Welcome to Pineleaf’s Pictorial Primer to Skirmishing. In this series, we will look at each of the skirmishes you can run in The Lord of the Rings Online™.
![]()
We will look at each skirmish in turn, including its scenario, layout, mobs, bosses, and encounters. We will also take a look at general aspects of skirmishes in the various appendices.
I will not be discussing strategy much, as that can vary based on your class and playing style. Any recommendations I make will be from the point-of-view of a hobbit warden. During my skirmishing runs, I will generally be accompanied by either a bannerguard or an archer.
All primers are available in PDF format for easy downloading, referencing or printing.

Thanks for the guides Pineleaf. I just started Skirmishing because I hear you talk about it on the show. Went through the Tutorial and the first two today. Then I remembered you had guides posted here, so I’m checking them out to see where I went wrong.
Thanks again for putting these together.

I found this guide after failing this skirmish 3 times (at level 56 with a fairly buffed up soldier). I breezed through most of the skirmish until that end boss. I’d start fighting him, then suddenly notice my morale was at about 15% and he had called in buddies with bows. I carefully read your guide, stocked up on banners for the last fight, and killed him quick after placing 5 banners. What a difference that made! I had not realized you could place multiple banners before. I also saw the description of that corruption (+30% damage) and realized that removing it was a high priority! Thanks for a thorough and useful guide!

Hey Pine, in the icy crevasse skirmish guide, check the picture on page 3, you left the same comment from the attack at dawn guide

Great guides! Do you think you could give us a bit more in-depth overview of the soldiers? Maybe talk about the strengths of each? What to look for when upgrading them (skills vs stats).
