In about a month, the Sons of Numenor are hosting a real-life event for LOTRO players at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The Sons of Numenor are a role-playing kinship based on the Landroval server. I play on Elendilmir, but I know them as the Scions of Korriban and the Sons of Numenor on the Ebon Hawk SWTOR role-play server (formerly of Lord Adraas prior to the server merges), and players from all servers and all kinships are welcome.1
LOTROcon 2012 is a fan-organised gathering to give LOTRO players a chance to get together and hang out. There will be a couple of planned activities, but the focus will be mostly just having fun together. Individuals are welcome, as are families and groups of friends and kinmates.
If you’ve never been, Cedar Point (which bills itself as “The Best Amusement Park in the World”) is consistently rated as one of the best theme parks in the world for roller coaster enthusiasts. It’s located right on Lake Erie, about halfway between Cleveland and Toledo (an hour or so drive from each), and two hours north of Columbus.2
The Agenda:
Friday, July 20
10 a.m. Cedar Point Opens – Friday is a travel day for most, so we keep it loose. Enjoy the park, have fun!
8 p.m. Dinner of Special Magnificence – Tomo Habachi, Japanese Steakhouse. Gather with the earlier arrivals for dinner and the show!
10 p.m. – After party. TBD based on group.
Saturday, July 21
8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Second Breakfast – Perkins, Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point.
1 p.m. Bullroarer Classic – Mini-Golfimbul, Challenge Park, Cedar Point.
6 p.m. Thorin’s Hall Clash – Bumper Car Frenzy, then dinner
7 p.m. Kinmoot – Dinner and talk of all things LOTRO, Kinships
12 a.m. Afterparty – TGI Friday’s, Hotel Breakers, Cedar Point
Sunday, July 22
8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Second Breakfast – McDonalds, next to Breakers Express
10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Cedar Point, in groups and otherwise.
Tickets
The cost of admission runs about $30 for children and seniors and $45 for adults for a single day ticket. There are multiple-day packages available and a ticket option that includes a water park. Other ticketing options are here.
For more information, visit the LOTROcon website and register so the planners can get a good idea of who will be attending.
06/26/12 EDIT:
The LOTROcon.com redirect is working again.
- The Scions of Korriban is the Sith Empire guild and the Sons of Numenor is their Republic counterpart. They also have the all-trooper 22nd 9th. Sith rule; Pubs drool! Enough said. ↩
- Even though I live only about 4 hours away, it’s been about 20 years since I’ve been to Cedar Point (Paramount’s King’s Island is closer). It was a blast then, and people I know rave about it today, especially those who like roller coasters. ↩

I wasn’t previously aware of this event. While I won’t be able to attend this year, I may be able to in the future. A follow up article recapping the event would be a useful reference.

Have fun!
I’m sure it will be an amazing gathering.

I’m on Landroval and know several members of SoNs. I used to live 4 hours from Cedar Point and have been there numerous times. Now I live about 12 hours away and I really want to do this, sadly I cannot this year. This really bugs me because Cedar Point really IS the best amusement park on the planet!

Aye, timing could not be helped. However we are moving our kinship operations to a dedicated server, which we just duplicated our main site too this Thursday/Friday. The result was the redirects got borked. That has been fixed however.
The event is looking good so far. As intended, light, social, open-ended. Couple of dozen hard committs as of this date. If folks can RSVP ASAP, it will help narrow down day-of logistics.
We are looking at follow-up regional events at places we can assemble a few folks. We’ll be doing pre-post screening gatherings for The Hobbit come December.
2013 is something I’m already looking at. Odds are good I will keep the Cedar Point location for at least a summer gathering in the Great Lakes region. I’m getting suggestions for other locations for a “national” event. But first things first.
