LOTRO Store

It was weird writing 2012 in the title of this post. The future is weird. We’re in it though and here’s the LOTRO sales and my handy commentary for the stuff this week!

The following items are on sale from January 6 – 12, 2012.

Free Sample of the Week

Free morale potions this week! I’m pretty sure you can guess what these are used for but it is important to note that the potions purchased in the store do not share a cool-down timer with the crafted/purchased versions in game so they can be helpful for particularly tough fights.

Simply put into your cart and use coupon code KB5F82 to get this for free until January 12th. Coupon code has one use per account.

Expansion Quests: Moria

Experience over 350 quests, seven full fellowship instances (Dark Delvings, Fil Gashan, Skûmfil, The Sixteenth Hall, The Forges of Khazad-dûm, The Grand Stair, and The Forgotten Treasury), and two 12-person raids (Dâr Narbugud and The Vile Maw) for levels 51 – 60.
Balin left the Lonely Mountain many years ago on an expedition to reclaim Moria, the Longbeards’ home of old, and was never heard from again. Dáin Ironfoot, King Under the Mountain, has sent forth the Iron Garrison from the Iron Hills to investigate and lend aid to Lord Balin, if necessary. Breaching the Hollin Gate, collapsed by the Watcher in the Water, the Iron Garrison does not find Balin and his company, but rather an endless horde of Orcs, goblins, Wargs, trolls, and creatures even more foul. Join the Iron Garrison in their efforts to reclaim Moria from Mazog son of Bolg and his fell legions and discover the dark secrets that lie in the depths of Khazad-dûm.

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: First off note that the name of this is a little misleading. It says “expansion” but the version in the store is technically just a Moria Quest Pack. You’ll get all the zones, quests, deeds, and dungeons so you will have the full Moria experience. However, this version will not offer the two extra character slots and warden/runekeeper class that the retail boxed version of the Moria expansion also grants. The retail boxed version is getting a bit scarce to find or if found can be pricey.

If you’re edging close to Moria and either don’t care about finding the boxed expansion I say go for it. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Moria on sale.

+5,000 Enhanced Reputation Supply

Gain a bonus to all earned faction reputation until a total of 5,000 bonus reputation has been added. This bonus does not have a time limit, and only expires when the 5,000 bonus reputation points have been depleted.

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: These are one of those convenience items that gives you a shortcut without the grind. These get a meh simply because it’s not necessary. You can get through the normal in-game methods.

+25% Legendary Item XP Tomes

Gain a 25% bonus to item experience earned from killing monsters around your level range for 30-60 minutes! Single & 5-stacks available.

Store Location: Buffs & Boosts → Advancement → Item XP
Levels: 51+

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: A quicker result to the same end if you just took your time. It will only affect the legendary items you have equipped and set to earn exp. If you’re looking to pump out some relics and get your LI to 30 for the legacies, this will help you get there faster.

 Dusky Nimblefoot Goat

Got Goat? If not, then learn how to summon a goat that, unlike steeds, can also be used in the depths of Moria. This goat has 60 morale and allows the character purchasing it to travel 62% faster than running on foot. The Dusky Nimblefoot Goat is a dusky tan colour with a blue blanket and tack.

Store Location: Travel & Housing → Mounts → Standard

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: I own one of these from the Mirkwood expansion pack and it was nice so all my characters has something to ride in Moria but my personal opinion is this is no way worth the approximate $8 sale price tag. It’s got really really low health and if a goblin so much as sneers menacingly at you, you will be off the goat and walking. There are reputation goats you can earn in game before reaching Moria such as the Thorin’s Hall reputation goat or the Ale Association Goat that is available during the Yule Festival.

“Expansion” is misleading. Glad you could crack the code on your own. But clarification by GS is helpful. Keep up the great work, CSTM crew!

Since the festival lasts all month, I may just pick up a couple rep accelerators on sale to see if I can bring one or two characters up to Kindred with Inn League/Ale Association. That’s actually handy timing.

As a hunter it was fairly easy, with a little daily focus, to get the Inn League rep up… and those badges of taste come in handy as I was able to get festival mount on day 1, huzzah! :)
