Winner of the Skirmish Poetry Contest

December 24, 2011

Events

Earlier this week, Pineleaf started a poetry contest to give away Turbine Points as well as bragging rights to be in one of his famous skirmish guides!

Grand Prize Winner

We received some really wonderful poems about skirmishes. The winner of the 1600 Turbine Points and will be included in the guide.

Survival: Barrow Downs by Ardin Eckles!

Bones
Blocks of stone
Words and runes adorn
Among earth and thorns
Do not disturb the past
Rising dead protect the paths
At forest’s edge they lie
Waiting for more to die
How long they stood
Daring not to head back to the wood
Heroes made their stand at the spire
Now underground the dead retire
New guests join them; warnings unheeded
New barrows crypts; more stone is needed

Honorable Mentions

The following poems were selected as honorable mentions and will be included in the next edition of the skirmish guide for that skirmish.

Poems by Eluros Aabye

Attack at Dawn:

Graug and his goblins
Have discovered Esteldín.
Don’t let them escape!

Assault on the Ringwraith’s Lair:

East of the lands of Lorien
Lies Mirkwood and its denizens.
The Necromancer wills despair
Amidst the dreaded Ringwraith’s lair.
Here, allies of the Malledhrim
Will sacrifice their life and limb
To take the baileys from those clad
With power from Uluthiad.
Will the Cargûl lie defeated,
Daernad’s fiery breath depleted?
Those with boldness will determine
If Mirkwood can be unburdened.

Ford of Bruinen:

The Fords of Bruinen were won
By heroes and Elrond’s own sons.
They rescued the day
Through arrows and waves
All before the rise of the sun.

Poem by Bob Patterson:

The Haiku of Nurz Gashu:

Man, it’s hot down here
Golodir has lost his mind
what’s a fumarole?

Thank you everyone for entering!
