We know the LOTRO Community has some very talented writers as can be seen in our Lost Texts section of the site so I thought this would be worth a mention. November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).
The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Any of our friends interested in participating I certainly encourage you to sign up and take up the challenge!

I’ve been a writer (erm, someone who writes stuff anyway) for most of my life but an extreme lack of discipline often pushes this great art and discipline out of my life, so I rarely finish anything I write.
This is a great way to force some discipline into your writing life. I’m doing it and, even though I haven’t been keeping pace as I should, it’s already helping me to write a lot more than I have been. As long as my own baby hobbit doesn’t come into the world too soon I just might get this thing done!
Highly recommended!

I’d definetely be interested in what you write about shipwreck, so I’m cheering for you to finish that novel!!! When you’re done with it post it somewhere. I also have to tell you, I’m a big fan of LOTRO Beneath Your Feet even though it just started recently. Very well put together and a lot of fun to listen to. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the Forochel episode

Thanks, Aldarionn. That’s very kind of you to say!
I will be sure to post whatever I’ve written (be it novel-sized or no) at the end of the month on my personal blog. There’s some stuff up there now if you’d like to sneak a peak. It has been updated sporadically for the past year or so but there’s plenty to be read if you’re so inclined.

A few of my kinmates and I do NaNo every year, and this year is no exception.
It cuts into our play time a bit, but it’s such a great creative rush to tackle the 50k challenge with the community that’s sprung up around it.
There are local write-ins just about everywhere, IRC channels, forums, etc. If you’ve ever even had an inkling to try writing, it’s a great way to practice. And super fun!

My LOTRO time is going to suffer severely this month, I fear. I’m a “NaNo Rebel” this year (writing non-fiction instead of a novel), but things are going well as I’m already over 10k words so far! And I’m waiting for my copy of War in the North to get here, so I doubt I’ll get much LOTRO or NaNo time over the weekend.

Dang, Ketani. You are a machine!
This is a very bad week (month, actually) for me as it is my wife’s birthday, a holiday week, busy at work, and the baby is coming but I shall sally forth! I want to ready our stuff so post a linky, please.

I took part in NaNo a few years ago, and failed miserably.
I’m trying again this year and it’s going brilliantly so far. Hit 16,000 this evening, mainly thanks to a lot of planning I did in October. It’s made me fall in love with writing again, which I ironically lost whilst studying for my Creative Writing degree.
My LotRO time is taking a bit of a hit, but I’m using it as extra incentive to hit daily targets. I don’t allow myself to play until I hit my target.

Nanowrimo is great! Fun times!
Even if you aren’t happy with what you write, at least you wrote it

I have participated and hit the 50,000 word mark for the past three years. This year I am taking a group of my middle schoolers through it too. It’s a lot of fun. Thanks for posting, Goldenstar!

Ah, NaNo. This is my fifth year scribbling my November away, and I’ve always loved it – though after powering through 50K in two weeks my second year, I tend to aim for higher goals. This year – hoping to break a six digit wordcount! Past 10K as of yesterday, so we’ll see what ends up happening.
