Turbine Guide: Legendary Items 101

Turbine has released a new 101 guide, this time focused on Legendary Items.  This guide focuses on different aspect of the Legendary Item system including how to unlock Legendary Items, how to identify them, how to improve them, and more.  While not every aspect of the system is covered, there certainly is more than enough information within the guide to get someone familiar enough with the system that they can explore some of the intricacies of the system.  My hope is that this is a first in a series of guides on Legendary Items, since Turbine does such an excellent job in creating guides for the end user.

I like the guide. But it also confirms that we’r not gonna get a LI update soon, or the guide would be outdated. Sadly now we need to deal with this system for a long time.

    Take care, whoever you are.

Any chance we can get this as a PDF. Some of use aren’t in a place where we can access Turbine’s website. Always appreciate the PDFs when release notes come out…:)

Wait, what? Turbine does a great job with guides? Maybe a Draigoch guide refresher read would be warranted…

Was that line copy and pasted from a presser? If so, I totally forgive you – Turbine does that all the time, apparently.

They have plenty of other perfectly fine guides to point to. As blog writer, I can understand the concept that every post isn’t going to be pure gold.

I know you’ve said many times how frustrating the Legendary Item system is for you, Goldenstar; did you find this guide helpful?

Then again, they never touched on Star-lit crystals, or the Rohan pre-order crystal either. It’s definitely just a “101″ basic intro.

I’ve not even gotten my first LI yet, but I found this guide quite good actually. I have more understanding of the LI system now than I had before.

There’s one thing missing from their guide, is the “Upgrade” thing. I’m back from a few months off LotRO and noticed this new stat on my LIs, where you have 3 “upgrade” slots. Turbine’s guide doesn’t mention this.

You can fill the stars with some star-lit cystals, and upgrade the LI’s attributes, like DPS. You can obtain the crystals from skirmishes (even solo T1 difficulty) and raids.

I love how they simplified it last year. Added a new tier of relics, then another tier. Added star-light crystals to it. And now another store something or other to add more legacies to it. I really wish the whole system was thrown in the trash. Soon we’ll be back up to the 9 relic tiers we were at before the simplification. Thank god that system was not picked up by GW2.

Totally agree with you, Jacob. I’m a level 54 who just started the LI ‘system’. What a bloated albatross! I realize some players think it’s next to blasphemy to criticize LOTRO, but I do not see how the LI system is Lore-friendly at all. Frodo didn’t have to dump Sting for a better blade after he got through Moria. From what I can tell LI’s is just another way Turbine is trying to get $$$ out of the players. As a VIP player who just drank the Kool-aid and bought the $70 RoR package I think I’m doing my own fair share to support the game. Please Turbine, have pity on us and make the LI system more user-friendly.
