Episodes from 2012, Podcast

SarumanThis week we talk about the new expansion Riders of Rohan coming Fall 2012 and the news of what is coming with Update 6.

Goldenstar is still struggling her way through Rise of Isengard. She is very disappointed that despite effort on her part she’s still level 72.

Goldenstar’s Dum group this week went into Anuminas and finished off with a Thievery and Mischief Skirmish. Yay for big pink monsters!

Merric is working on more quests in Isengard, ran a skirmish with Moondog and Bryandt and then had his first chance to tank Draigoch!

Comments: Hi folks,

I know that the news on LOTRO at present is a tad on the slow side, but thought I would direct you to this little gem that was pointed out to me the other day. It’s a tad old but it’s so worth the read..

http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?283276-3-things-a-champion-would-like-…..

I don’t know if you can use it in the show or not but either way-

Enjoy!

Greetings,

First of all, this is a fantastic blog, good job all!

I’m just wondering, if there’s any chance to have a post about interface skins (not just plugins), of course about the updated ones since RoI. Some of them worth mentioning.

Thanks

Andy

Dear GS, M and BH,

I’ve been working on getting a woodburning stove fitted into my bedroom instead of the old fireplace that came with my cottage and managed to drop the thing on my foot when lifting it up the step and through the front door. Should any other cstm listeners ever do the same tell them to wear decent foot protection as should you drop it on your foot IT HURTS.

How does that apply to lotro you wonder. Well it basically means that I have to rest my foot while it heals and so I was looking into putting lotro onto my laptop. This could allow me to play with foot up and have the option of playing through the tv as well.

ToR was copy pasted across from PC to laptop and I know you can do the same thing with WoW however with lotro it seems as though I cant get a working copy that way.

The laptop copy coming from my pc which will date back to codemasters which may be a source of issues being a mere eu copy. My problem seems to be missing dll files but its a different one each time.

And so my questions to yourselves, and other cstm founts of knowledge, is this.

Is there a simple way to copy paste a working copy of lotro from one machine to another?

And if there isnt an easy way is there a way of getting the client without afflicting my laptop with the pando tripe that turbine insists on using.

Fileplant does have something BUT I’d much rather not download something for hours when in theory I have the files already to hand which by the dates is more up to date. I also have hard copy of MoM but would be little more than a toe in the door, broken or otherwise.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Andy

Small update on the whole lotro to laptop thing.

Installed from MoM disc but it isnt able to connect at all.

Copied the lotro files I’d transferred, from pc to laptop, into the MoM folder and was asked for my username and password, EU sub and proceded to update.

“success” I thought until it tried to start the game and told me there were dat files missing without saying which ones.

I feel I’m close enough to smell the pie-cake and thanks to the chatroom folks and Thaladus who took time to email you with a couple more options using flashdrives or portable HD. Going to give the HD option a whirl first as all my flashdrives are 4-8gb.

      2nd update.

Play.com have a sale on today and by some strange synergistic coincidence they have a 32gb flashdrive for £15.99.

Ordered one up as a flashdrive will likely be a more portable option than the HD route.

Copy the fully patched copy from PC 1->2. Run TurbineRegisterGDF.exe, Run the launcher. Enjoy.
(You must have .NET 1.1 on the other PC already :)

I have 4 characters around the 64-66 level. I think I’ll probably get one of them to 75 by ror but not all, let alone the rest of the alts I have. Not that I’m in any rush. Maybe they’ll all get there eventually.

What I think we really need as an update at some point is a moria alternative, to ease the pain on us altoholics! I like moria, but I have a number of alts waiting outside the gates at the moment, hoping for an alternative.

From turbines perspective, it must be very difficult to keep level capped players, casual players and altoholics happy!

Second that. I’ve only done Moria with one single toon, and I still can’t gather enough strength to send another.

Except for the Nameless, I don’t mind Moria so much, it’s Angmar I dread to revisit with alts. I guess that’s appropriate, but I don’t know how I’m going to get a Lore Master through that place.

My route at the moment for alts is Evendim until about 42ish, add in the epic stuff and you’re close to hitting 45 in misty m’s. Detour to moria opening for starting the LI grind before doing class quest slaying/skirmishing for items. Angmar is only done now for the epic line and thats about it. The feel of the zone is spot on, save perhaps for what passes as music, but that doesnt make most people want to stay and quest there for a decent amout of time in one sitting.

Can also gain a level or so killing in sarnur for rep drops towards the thorins goat.

That will get you close to 48-49 by which time you can more comfortably be in moria although taxi’s are locked until 50.

What? Did I hear that right? We’re going to be able to quest with our skirmish soldiers as companions?! I gather it will be next fall before this is enabled, but I’ve been wanting this since I hit level 20. This will make me very happy if it happens.

I can see the use of having a soldier/companion/minion running about with you however with the current AI that they have and only 2 controls, one of which is the summon, they’d be more of a hinderance than a help.

At the very least buttons for stop/stay and passive are needed and it wouldnt hurt to have them actually use skills in the appropriate range. ie protectors won’t lurk 10 feet behind the player and blow their riposte skill only to have it expire by the time they’ve toddled over to the designated mob.

I’d like to have seen them polish the soldiers first before unleashing them into the wider world.

But fair enough if they want to borrow the theory from swtor, after all the class quests there do kind of run in a similar way to the epic line in lotro after all.

Because I’m super-dumb, my Lore-Master’s skirmish companion is a Protector. Most of the time she works pretty well. I have a hobbit lass, because I love the idea of this tiny cute pigtailed girl beating the snot out of big nasty orcs. :)

It’s funny, though; she seemed to work great when the skirmish system was first launched. The only problem I had was when she’d get lost going down to / up from the Great Willow in “Trouble in Tuckborough.” (I don’t know what the issue is there – there aren’t a lot of obstacles in the area, but it’s 100% reproducible.)

As time has gone on, her AI has gotten worse. She gets lost or stuck more often, and she tends to wander away more frequently. When the system was released, she reliably stayed about ten meters ahead of the direction I face in. Now it’s rare that I can get her to stay within 30 meters. It makes it pretty hard to keep her from accidentally aggroing extra groups.
