Following the lead from Massively and Ten Ton Hammer, Gamefront has released an article today covering their hands-on experience with the Mounted Combat system. Although a lot of the information has already been covered there are still some nuggets of information that we can garner from their interview with Turbine. Some of the interesting points are:
- Everyone will get access to the medium war steed. In order to access the light and heavy war steeds, you’ll need to purchase the expansion.
- Over half the quests in the Riders of Rohan expansion are mounted quests
The article concludes stating that there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the direction Mounted Combat will take as the game progresses.
Will there be mounted combat instances? Will we be able to spar other players on our War Steeds? Will the remote quest granting that mounted combat has inspired be more widely implemented? Turbine says these questions will be answered in the future,
And although Turbine states that many of these questions will be answered in the future, all we can do is wait and see.

Over half of the content is mounted quests?
Well, at least it feels different from traditional ones. Despite being “Rohan” and all that, I’m still surprised at the heavy emphasis they put on equestrian adventure.
It’s still to early to panic, or even speculate, really. Can’t wait to see what all the hype is about in September.

I have to say I’m a bit wary about it as well. That’s a lot of content that’s banking on mounted combat.

Well while watching the live stream the other day, he said there were plenty of non-horse quests to please people on foot, so I wouldn’t be too worried, I’m not fussed either way, I would like to ask them if future expansions will have mounted combat built into them

It could be the case that there will be just enough quest content to get to max level by playing purely on foot or on horseback.
Having quests where you could complete by doing either would be interesting, taking out a warband leader by either skirting around behind and sneak attacking or mounting up and ploughing through. Potential is there.
