Another Lord of the Rings game was announced at E3 this year. The game is called Guardians of Middle-Earth and allows two teams of five to battle it out to see who would win in an arena style fight.
If you have ever wanted to see what a fight between Gandalf, Gollum, Sauron and many others would look like then have no fear because it is all set for you in this first trailer which should tide you over till the release.

A Casual Stroll to Mordor Blog and Podcast is fansite service started by married couple Merric and Goldenstar. They started playing The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) during beta and both of have lifetime subscriptions to the game.

I agree that there is really no way to get around the fact that they are messing with the lore. I will not be getting it but thought it would be nice to let all the people know.

I agree, he does seem very out of place and really if you balance Gollum and Gandalf then there is a huge problem with your game!

I am glad this is only an arcade game and not a full blown game. Normally I’m not one who cringes when Lore is broken so badly but that video gave me a bad tingly feeling. Arena based games can be fun so who knows about this one.
I also felt like this could be the promotional video for a game of Chess. Anyone ever play chess games where the pieces would fight each other. Totally see this as Chess of the Rings.

Actually I’m very surprised that the Tolkien enterprise allowed a game like this. In the past they were very “tight” with their allowed usage of the estate. This is fairly far away from there historical use of the name IMO. The game itself may be just fine for what it is, but it certainly is NOT the Lord of the Rings in any way, shape, or form.

I am also very surprised but I think that they just gave rights for Warner Brothers to make whatever they want and that is what we are seeing here. While it might not be for people who are into the lore I think that some of the movie fans will like this game.

Just want to add my voice to the negative reaction here. It is annoying on two levels, 1. The use of the material here is pretty terrible, but also 2. Its a absolute rip (on the surface) of Warhammer: Wrath of Heros.

It looks fun. Nothing wrong with trying to add even more life to LOTR. This game might even get more people playing LOTRO. I know I wouldn’t be playing if BFME 2 (Xbox 360) wasn’t the best rts on the console.

That is a great point and I think many people will like this game but from a lore perspective it can be hard to watch but thank you for showing the positve side of things.

as a gamer and a lotr fun i say THIS IS EPIC, blah blah..lore lore..i love lotr and always have but to make a SICK game like this one, with action and just pure awesomness u can overlook it,even if that means forget about it completly xD I LOVE THIS AND IM GETTING IT

I agree it looks really cool but at the same time Gandalf is much cooler when he can beat up Gollum as apose to having balance…just saying that they are going to have to balance this game and make some really cool characters not anywhere near as cool

Ignoring who the characters are, the action in the trailer seems quite good. But I, like others here, cannot ignore who the characters are… from a lore perspective it is as if Gandalf decided to use the one ring.
This trailer isn’t going to get me to play the game, but then again, their target audience probably is much more interested in action than lore.

So the copyright holders object to pubs being called the hobbit or whatever yet are happy to put the name to games based on the old playground arguement of who would win in a fight. Unless it’s more aimed at the dota, lol, hon market.
Cant wait for chuck norris to arrive as a dlc to wipe the floor with everyone. He has a beard so must be part dwarf at least… though he did sell his soul to blizzard.
Gandalf sounds almost as bad as the aussie rohirrim that turbine found for their live action attempt, and the big bad guy at the end bears more than a passing similarity to the lead in the overlord games.
Question, Which idiot throws away their weapon at the start of a fight? Yes there are thrown weapons but the bastard sword wasnt one of them.
