LOTRO 5 YearsApril is a big celebration month for LOTRO! This month marks 5 years of playing online in Middle-earth! To celebrate, Turbine is having special sales each weekend in addition to the weekly sale.

These items are more than the typical 20% off making these very appealing!

This listing is valid until April 15, 2012. Check out what’s on sale this weekend below plus our advice on whether to buy.

 Monster Classes

Blackarrow
Fire massive and deadly arrow types from range!
Defiler
Heal Evil forces or disable Free Peoples with deadly plagues!
Stalker
Strike stealthily, silently, and suddenly!
Warleader
Rally your troops, heal your allies, and absorb incoming damage!
Weaver
Use poisons and webs to manipulate and control prey!

Store Location: Account → Classes
Level: 10+
795
517

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: Extra classes add diversity to game play and so picking up a new class or two while one sale seems like a good idea to me. If one of the other monster classes had you wondering, this may be the time to try it out!

Tomes Of Agility

Trolls pounding you into submission? Friends defeated because you can’t heal them fast enough? Then it may be time to upgrade your character’s Agility stats!
- Do more ranged attack damage
- Evade and parry enemy attacks
- Increase your chance to crit and hit enemies
- Recommended for: Burglars & Hunters

Store Location: Character → Stats
Level: All
295
207

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: Stat tomes are typically a hot item and with stat caps removed, this may be of interest to more than the core will users depending on how you plan to build your character.

These tomes can drop in game but they seem to be a bit on the rare-ish side. But it is an in-game option if you want to check the Auction House first.

The tomes are a consumable put into the pack of the character that purchased it. You have to use them in order. You cannot accidently buy the wrong one in the LOTRO Store as they only show you the tier you haven’t used but this is important if one dropped for you or if you purchased one off the AH.

Scroll of Combination

When used, this scroll increases your ‘Critical Success’ chance to 25% while combining relics at the relic forge. Works when forging relics of tiers 2 through 7. Lasts for 15 minutes.

Store Location: Goods & Services → Legendary Items → Scrolls
Levels: 50+
795
517

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: If you are planning on crafting a really critical relic I suppose you may find these very interesting but at $5 for 15 minutes (and that’s the sale price!) I personally will be passing on these. They aren’t necessary and that’s why they get the “meh” rating.

Have either of you tried the ever-controversial Erebrandir’s Horseshoe at the legendary forge?

Re: horseshoe – I had read a forum post from a truly commited Individual who compared the crit rates for combining some 200+ relics with and without. He found a statistically significant increase in crit rates using the horseshoe back before RoI. Not sure of %, but got me using it.

The freebie combo scroll a few weeks ago seemed to give me the same results as crafting crit increase things. Higher % chance means reduced crit results, or at least random chance is still random chance and longshots occur 9/10 times. For a specific relic you’re possibly better just melding if you can.

I swear… turbine looks at my most recent purchases before they pick a sale (not really but seems that way). I just bought all the monster classes during the 30% off coupon event. So there’s 200 tp down the drain. Same thing always happens to me. I’ve added it up and over my LOTRO career (which isn’t even that long) and I’ve missed out on around 4,000 tp from bad timing. Bah humbug.

I had great success using the free scroll. I had enough relics and gold on hand to spend nearly 15 minutes clicking. I still had relics left at the end. All in all I think I spent 30 gold (maybe more). I did spend a long time preparing for it.

There were times that I didn’t get many crits at all. Also there were times I got a whole lot together. I think the best was 8 in a row (but maybe it was only 6).

Remember that if you only do 10 relics, there is a ~7.5% chance of only getting one crit at 25%. Its not really that unlikely to get this amount. If you had done a lot more you would have seen it being closer to 75% overall.
