Episode 149: Mind Stabbed

July 1, 2012

Episodes from 2012, Podcast

ScreenShot00181This week we talk about Riders of Rohan stuff like music, concept art and discussions of the beta.

This week during Dum Time, Goldenstar’s burglar joined the Dums in Skumfil staring at butts (see picture) and finishing the Minstrel class quest for Dumidum. In other news, Goldenstar is working on deeds. What?? No. It’s true. The world must be ending or something.

Merric did play this week. Wooooo. However he didn’t get his character to Dolven View like he predicted. Instead he played his Captain in Eregion and then did a couple 6-man skirmishes with his guardian.

Any idea when we’ll get the Summer Festival? My new character on Landroval needs to decorate his new home!

Thanks,

I have a lvl 65 Captain on Landroval. Overall I love the server and the community but have a hard time finding a truly family-friendly kin. I recently quit a kin because the standard conversation became so vulgar I couldn’t tolerate it anymore. The kin had claimed to be family-friendly, but I think by “family-friendly” they meant having their drunk cousins talk about pornography all evening.

I was hoping you might be able to recommend a kin.

Thank you for the show and all your hard work.

Sincerely,

Snowpine

Dear Goldenstar & Merric

I am returning back to Lotro for my gaming time (VIP Lifetime subscription) after detouring for Rift (Dec-2010) and SW-TOR (Dec-2011). Since joining Lotro in Sep 2007 I have played on Gladden server, mainly with “Old Timers Guild” (Kinship), and have countless hours on a lvl 75 Rune-keeper main along with lvl 65 LM, Min, Capt, Guard. (The Hunter, Champ, Burg and Warden never made it much past 40).

I’m looking for a fresh start, and I have created a new Captain on Landroval. YAY! Am I crazy or just insane?

He’s only a couple of days old, meeting hands and shaking babies around the Breeland area. I’ve already spent time in front of the Prancing Pony hangning out with the RP folk. I will be re-playing the Epic quest line, while doing on-level quests & skirmishes to keep up. I’m hoping to have something worthwhile (lvl 75?) by the time Riders of Rohan launches, but we’ll see if that happens. I know that there have been changes in the Legendary Item system that I need to brush up on.

Looking forward to the RP/RE server experience. I have over 5000 Turbine Points (TP) and will wait for post-launch to pick up RoR in the store. From all of your previous shows, it just doesn’t seem that as a VIP that any of the pre-orders for dollars makes sense. Please confirm if you think the same, or if I am missing something here.

Things that I know that I will miss in this move from Gladden to Landroval:

My gold: leaving behind 650 gold on Gladden. (So if you ever need a loan over there..)My kin: I'll be sticking to this Capt and hope to find a new home with this support class toon.

So apparently I have about 69 days before RoR launches!! Sweet Sassy Malassy!!

I’m going to try to get into the chat room during your podcasts.

Also enjoy listening to ShakeItOffCast from Merric, as we work to lose weight together. Very inspirational!!

See you in game

I think this is something you should check out. It’s a very bad thing to have happened.

I enjoyed the article about the mod: Third Age Total War. That was a fun game :) Maybe you should take a look at The Last Days of The Third Age mod to Mount & Blade. I have not tried it yet but have enjoyed the Warband expansion

For info

Also the Helm’s Deep mod for LFD2 is very entertaining :)

With regards to the MMOTroll issue, I should point out that while you guys can be critical of Turbine on occasion, every time you do so it is reasonable and balanced in delivery. With this person on the other hand, it somewhat recently went from being the same vein as this podcast to hatred and bile directed at anything Turbine does.

Now, assuming this attitude did indeed not extend to the LOTRO forums, I agree he should be allowed the ability to post. Again, assuming. I’m just saying that as you did point out, we are only hearing one side of this story, and one that has recently shown itself to have a sort of personal vendetta against the company. The story should be taken with a pinch(or bowl) of salt.

All that sad stuff aside, enjoyed the podcast guys. Looking forward to next week.

Thanks Ethelros. And yes, while I haven’t listened to him in a while I did listen to the last couple and I agree that there is some definitely disdain when it comes to Turbine. However, I also agree with you that as long as that didn’t go into the forums then I don’t agree with what Turbine placing him on moderation.

Well, I’m that guy in question, and I just happened to stumble across my article being mentioned on CSTM (thanks, Merric and Goldenstar, by the way). First, I will say that yes – I am not Turbine’s biggest supporter in the world anymore. I used to be, but not with events over the last year. But my poor opinion of Turbine has been restricted to sites outside of the official forums, such as my own website, as I don’t think it is wise or just to trash a company on their own website. Complain in a constructive manner, yes, but I wouldn’t be outright rude to them on their forums. Turbine is censoring my forum access because of what I have said on my site and video podcast, pure and simple. It’s their forum, though, they can do what they like. I would simply suggest that if people want to retain unfettered forum access on the LOTRO forums, don’t criticize them in venues they can’t control.

Feel free to look up my forum history, if you like, I posted as BellusDufenna.

My account has been put on moderated status. I cannot rep posts. I cannot have a signature. Everyone of my posts has to be approved by a moderator. I was reprimanded for posting negatively about the RoR release information previous to Turbine folding and including TP and IC with the preorders. Mentioning that I was going to play GW2 also seemed to hit a sensitive topic with Celestrata and Sapience.

I’m pretty disappointed by the moderators and community managers for Turbine. I have heard of many others getting bans for nothing more than being upset with Turbine (RoR) and talking about leaving the game. I used to be a decent contributor to the forums (over 2k posts and 2k rep) but with the way they are handling the forums I’ve basically stopped going besides to sign up for lottos.

Arg! What? No Digital Mithril Edition?
As an Australian who was just about to buy the Mithril Edition and get the Digital edition to save on the no shipping costs.
It’s annoying to be honest. But hey I might just get the Physical edition anywua just to get the nice looking box and discs…
And I’ll just have to wear the shipping costs.

The Physical Mithril edition is a great buy just for the included high-res client DVDs alone.
No more Pando for evar! ;)

I have been a long time listener of your podcast and was sad to see this week you allowed Bellus, aka MMOTROLL, to use your name and pod cast as a platform in his campaign to spew hate on anything Turbine does. I have read MMORPG for years and he has been an active poster there. The amount of hate he has posted on any even remotely positive post about LOTRO has always made me wonder if someone at Turbine stole his girlfriend or something.

As for Turbine moderating him on their forums to me it’s like an employee who goes to a business’s neighbors saying all manner of racist things then wondering why he is fired from his job. Turbine spends money and employee time to build a relationship with gaming forums like MMORPG. You cannot expect to go there trashing the company and then be welcomed with open arms on the company forums because you never said a bad thing in that one environment.

As a leading voice for the LOTRO community I wish you would investigate the whole story before you go paint Turbine as the bad guy.

Amberiel, I don’t know what you are talking about. I don’t post on MMORPG.com. If there is a Bellus there who is posting against LOTRO and/or Turbine, it isn’t me. I post as Scormus on most forums and websites, and only use the name BellusDufenna in one place, being the official LOTRO forums.

As I said earlier, I suggest people view my post history on the LOTRO forums, as well as the Rants on my website (note: the Troll section are meant to be jokes, so ignore those, for it is a silly place), and my video podcast as well. If you still feel I am an unhinged hater of all things Turbine after that, then that is your choice. But I am not the person you think I am.
