Final Week for Mithril Edition Pre-order

February 21, 2012

LOTRO News

MithrilEditionThe date for the Mithril Edition being available in the U.S. has changed slightly since we last wrote about it. The release date for this starter pack edition is now Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

That makes this the last full week to obtain the pre-order from GameStop and take advantage of the pre-order bonus of an extra 500 Turbine Points.

The Mithril Edition includes:

The pre-order version also includes a bonus 500 Turbine Points making it a total of 2500 Turbine Points. That’s nearly the price of the entire package just in points! The points are not granted early. According to the site they are either emailed for online customers or printed on the receipt for store purchases.

I previously had broke down the pricing value of this new package (see details here).

This boxed copy is already available for our European friends on Amazon UK with a release date of September 30, 2011. Not exactly sure why it took so long to find it’s way into the U.S. stores.

I still think this is a great starter pack for friends looking to get into LOTRO with a good bundle of quest pack, Turbine Points, a horse and if they need it the starter guide and game discs.

Earlier on http://mithril.lotro.com/ there was information indicating that it would be available not only in retail stores but also through the Turbine Web Store. This information is no longer there but perhaps they are giving GameStop the pre-order exclusivity and a digital version will be available later on. There’s no information on this yet but we will keep our beady little Hobbit eyes open.

I’ve been heavily considering it… I don’t really need any of the quest packs, but $30 for 2500 points and a new account wide horse? It seems like a steal given what the individual ones go for on the in-game store.

A good deal for a starter package for sure. I think the Isengard Legendary edition still beats it for overall value if you’re intending to play through endgame though. You lose out on some TP but gain Isengard, Mirkwood and 2 additional mounts I believe.

Random question… If you preorder online, does Gamestop only charge once it ships?

Gamestop like most online retailers will charge when the Item is ready to ship or has shipped.

I pre-ordered two months ago, (and Haven’t been charged yet)

Not sure – I dropped VIP status just recently and I’ll admit I’m eyeing the new update *really* carefully. I paid for Moria and the “big neato lots of horses and cosmetics” version of Isengard prior to dropping out of the game and I’m honestly not sure what I’d get out of the Mithril edition.

Now if Turbine would just cough up a Mac client – I’d be all over it.

Does anybody know if with this pack also the instances in Moria and Lorien are included ? This would be quite important for me :-)

Check with amazon if you’re in the EU we’ve had it for a few months now, should be around the £20 mark. Not a that bad a price for an accountwide horse and TP’s if you’re a collector of mounts.

Only thing we seem to have lost out on was the preorder points from gamestop. The gamestop.co.uk site doesnt seem to have it only listing 3 types of WoW, SWTOR and interestingly Diablo 3.

Hmm.. might think about it ..
Though, another (noob?) question… I’m VIP since the beginning on the game, so this package only interests me for the TPs and the horse (and the physical CD support, maybe). Is it interesting to buy this package ? Will i have access to the TPs and horses etc ? or is it a package made for new players ?
I mean, will i get codes to upgrade my account with the horse etc ?
A bit cloudy to me, all that, eh eh…

A cautionary tale for anyone who preordered the Mithril Edition: the brick and mortar Gamestop that I preordered from is not honoring the 500 TP preorder deal. I think this is more to employee incompetence (one of the staff thought is was “insane” that a game would use all the keys on the keyboard) than anything else. I asked how I was supposed to retrieve my TP when the receipt did not print with a code for Turbine. After many puzzled looks and several explanation on how Turbine, MMOs, and computers work, I got told “Sorry, I just don’t know what to do.” I’m more sad at Gamestop’s inability to provide adequate training for it’s employees (at least this one) than anything else. I still got the 2000 TP, horse, etc. in the box, which is what I actually paid for. Would be nice to have those extra TP, but lesson learned.

If I recall correctly, the way the 500 points code was going to work was:

Orders made online would get the code sent to them via email within 2 days of release.

Pre-orders made in a store (where they don’t have email data) the code would print at the bottom of the receipt at checkout.
