Welcome to LOTRO Epic A Day, where I guide you on an epic journey through Middle-Earth, one day at a time. Each Book of the Epic quest is separated into its own Day, with Side-Days for leveling up to the next book. Gather up your belongings and hit the road, a new Day awaits!
The Gap of Rohan is a small region formed by the valley that separates Dunland from Nan Curunir. The Dunlendings and White Hand have set up a major encampment in the western portion of this region at Wulf’s Cleft while the Rohirrim have stationed themselves in the east at Forthbrond and Grimbold’s Camp. There is little in the way of permanent homes or festivities in this area; the people that have come to inhabit the Gap are here for one and only one reason: war.
Gap of Rohan Quest Hubs
Like Dunland, you will unlock a few quests in the series at a time, the next ones becoming available once you have finished all the previous quests (so be sure to check your log if you can’t find any new quests). The quest-deed areas have overlap here, however, as the Heathfells chain (the early quests in the Grimbold’s Camp series) begins in Forthbrond.
Tasks in the Gap of Rohan begin at level 71 and can be turned in up to and including max level 75. Tasks from both Forthbrond and Grimbold’s Camp are turned in to the Taskmaster in Forthbrond.
Forthbrond – Isendale (Rec 73-74): Théodred’s Rohirrim have established their main camp at Forthbrond (87.5 S, 7.4 W). There are quests, vendors, relic and forge-masters, a Stable-master, and a task board with high-level tasks (beginning at level 71). Ardwyn (87.1 S, 7.4 W) offers the initial quests for the Isendale. Additional quests can be gained by obtaining looted quest items from goblins near Isendale and Draig-lûth near Bróntrig. Cadfrith (87.1 S, 7.3 W) begins the Heathfells quests, which eventually lead to the Grimbold’s Camp quests and are completed towards the Heathfells quest deed. Heathfells loot-drop quest items come from orcs near the Pit of Iron and War Hounds to the west of the pit/north of the Heathfells.
Grimbold’s Camp (Rec 74): A second camp of Riders is located a short distance east of Forthbrond, just south of the entrance into Nan Curunír and Isengard (87.8 S, 3.9 W). The Heathfells/Grimbold’s Camp quest chain opens up after completing Cadfrith’s quests in Forthbrond. Once you have completed the Battle on Dol Baran, a quest-giving pick axe can be found just outside the Pit of Iron entrance (86.2 S, 3.8 W). Grimbold (87.4 S, 3.9 W) is bound by Théoden’s command and cannot enter Nan Curunir, so he asks us to go in his stead, beginning the level 75 quest line inside Nan Curunir that leads to Isengard. The Heathfells/Grimbold’s Camp quest chain opens up after completing quests in Forthbrond. This camp includes vendors, relic and forge-Masters, a Stable-master, and a task board. There is also a quartermaster who offers items restricted by reputation with Théodred’s Riders.
Individual NPCs
You will encounter several NPCs on their own in the Gap who offer quests (as long as you are at the appropriate point in the quest chain; continue the quest series until you are guided to them to find the quests).
86.9 S, 8.7 W – Cadthorn: Ardwyn ends us to Cadthorn, who asks us to defeat the goblins that attacked his party and reclaim their stolen equipment.
87.5 S, 11.9 W – Garrun: Garrun is scouting enemy encampments in the Isendale. Help him clear weaken the Dunlendings and wargs nearby. A Mysterious Note can also be found in the near vicinity for another quest (88.2 S, 12.3 W).
89.5 S, 8.5 W – Answith: Completing Garrun’s quests and he will send you to Answith, a Rohirrim scouting south of the Heathfells. He offers quests to free prisoners and recover weapons from Bróntrig, the Dunlendings’ nearby camp.
89.5 S, 11.1 W – Innoth: Innoth has witnessed Orc and Dunlending interactions from his potion along the southern bank in the Gap. He gives you the task of disrupting this cooperation by taking supplies and supply carts as well as defeating local orcs.
50.4 N, 92.7 W (Inside the Pit of Iron) – Ondor: After completing the Battle on Dol Baran during the Heathfells chain, you can use a pick-axe just outside the Pit of Iron entrance to begin a new quest chain. Ondor is a dwarf waiting inside the Pit for us, giving us quests to help the slaves and attack their goblin and orc masters inside the mine. After completing his quests Ondor will offer two repeatable quests (collecting whips from Orc slavers and finding strange ore) that can be completed for IXP and Théodred’s Riders reputation.
Gap of Rohan Reputation
In the Gap of Rohan you can earn reputation with Théodred’s Riders, a company of Rohirrim who have arrived to investigate and halt Saruman’s rise as well as deal with the Dunlendings’ increased aggression. Quests in the Gap (as well as in Dunland’s Gravenwood) help you earn reputation points, as do tasks (which can be completed by level 71-75 players. Rohirrim Quartermasters in Galtrev and Grimbold’s Camp offer rewards that include equipment and Tier 7 crafting recipes.

Excellent as always, but what happened to Levels 60 to 66? I believe you stopped the Epic a Day’s in the end of Moria then shifted gears to Dunland. Do you still plan to fill in the blanks?
Either way, top notch!!!

Like most level 65′s, Alpha was eager to head out to try out Isengard and so I told him it was ok if he wanted to post those side days as he was playing them. He does plan to finish Moria and the other epic quests but lets let the boy have some fun romping around the new zones for a while too

(Completing one of the Pit of Iron repeatables a second time will get you to 30 quests)
This is one thing that I find both surprizing and disapointing, including repeatable quests in a “Do X quests” deed seems rather lame on the part of the developers. To me it seems that either they forgot / didn’t have the time to include 1-3 more quests in the area and they didn’t change the deed back, or they left a rough placeholder number in the deed and launched it as is.
Well, thanks for the info anyway, I thought that doing the repeatable once would be enough … damn, I guess I’ll have to return to that invisible hole filled caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave (oops, I fell again)
