LOTRO Store

The following items are on sale from September 2-8th, 2011. Turbine sales run from midnight to midnight eastern.

tomesStat Tomes

Trolls pounding you into submission? Friends defeated because you can’t heal them fast enough? Then it may be time to upgrade your character’s Agility, Fate, Might, Vitality, or Will stats.
Get these stackable Tomes on sale now to prepare for Isengard!

Store Location: Character > Upgrades > Stats
Levels: All
295
236

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: Stat tomes are always popular items especially when on sale. 5 tiers of each type of stat tome with +10 each are available for a total stat boost of +50 for each stat. This is a purchase for 1 character only (not account wide).

These tomes can drop in game but they seem to be a bit on the rare-ish side. But it is an in-game option if you want to check the Auction House first. Note that you cannot apply a tier 2 stat tome until you’ve applied a tier 1, etc. I learned this when my Burglar won a tier 3 will tome in a lottery and wasn’t able to apply it.

Virtues

Custom-tailor your character’s strengths based on your play-style or fellowship need by equipping Virtues. Experience increased morale and power, mitigate various damage types, and more!

Store Location: Character > Upgrades > Virtues
Levels: 7+
295
236

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: These get a “meh” simply because you can earn these in the game grinding them via the deed system. A nice short-cut to a long grind but not a necessary purchase. If grinding is the thing that gets on your nerves then no harm in buying them at all.

Speaking of virtues, you should check out Ketani’s post about virtues in Rise of Isengard!

Trait Slots

Customize and make your character more powerful by unlocking additional Virtue, Class, Race or Legendary Trait Slots to use with your virtues, traits and legendary abilities.

Store Location: Character > Upgrades > Trait Slots
Levels: 11+
95-195
76-156

CSTM RECOMMENDATION: First it’s important to note that this is only for free and premium players. VIPS have access to all their virtue, class, race and legendary trait slots, however they unlock at specific levels so it may not look like they are not available.

These may not be an important buy at the earlier levels but those nearing end game will want to consider buying these. They are like equipping additional stats that otherwise you’ll be missing out on. I’ll make a guess and say they may start coming in pretty handy around the level 40+ range.

For more information on the usefulness of virtues, see Ketani’s article “Are Virtues Worth the Grind?” or her latest post on Virtue Changes in Isengard.

Oooh, stat tomes! My RK won a Vitality 5 tome in an Annuminas run a while back, so I’ve been hoping for a sale on the first four tomes. :D

Since I’ve been gone a while, I’ve got a question about sales. Is there a pattern to them? As someone who works retail I know that most sales are run in patterns ranging from quarterly to yearly. Anyone figured out Turbine’s pattern?

Well we don’t technically have a year of data yet to see a pattern (F2P and the store launched last year in September).

However things I do seem to see a re-occuring are points bundle deals typically pop up around holidays and special events like Labor Day, Fourth of July, etc here in the U.S. or PAX East back in March.

Weekly deals certainly are different from last year. Now they typically have a theme and have 3 items on sale. Earlier sales are a bit more scattered and varied and could have 6 items on sale in a week. In this week’s case there is a lot on sale (all the virtues, all the trait slots) but they’re grouped into a sale offer “Virtues 20% off”.

Turbine Tuesdays appear to be gone for good where they would have a 1 day sale. We saw those start early in the year and died out by spring time.

So no distinct pattern yet but I can tell you I have recently seen repeat sales (because I can go copy and paste my recommendation – yay being lazy!). Recent skirmish and storage sales have been offered in that exact same way previously so hopefully a pattern is about to emerge!

turbine tuesdays were nice… and so were the lotteries! any idea if those are ever coming back? or have they also gone the way of the dodo?

the lotteries were disabled just before the EU merger and were planned to be turned of when the servers were stable enough to support them/my.lotro could catch up on everything. mylotro seems to be working fine now, so i’d guess they’ll turn lotteries back on about a month after isengard goes live.

I played in the clesot beta of LOTRO, but never tried the Lore-master back then. My first character after beta was a dwarf champion, which I loved. But then I took a long break. When I returned a few years later, I couldn’t remember how to play my class at all so I played an Elf lore-master and fell in love with the class. That LM remains my main character and is the only one I have at level 65. My highest level alt, my champion, is in his 30s.
