Details on the new and improved anniversary festival have been posted! This year’s anniversary festival will run from April 16th – April 30th, 2012.

We will post a full guide to the festival when this activated but here’s what we know is coming!

New Quests and Deeds

This year we have new quests and deeds to help us earn extra anniversary tokens.

Travel across the Shire and Bree-land on all-new fireworks quests and deeds. Plus- A new gift giving quest and invitation hunt start you on your path to earning new festival gear.

Double Experience

From April 24 – 30, 2012 there is double experience earned on monster kills! Time to get your favorite character or favorite alt some levels!

Gift Box Tokens Drop from Mobs

Just like previous years, monsters will be dropping level appropriate gift boxes randomly that will hold metal themed names. For example “Tin Token” or “Gold Token”. These are not the same as the anniversary tokens. You will not have to do anything special as these will just randomly drop as you are slaying your foes.

This event is also available for monster players to participate in!

Beer Battles

This event was active last year and will be again although it will not be the only way to obtain anniversary tokens. These are short repeatable battles where you whack other players around with a huge club while trying to obtain the glorious beer. It’s gruesome, messy and plain crazy. That’s your clue that the dwarves invented this “sport”.

Horse Races

lotro-anniversary-festival_image02Horse races will be active like with other festivals and there is a special Anniversary steed (that is separate from the 5 year steed gift). It looks to have a very firework theme which is pretty awesome. I will be sure to pick this one up!

Update: After I posted this a Dev Diary on the anniversary festival was released! Go check it out!

That steed is amazing! Too bad the double xp starts the day after the end of my Easter Holidays, but it’ll be nice nonetheless.

Luckily I had asked for the 16th & 17th off of work for a mini-vacation weeks ago! Extra time to play for me!

I’m pleased with how they handled all of this this year. I like the general token stuff (I’ve gotten some great, rare items from it over the years), but the fact that it’s offset with rewards based on your play time is great. I’ve been hoping they’d do that. Makes up for how poorly it all went last year.

Maybe the steed is firework-propelled, for an extra speed boost :D

Handy tip for those short of skirmish marks or who don’t skirmish. The metal tokens dropped by mobs can be bartered with Tad Leafcutter outside the Hunting Lodge in Bree for skirmish marks. ;)

And that is an awesome looking horse!
