International Talk Like A Pirate Day be Monday, September 19th! This be a special day that Turbine likes to have fun with as well including the in-game event Tale of the Shipwrecked Mariner.
Head out to the shores of the Brandywine near the Brandywine Bridge on the Bree-land side to find some quests pertaining to this event! It is active now!
There are also additional goodies in the LOTRO Store celebrating being a pirate such as eye patches and pirate hats. All the fashion rage for the middle-earth pirate.
I do suggest you run through the events before rushing out to buy these items as most (possibly all) can be obtained by the event quartermaster.
This event is not on the community calendar but this even typically runs from September 17th through 21st. Do not delay though in case it shuts down earlier!

I was very disappointed with this event last year. If it’s no different this year, I see no reason to participate.
I can’t get any confirmation that anything is different.
September 17, 2011 at 7:11 pm
There’s no change. I suspect the treasure hunt was supposed to be part of this event, but it’s not on because of the feedback given when it was last available on Bullroarer.
September 17, 2011 at 8:13 pm
The original announcement was that The Treasure Hunt was to occur between the Spring and Summer festivals.

I agree that players should run the event before making a purchase. There may be some avoidin’ you have to do, but I can’t recall any killin’ necessary. It might be time consuming for some, but buying the stuff isn’t necessary.
September 17, 2011 at 6:20 pm
ARRRRRRR… I be wanting an eye patch!
September 17, 2011 at 6:46 pm
You can easily take a lvl 6 to get the stuff… if you like swimming up the Brandywine from the Bridge to the Ship. Takes time but can be done just stay to the middle of the river.

The only item appearance that you can’t obtain in game at this time is the corsair outfit. It comes from anniversary gift boxes. ; The others are all on the barter.
The ‘rare’ level based versions, do not have any different cosmetic utility and are bound on acquire.
September 18, 2011 at 1:15 am
I managed to pick up the corsair outfit about a week ago via Chest of Chance (I love those chests!) from repeating New Devilry (not really a fan of repeating the Lost Treasury for only two tokens), and doing a couple of the Moria skirms and bartering for the Chance chest.
Managed to score a First Mate’s Eyepatch from one of the chesties along the Brandywine – fun little event!
September 18, 2011 at 9:12 am
Just an FYI – most tailors can make the corsair outfit as a cosmetic.
September 18, 2011 at 9:43 am
Most? I wouldn’t
be too sure of that, at least on the newer servers.. I think the recipes to make them were part of the flower quests which haven’t been live since F2P launch.
September 19, 2011 at 11:24 am
I am a GM tailor and I don’t have that recipe.. I WOULD LOVE to craft it though!
September 17, 2011 at 8:07 pm
Thanks for explaining this — I haven’t been in game yet to check this out, but I saw the @lotro tweet about this yesterday and I was very confused. Pirates in M-E?
September 18, 2011 at 11:36 am
The movies glossed over it but the Pirates of Umbar were in the third book.

Is there a guide for the event? Not quite sure where it starts and how wide an area it covers.
The turbine link doesn’t really say anything.
September 17, 2011 at 8:28 pm
It is very small and short. Go to the camp by the brandywine bridge and that’s all there is.
September 17, 2011 at 10:22 pm
Ah I see. So I got it all then. Thanks for info.
September 17, 2011 at 8:31 pm
can somebody post the amount of Bottles of ales and Barrels of Cram that one needs to collect to barter for the goodies please? thanks
September 17, 2011 at 9:03 pm
It’s 25 Bottles and 10 Barrels for each of the three available items. Hat & Patch/Hat Alone/Patch Alone.
September 17, 2011 at 9:04 pm
Much appreciated!
September 17, 2011 at 9:16 pm
Remember, there are a few items you can barter for, but every “Waterlogged Locker” you find has a non-cosmetic only piece (yellow or purple armor) and a chance at critical success items, ore, money, etc. Those spawn at random along the river, too. There doesn’t seem to be any fixed locations. ALSO, you can collect the ale and cram on any toon and transfer it via shared storage to another character (as the bartered items are non-transferrable themselves, but can always be placed into a wardrobe). I even had ale and cram saved from last year and it did stack and was usable this year.
September 18, 2011 at 5:23 am
Ooo, I didn’t realize the barter items could be transferred. I was disappointed when I got a BoA eyepatch, and gave up on the event.
September 18, 2011 at 5:30 pm
The items you barter FOR cannot be transferred, but the items you use to barter WITH (the kegs of cram and bottles of ale) CAN be transferred to another character.

I remember when people would stockpile the hats & sell them for crazy prices(5-10 gold) on the AH. Not sure if that still happens since you can buy them in the store nowadays. Also the corsair outfit can be crafted & sold by tailors, sometimes shows up on the AH for a mere 250 silver. I used to craft it myself, don’t know where the recipe came from.
September 18, 2011 at 1:39 am
everything binds to account after you barter for them so there is not going to be any AH sales later
September 18, 2011 at 5:06 am
Harr! I ‘ave me ‘at an me eyepatch!
Yar!
Now swab the decks yer scurvy sons of seahags!
September 18, 2011 at 9:27 am
I would like it if they added more items to the rewards. Some suggestions might be a pirate hook (glove slot), a treasure box you can carry around like Prized Pie, a parrot (shoulder slot), a captain’s robe, etc. It wouldn’t have to be much, but enough to entice player participation.
I ran this with a bunch of kinnies last night. When one of them told us what the prizes were the collective response waa, “That’s it??”
September 18, 2011 at 9:44 am
i think really we have to do our own pirate content. i mean, there’s inn of the forsaken, turtle, and the kraken- i mean watcher.
September 18, 2011 at 11:06 am
I headed upriver with my little level 20 runekeeper, picking up kegs, bottles and the occasional eyepatch/hat. After that long long trek, I was utterly dissapointed when I got back and turned in the quest and looked what the barter vendor had……. oh well, got the bottles and kegs stored in my vault incase something actually worthwhile gets added next year…
September 19, 2011 at 4:53 am
I already had the Hat+Eyepatch, and Eyepatch from store sales.(Didn’t know there was an in-game way to get them till now.)
So i got the Hat, completed the quest(which gave no title or anything at all), and I guess I’m done. Now I wish I had known about this event and saved my TP I wasted. *shrug*
ARRRRR! Hop to it men! Hoist that mainsail!
All my hobbit pirate needs now is a little rowboat with a tiny pirate flag on it, and he’d be the scourge of the brandywine! Gimme them pies, ye landlubbers!
