Not to be outdone by Steam, GameStop is having a sale on the boxed version of The Lord of the Rings Online: Mithril Edition for $9.99; down from $19.99. That is a discount of 50%! (Technically it’s about 49.97%, but we’ll call it 50% to be safe.)
This is the lowest we have seen the Mithril edition go down in price, so if you’ve hesitated before you might want to reconsider. Unfortunately the Digital Edition is still missing from the website so you’ll have to order the boxed edition if you’re interested. I’m also unsure of how this might affect those outside of the United States, so if you those of you outside of the U.S. can provide any information about the sale and how it affects you I would appreciate it. I will update the article afterwards appropriately.
Update: Several commenters have stated that while they can order the product from outside the United States, the shipping fees are quite high and therefore negate the value of the sale. Sorry all!
Just to rehash, the Mithril Edition comes with quite a bit of features, including:
- Exclusive Steed of the Horse-lord mount
- 2000 Turbine Points
- Path of the Fellowship Quest Pack (Trollshaws, Eregion, Moria & Lothlorien)
I have to say that the price on this is really good for the Turbine Points alone. Plus you’ll also get an account wide horse for all your characters as well. Note that if you purchased this already, you cannot apply a second code to your account and get the bonus Turbine Points.
Head to GameStop today and check out the sale!
Thank you to Draculetta for informing us about the sale.

Well I don’t know if I’m supposed to get a code by e-mail, but since it is a boxed edition I have to pay 30 dollars just so they can send it… meaning I have to pay 40 dollars in total (and I’m from Mexico…)
So it’s better for me to just buy tp xD
If it were a digital download, then it would be worth it. But since it is not, I must pay the same price as a RoR expansion to get it. Not worth it.

Ouch, thanks Daniel

I wanted to buy it to have a boxed edition, but the shipping fee to France is $24.99, so i’ll pass ^^;;
July 13, 2012 at 1:56 am
Always wanted the boxed edition, if only for the Moria booklet that comes with it. Any idea if they ship to mainland Europe ?
July 13, 2012 at 1:57 am
never mind, seems they do… unfortunately shipping cost is quite expensive.

Is there still the glitch, that convergt your Premiumaccount into a VIP-account for a few hours?
July 13, 2012 at 9:02 am
I honestly don’t know. I would suggest contacting support.
July 13, 2012 at 4:59 pm
Yes, I am VIP again. I don’t know how long it will last. I installed the code over lunch and in about 10 minutes had 2 more char slots, rest XP and, lucky for me, completed a master guild rep for a craft guild I hadn’t completed before dropping to premium. The TP alone is worth the cost. The only downside is, if VIP doesn’t go away soon, I won’t be able to take advantage of the 50% off sale on quest packs.
July 15, 2012 at 2:38 pm
And… I’m still VIP after more than 48 hours. No idea why. I definitely didn’t pay for a subscription upgrade/renewal. I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Time to make a couple more chars while I can unlock everything (bags, trait slots, gold, swift travel), just in case…

if the shipping is so expensive to your country look for offers at shops or websites in your country, they should be more expensive but the shipping will obviously be a lot less expensive. i bought mine of amazon here for 20€ and its worth it. the mithril edition is a very good buy imho, especially for that price. but even for the “old” one its really good.

Damn you Americans that’s a good deal
We do have GameStop most places in Europe as well, but don’t seem to have the deal.
I sent an e-mail to both GameStop US and the danish one to see if it was possible to get a code/digital version or if the box was coming on sale in Denmark as well.
July 13, 2012 at 4:07 am
And I thought I missed out when I missed out on the two previous sales. HA!
July 13, 2012 at 4:11 am
The discount is not available at Gamestops in Europe. It’s still 29.99 € (= 36,59 $) here. If it would be available for 9,99 $ here that would be just 8,20 € … hopefully that’s gonna happen soon.
July 13, 2012 at 4:36 am
jan, i called my gamestop and they say: mithril edition is flagged with a “d”, so its sold out and come not back…
July 13, 2012 at 6:03 am
You can find digital download version here. http://www.impulsedriven.com/lotro
It is $19.99 so currently the discount is for box only. but still cheaper than shipping cost.
July 13, 2012 at 7:14 am

I’d buy it, if it wasn’t for that stupidly expensive shipping.
July 13, 2012 at 8:30 am
dang, i was set to buy this again just for the points but read that last bit that it wont work. I might get this for one of my other accounts tho… it is a great deal plus I want the box. Last time I just had the digital version.
July 13, 2012 at 9:52 am
Shoot I may have to try and find this
July 13, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Great price, but I already bought the only copy at my Gamestop last month for $20. Love having the discs for easy reinstalling.
July 13, 2012 at 2:21 pm
Just picked up four copies – two online and two in store.
July 13, 2012 at 3:59 pm
Is this horse also +68 or just +62?
July 13, 2012 at 4:14 pm
Its a 62%
July 13, 2012 at 4:21 pm
Mithril is only 62%. The 68% is with the Steam starter package.
July 13, 2012 at 5:05 pm
62%, 100 HP. Basically a festival horse. Looks nice in the collection but won’t see much action outside of town.

July 13, 2012 at 4:11 pm
Is there a way to check if I have the path of the fellowship quests?
I am vip so nothing shows up in store
July 13, 2012 at 4:20 pm
It’s difficult since you could have purchased it several different ways through expansions (like Isengard) to bundles in the store to box copies like the Mithril Edition.
You can check your recent purchases in the LOTRO Store to see if you’ve bought anything that would have included it. Other than just remembering if you purchased something like Isengard that included the Path I don’t know if there’s a way for you to just go and look at what you own.
July 13, 2012 at 5:59 pm
My wife is soooo mad we bought this at $19.99 a few days before this sale… However this does make my “collection” of accounts complete this went to one of my F2P account into a premium account!! Yea!!
July 15, 2012 at 12:54 pm
If you live out of the U.S., I recommend having it shipped to a trustworthy American friend and having him/her read you the code, if you don’t care about having the pretty box.
July 15, 2012 at 4:18 pm
Thanks for posting this one!! Picked it up today
July 16, 2012 at 3:54 am
Discount applied to their download site also. So now oversea customers can benefit from the deal without shipping and handling costs. Check this link

TYVM dodos!
I could get it for a few cents less than 10 €!
July 20, 2012 at 2:40 pm
It appears the digital version from the Gamestop digi download store is back up to $19.99. I managed to grab one while it was $9.99, hope others did as well. $20 still isn’t too bad of a deal for someone new to LOTRO that needs the Path of the Fellowship QPs.
