed one it almost crashed again”
maybe this is it?

NOW is when they are dealing with it? NOW? I’ve had friend QUIT over the fact that since ROI they can’t play in the game without crashing to desktop or blue screening. I’ve brought this to their attention and the first thing they tell me is that “we use Windows 7 in our office all the time.. what soundcard are you using?”
Hell I’ve had a solid month of not being able to MOVE once I logged in that forced TWO reinstalls.. and those reinstalls were forced because the damn game bluescreens EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO TO GALTREV.. That is a Windows 7 problem that they insist doesn’t exist even though every single person that quit because of it not only doesn’t own the same type of computer but lives in different states and different service providers with completely different gaming rigs. /facepalm
I’ve come to the conclusion that unless they fix this memory leak that has gotten worse since ROI I’m quitting when Rohan comes out because it’s only going to get worse. I’m tired of formatting my drive and restarting because of ONE application.. and that’s LOTRO on Windows 7.

I run it on Windows 7 and never have an issue. Are you on 32 or 64?
July 18, 2012 at 7:09 pm
I, too, run LotRO on Win7. Never an issue.

I’m still puzzled by these reports of lag, in my almost 5 years of playing, the only lag I get on a regular basis is the one caused by my computer or my own internet connection.
I had some problems on my old computer with WinXP where it shut down whenever I tried to enter a door, but since I got my new one with Win7, I only have problems when there’s too many people around, then I have to lower my gfx settings. I’m even able to play at medium in EM, had to run on low on my old one..
And my new computer is not a big gaming rig..

Its important to separate two different issues.
People are referring to lag increasingly when talking about any kind of latency which doesn’t help, ie framerate issues as well
What Turbine wants to know is latency over a network.
Not when your game starts to hitch, slow, drop frames due to the loading of textures etc. These are client side issues (for the most part)
Normally these two issues are separate but ive seen circumstances in other games where network latency impacts framerate directly as well.
In the moors you are always going to experience a fair bit of both. That always has done so isn’t even worth mentioning.

Wow, what a slap in the face…Turbines been lying to us saying its on our end for how long now??? Time for a new CM over there, Im sick of all the lies being spouted about by their CMs. Naturally if you dont post in lockstep praising Turbines goodness they slap you with infractions. I’ve posted many times about the lag and have received several infractions for it. Now that they admit its their end can we get those infractions removed??

Exactly what Steve said… and it’s been at very least 6 months.

Latency wise mine has been higher since the move from codies over to turbine, which is to be expected although there are times when it seems to rocket for no apparent reason. If it happens first thing I do is to double check that steam isnt getting a sneaky update done..
Then there are times when the latency is apparently fine and yet I am told I’m not close enough or not facing the thing I’m trying to melee despite the visual cues telling me that I shouldnt have any issues.
Lagtrev and other areas like the 21st hall in moria that have a lot of npc’s close together causes the game to start stuttering. And of course every time I open the map, craft tab, deed or quest logs the game has to pause for breath.
One thing I’ve noticed doing the horse based session play is when you’ve got the turbo engaged things often don’t appear on screen until you’re almost past them. Hopefully that wont be as bad in the mounted combat areas when it’ll be more of a life or death situation.

I was in RoF last night and we had sever lag every 5 mins. It was not just me. We would all be frozen but can still talk to each other. We had to disband because of it.
The link is gone from this artical. Are we posting to much and they closed the forum already?
