Outside LOTRO: Lembas Bread Recipe

Outside LOTRO

leaf-lembasLast week we received an email from Rudy M. who found this new lembas recipe on EntropyHouse.com.

I’ve tried making my own Lembas before from a recipe I found on Once Upon a Hobbit and they turned out great! These tasted a bit like a sweeter cookie/bread type item. They were very yummy!

This new recipe says it makes a delicately lemon-flavored, lightly sweetened scone-type bread. This has me very curious to try this one as well. It also has instructions on how to make a leaf wrap to make it extra authentic.

Check out the tutorial and recipe and if you end up trying it, please let me know! Rudy’s email suggested making them and sneaking them into the showing of “The Hobbit” later this year! Great idea!

    Nomnomnom…scones!

Looks like a vert easy recipe to pull off, I may try it myself. Don’t have any lemon extract though, I might try it with vanilla extract instead.

I’m not much of a cooking-person, but I’ve made myself promise to hang around the kitchen a bit more during the summer. Might try out one of those two recipes then :) Thanks for sharing!

This looks like an interesting recipe. I wonder if lemon zest can work in place of lemon extract?

For lemon extract a possible sub would be zest of a lemon, just leave the mix to sit for a while to allow the zest to infuse a bit. Could also reduce the milk content a shade and add some lemon juice, though not at the same time to avoid curdling.

Or heat some peel and flesh of a lemon in a sugar syrup to make a basic marmalade and use that in conjunction with the sugar in the recipe.

Self-raising flour instead of plain should make it a bit lighter going along with the baking powder.

I’ve a recipe for a breakfast bar type thing that’s pretty similar to this but has lashings of sultanas, raisins, dates, apricots, basically any dried fruit and seeds you can find. Awesome for muching on while out in the hills.

Thx for the substitution tips Andy. I’ll give the lemon zest a try as we have a lemon tree in the back yard ;)

The weather was lousy today so I decided to make those lembas. The EntropyHouse.com recipe turned out great. I did substitute lemon zest since I had no extract. Total time from prep to pulling them out of the oven, about a half hour give or take. And they taste yummy. I think I have a bit of Pippin and Merry in me. I’ve already had 2 and I’m going back for more ;)
