In this latest episode of “Behind the Scenes” we get introduced to the horses of Rohan. They talk with Todd Demelle, Turbine Online Art Director, about the importance of horses to Rohan.
Chris Poller, an equestrian specialist, talks about the type of horse that was selected and why. He was talking about actual horses and they are showing clips of their live trailer but it seems to me that the same research was used to model the in-game warsteed. If you visit the steed in Combe you can tell that it is much larger and stronger than our typical steeds currently in game.
The video finishes up with Linda Currie, Turbine Design Director, talking about the Rohirrim horses and the mearas.
We also have a whole new set of screenshots featuring mounted combat and warsteeds.

It’s interesting to pick out which current horse designs they’re redoing for the warsteeds… One of the shots is definitely of the referral horse.

As well as the class steeds, I can see the champion and the RK horse.

And the one orange glowing one, I forget the name.
There’s one that kind of looks like it has a purple blanket with bones on it… I’m wondering if that’s the skeleton mount?

The orange glowing one is the Steed of Night.
The one with bones on it might be the Bone cosmetics that are mentioned here: http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/2240-riders-of-rohan-war-steeds

I will say that if all horse purchases automatically include any appropriate warsteed skins for the same price ($20 or whatever it is), I’m a lot more interested. The value seems better.

Multi-part barding pieces, each able to take a multitude of dyes… (rubs hands)
Going to be FUN!

I’m wondering about the warsteed-appearances. I’ve never bought a horse, but I did win a couple store-exclusives in past lotteries. Would they count as bought as well?

If you have a horse that is being converted to a war-steed appearance no matter how you got it then you will get the appearance.
The ones listed in this link appear to be the only ones that are confirmed to have war-steed appearances, but I would expect the Burglar and Hunter ones to have one as well: http://www.lotro.com/lotrostoresale/2264

I want my Inn-League War Pony!

I wonder if our choice of horse will be limited by our class of armour (i.e. will heavy armour classes be able to select lighter/faster horses?).
July 25, 2012 at 3:34 pm
From what I can tell the choice of horse is only restricted to having bought RoR or not.

About halfway down this page, it says “There are three types of War-steeds, and while the mounts themselves are not specific to individual classes…”

Has anyone noticed how good the pics are? They seem higher resolution to me. Perhaps its from the new engine?
Anyway… pics look awesome!

There is something very wrong with that first image.
Those horses (the one the elf and the one the uruk are on) look tiny and they look like they’d be crushed under the weight of the riders and their armour.
The uruk looks like he’s on a bicycle. If he put his feet down he could just about stand.
