Today LOTRO announced two new store bundles that they’ve added to the LOTRO Store!
The two largest bundles are the new items. Now I can already hear you going “OH EM GEE $200!!?!” Honestly though, only the $99.99 one is truly news to me.
The $199.99 version has been available in the Turbine Web Store since December 2011. When introduced it was $136.49 as a special but even then it showed it’s full price was $199.99. Oh I agree. It’s completely insane amount of points for a huge chunk-o-cash. I can’t imagine someone requiring more points. Ever.
I know Merric dreams of having 23,000 Turbine Points. He asked if he thought we’d continue playing long enough for him to spend them all. I assured him we certainly were going to play for at least another month so.. yeah.
Still it must have been purchased in order to make it a viable addition in the in-game store as well. The $99.99 version may have been added to be a filler since it’s a pretty big jump from $60 to $200!
Let’s look at the conversion rates.
- $99.99 bundle reduces the cost to $0.009095 per point
- $199.99 bundle reduces the cost to $0.008695 per point
Both are less than a penny a point but honestly, this isn’t really a super great conversion rate (if you are into counting tenths of a penny in your calculations).
However I can see the appeal of these huge bundles. A one time purchase to give you all you should possibly need to buy all the goodies you need for your account and characters.
The only thing I am crazy enough to wonder is, will these bundles ever be part of a double bonus points promotion? Holy moly 33,500 Turbine Points! That would be pretty darn awesome. I still don’t have $200 but I can still acknowledge the awesome at least.

To give you an idea.. my pseudo lifetime account is probably <20kTP. (All content, all shared storage 30 wallet, 1 outfit)
(Hard drive died so I i've only got the figures to right before RoI but I did some estimatin based on the 11000TP or so I'd spent at that point, and I had a number of extras at the time.
The $100 or $200 +1 month VIP is the new pseudo lifetime.

Wow, this plus the new version of the mithril edition are great additions to us premium players. However, as with the sales that happened before RoI, I suspect this is to make players buy TP, and them “make” them buy the special editions of RoR with real money for all the additional goodies (I know I will buy that).
All in all, I don’t think it’s a bad thing Turbine is “competing” with them self to offer us better deals

If they’re going to offer the 23K TP for $200, why don’t they just bring back the lifetime accounts for $200?

Longterm financial liability. (Monthly TP stipend..minimal need to buy any TP if you’re frugal and are willing to settle for expansions in the store..etc.)
Sadly you can’t buy PvMP (Freep) or the right to apply participate in their Private NDAed program any other way without continually subscribing.
Spending Destiny points are another perk you can’t buy, but you can buy the buffs with TP directly, and DP looks like its on its way out the door (continually scaling back DP sources.)

The funny thing is if you buy 12 copies of the Mithril Edition on Gamestop’s website for $180, and you would get 24,000 TP.
At ~133 TP/$, the Mithril Edition is still the best deal going for TP. Don’t know how long it’ll last, though.

Can you apply multiple copies of the Mithril Edition?
