Phew, almost 3 hours. I’m leveling up a Captain now, will have to check it out. Thanks!
February 29, 2012 at 12:51 am
I love these roundtables, the down side being that every time I listen to one I end up starting that class. I want to say knock it off, I need to get my LM to 75 already!, but I won’t! ;D
February 29, 2012 at 1:24 am
Awesome. I just returned to the game and have a level 75 Cappy. I think I have adjusted well with the changes but it’s always good getting input of others. Thanks for all your hard work!
February 29, 2012 at 7:29 am
Do you plan on recording new roundtables for all of the classes?
February 29, 2012 at 7:39 am
Yes
February 29, 2012 at 9:24 am
Oh that’s nice
I can’t wait for the Lore-master one, I really felt less noob after I listened to the first one
March 16, 2012 at 10:21 pm
I was wondering if you could do the warden next as they underwent some pretty big changes in update 6 and am quite frankly still confused.
Thanks, Krys of Crickhollow
March 16, 2012 at 11:25 pm
Probably not as they’re not done working with the wardens it sounds like.
February 29, 2012 at 11:52 am
Congrats to everyone involved! (pats self on back ;p) I thought we did a pretty decent job tackling Captain 2.0 in the new environment.
One quick addendum after listening to the podcast: Regarding the legacy trait – Fellowship Brother. There would be one instance where slotting it would be pointless: if you are soloing with your pet and are shield-brothering it and have the capstone for the related class line. This automatically gives the captain the full effect of the shield brother benefits so using Fellowship Brother to extend benefits across the party would be pointless. If you have a third target when soloing (i.e. skirmish soldier) then there would be argument for getting the attenuated SB skills to him/her via Fellowship Brother.

Good work overall, very enjoyable. One point I think you missed out on was the “magic level” question. On the first roundtable, someone asked incredulously how another had managed to get through 35-45 twice. Amen to that. Right around level 40, there’s a definite pinch with the lack of attack skills and the Shout -> Blade cycle lacking its real kickstarters yet. I came pretty close to bailing on my captain around then, but frankly I liked Eregion too much the first time through and was looking forward to it. The book traits (Oathbreakers for solo), IDOME from the 45 quest, and the first legendaries were SUCH a shot in the arm, it’s crazy. Also helpful was that I spent 50-53 finishing epic volume 1, a lot of which plays well to the captain, and gives good gear rewards for the level.

Wow I’m “inspired” to try out yellow and red line again, despite being satisfied with my DPS output in blue line.
February 29, 2012 at 1:38 pm
Well despite the viability of the different lines, the blue line is still the omnipresent one. If you aren’t going full HoH, there is always a smattering of blue in whichever line you choose (i.e I’ve yet to try or even heard of any captain traiting a combination of all red, all yellow, or red-yellow). Given this, it’s probably safe to say that blue is still king =p
February 29, 2012 at 4:20 pm
Didn’t we just spend 3 hours talking about how there was no king. Especially with the changes to RoI.
;p
February 29, 2012 at 7:55 pm
Yeah that was tongue and cheek. I was just mentioning that blue class traits are present in most, if not all builds; something I don’t think can be said for the other colours. I wasn’t implying that HoH was king hehe.
March 1, 2012 at 8:09 am
I was also joking. You do make a good point in that there are generally two blue in both my yellow and red setup. The two set bonus for Blue is just really good and so are the traits in the line.

I respect the knowledge of the Captains you assembled, but I really think you should have chosen a dedicated LtC Captain to give that perspective. Whats more, a little more dedicated Moors Captain would have expanded your Moors section.
February 29, 2012 at 7:51 pm
Thanks for your input Cariance, much appreciated. The captain is the epitome of diversity; as such, it would be pretty rare to come across someone who is exclusively dedicated to one line and not the others. I’ve yet to encounter a captain who values LtC over anything else. In fact, as Elb mentioned, the captain changes builds based on the needs of the party. I equally flip between HoH and LtC for the reasons mentioned in the podcast and am equally comfortable in both. As for the Moors, there was more that could have been discussed (I’m almost glory rank 7 and have plenty to say about my experiences) but obviously we had to talk about all the various dimensions of the cappy. As such, we had to talk about Moors play in very general terms; there wasn’t enough time to go into the nitty gritty. Perhaps a podcast dedicated solely to Moors play and how it affects each class would prove more satisfying.

I can’t believe that the captains said they run raids in LoM and HoH. I personally always use 4 reds, 3 blues with new raiding content. Giving up idome for your own benefit going traitline is just silly IMO. An end game raiding captain not raiding with fellowship brother, oathbreakers, and idome is hurting there group. +75 for each state will help masteries, mitigations, morale, power, icpr, crit, etc… The only time I go traitline is LoM for a very specific kiting job I have in ToO.
Our traitlines our fabalous for three man’s and also for instances like the foundry. My favorite thing to do is get my captains morale up to 18K and maintank the foundry, including both bosses at then end in LoM. It would be nice to hear from a crit build cappy, which is how the majority of end game raiding cappies are set up.
March 7, 2012 at 12:18 am
Some of what you’re saying is confusing me. Traitlines and IDOME/no IDOME are two different discussions. I roll 5 blue/2 red and IDOME, Fellowship brother and the HOH legendary. With all the crazy stat numbers post ROI, there is less need for Oathbreakers, and I rarely equip it any more.
March 7, 2012 at 3:11 am
Oathbreakers or Shield of the Dunedain are really situational. If you need quick spike damage oathbreakers is what you want ( I trait it in the Moors to melt down a creep fast) and SoD is again if you are in a situation where keeping the tank up is of the essence. I typically trait IDOME in most situations though…even though +75 to each stat isn’t what it used to be, the cumulative effect across members of the fellowship still make it a default trait for me: typically I am IDOME, FB and CAPSTONE or IDOME, OATHBREAKERS, CAPSTONE when solo with pet.
March 1, 2012 at 5:05 am
I was looking forward to this! My main is a captain which I am playing for 3 or 4 years already. But I am always looking for good tips.
Currently the hardest thing for me is Isengard gear. I have been wearing my Moria instance gear (combined with some gear from the Mirkwood instances) until I was lvl 75. I consider a captain to be one of the most all-round classes and I have a very hard time to find all-round gear because every piece of gear you’ll find nowadays is targeted at some specific stat.

Great job guys, thank you!
Two little remarks:
1. Landscape Skirmish-Soldiers are planned for RoR, not for Update afaik
2. 5-Set bonus for the “yellow” Orthanc-Set adds +600 Tactical Mitigation to the Motivating Speech Buff
March 1, 2012 at 5:55 am
Landscape soldiers are in fact update 6. We didn’t get that wrong.
March 1, 2012 at 7:49 am
Oh really? Shame on me then

It would be real nice if any of you could transcribe at least the key moments of each roundtable, like a summary of factors! It would help people like me who doesn’t understand spoken english too well and also help anyone with future search, quick checks and etc. Thanks for the roundtables anyway, it’s already awesome as it is.
March 3, 2012 at 4:23 am
about future roundtables, will there be a Creep roundtable and Freep roundtable or Moors roundtable or something like Warg Weavers and Reavers in one and Defilers and War-leaders in another or individual creep roundtables?
March 7, 2012 at 11:58 am
Check http://throughthepalantir.blogspot.com/ for creep roundtables. The first one on defilers is already up (it’s about halfway through the podcast). I think Ivaneus plans on doing all the creeps in a timely fashion.

Great job on this round table! I am glad you are doing another look at all of the classes. Is a champion round table coming soon?
