A couple of months ago we sent out a post on Facebook and Twitter asking people what plugins they found to be a must, and without doubt Mouse Cursor Highlighter Advanced was one of the most popular ones that was listed. And although I had personally never used it before this, I was aware of the plugin and decided to give it a try.
The purpose of the plugin is to provide a better visual indicator (a highlighter) of where the mouse is on your screen. For those of you who have tried to target different mobs with the mouse in the middle of a fight there’s a good chance that you have had difficulty locating just where your mouse may be; and this plugin does a lot to eliminate that problem. I’ve also seen a lot of requests over the years to have the option to increase the mouse size, and while this plugin doesn’t fulfill that function entirely it does resolve the issue of increasing the cursor’s visibility.
While I’m not certain this plugin will make my list of everyday used plugins, I am going to keep it active for combat for now; and I think everyone should give it a try.

I use another mouse cursor plugin but this one is great! I could never find that blasted thing when a fight is on. So much stuff on the screen, that tiny little sword becomes all but invisible. Great plugin and great walkthrough, Merric!

What I would like it to do would be to change color depending on what Im mousing over but that might not be possible with the current api?

Currently I don’t believe that is possible, but I do agree that would be a cool addition if it ever opens up far enough.

This earned an immediate download. Ever since I upgraded my computer, I have been having trouble finding my mouse cursor during combat.

For those of us that use the mouse for skills, this is pretty useless cause we always are watching the cursor, yet for those that don’t this is a perfect plugin. It fixes the problem and that’s it. The definition of Occum’s Razor a.k.a Keep it simple.

Agreed. I myself I don’t use the mouse for skills for the most part (although I do for some) so when I suddenly need to manually target something it gets confusing.

A must-have when you run two monitors and Synergy to a laptop. I was losing my mouse all the time until I discovered this little gem.
I especially like that I was able to tweak it so it’s noticeable but not in the way.

That’s a great use of it! I hadn’t even thought about the application of it in a multi-box environment, but you’re right it would be great for that! Good call!

Control Panel/Mouse/Mouse Properties/Pointer Options/
Checkbox: Show Location of Pointer when I press CTRL key.
No plug-in necessary. Works everywhere in your Windows environment, too.

Thanks for this review Merric! I used to have a mouse visibility plugin back when I played WoW and I missed having it here in LotRO. I will be downloading and installing this one asap. It must have not existed yet when i was originally plugin-hunting back in last fall/winter of last year.
Currently I had rigged up a visibility helper by running lotro in windowed mode (but maximized) and turning on the “mouse trails” option in the windows control panel (and setting the trail to a long one). When I lose my cursor I just wiggle the mouse and find it. But this plugin will work much better than that.

So near, and yet so far: it’s a pointer colour changer I’d really like, for use in Forochel and the Misty Mountains (there are probably other problem locations, but those are the two which stand out). I don’t *think* I need a constant background pointer, and would find it intrusive, although I’ll give this a go. Ideally, I want something bound to a key, but not the control key as Lannadhor suggests: I use that regularly anyway, as a keyboard player. And not in shortcuts (although I see that would be possible), as I don’t have two slots free in my Alts toolbars.
Also curious to see what Narnian uses, on the off chance it addresses my specific objections.

Hello! Nice review. I was wondering, how did you make your screen bigger when you focused on the display panel for the plugin? I have a friend who is visually impaired who plays LOTRO and has a terrible time seeing the quest text and such. Being able to zoom in like that would really come in handy for him.

I have really enjoyed all your videos and they have been a strong selling point… I have managed to install (and have been using) Palantir and Tonicbars (could not live without that one!) – Now I am ready to get the buffbars and the newest mouse highlighter (I do lose my mouse during combat and it is very embarrassing!)
any ideas? Appreciate any advice.

I have read the information on the forums… I have read the information at the download site… (lotrointerface)… I have read their FAQ (written by IT people for other IT people – Not peabrains like myself) – I have watched your installation videos – by far the easiest to understand and follow… I have done what is shown step by step…. but I still can’t get either one to load

hey just wondering just started to play this game where the cursor on the game it a pain to play the game with out it,i typed what it says in the video but does not work is there something im missing? or need to download? someone help me please thanks
