LOTRO Artwork

Kotaku has a great article up about artwork by Wes Burt of Massive Black showing artwork designs done for our favorite game, The Lord of the Rings Online.

If Turbine is enlisting talent like this for their design, no wonder there my wardrobe is absolutely bursting with the costumes found in the Isengard expansion. I see designs for the pre-order armor, guardian steed, hunter steed and other recognizable items my character is squirrelling away (or in some cases currently wearing).

Visit Kotaku and flip through the designs. They are well worth looking at.

Special thank you to Carrie for sending us this link to Kotaku!

ROI was absolutely best for sheer armor designs, so many nice looking gear to collect. The above pictures attest to that design (excepting the lace stockings on the last one, i mean.. O_o?)

Yes RoI was awesome for cosmetic enthusiasts and I think I have the armor on the left on my champion right now (also capes increased in quality dramatically as well).

Of all the complaints you could have about Rise of Isengard, the quality of the armour pieces is definitely NOT one of them.

Frankly they’re the best I’ve seen anywhere ingame.

They have had some of the best concept artists, texture artists, etc in the industry for a while now. In fact, sometimes I’m disappointed the game doesn’t match some of that art more closely (Draigoch, for example).

I am consistently impressed with the texture work in this game, particularly in instanced areas. The Library, that huge tower in Angmar? A lot of it is impressive even now.

I’m afraid to think how awesome armour will look like when we reach the Black Gate :P It’s good to see Turbine’s artists aren’t delivering over-the-top armour concept at this stage of the game – they need to keep the best for the last :>

Great to know Turbine’s hiring the best people for art, now onward to music. We need some epic tracks for Rohan.

I found some more of the concept art here.

Truly beautiful. Makes me wish they could go back through the whole game and bring it up to this quality. Even individual faces are fabulous here…not cookie cutter.
