Episode 103: PAX and Isengard

In this episode, we have two special guests pop on to give us some LOTRO information from PAX so thank you very much to Alphaman and Chris from LOTRO Reporter for their time!

In other news, the NDA has been lifted and we can now talk about beta information!

Merric discusses his hands on beta experiences with Draigoch. He also has a special thank you Amblebras for his assistance getting Merric his major class items for his Warden.

Goldenstar is in beta as well but didn’t have anything nearly as cool as dragon raiding to report. Her new level 40s Monday group has started and she’s having a great time!

I just wanted to thank you for your podcast. I recently found your podcast and have been listening to past episodes as I grind out deeds for Turbine Points. I am currently working on getting enough Turbine Points to get the Angmar quest pack. Listening to your podcast is keeping me sane, so I thank you very much! =D

Good afternoon Goldenstar and Merric,

I’ve been following your blog and podcast for a few months now, and I was extremely excited when I realised your 100th show was coming up – and there was going to be a party! I didn’t quite froth with rage when I realised I couldn’t make it, but it was close. For this reason, I had put off listening to the podcast of the anniversary show. I finally gave in today and I sure am glad I did. I loved the beginning of the podcast where you had all the introduction by all of the Big Name people. The whole thing was great, of course, but that made me giggle out loud.

So I wanted to add in my congratulations to two years and 100 episodes. It is an amazing milestone that you have reached. The tenacity and determination (aka stubborness) required to keep going is remarkable, and that you have managed to keep going while still being informative and amusing is an amazing acheivement (not to mention, having jobs and raising a child).

Goldenstar, thanks for making sure stuff gets done. Merric, thanks for the stuff you do.

Cheers,
Kelly

Hey Goldenstar and Merric,

Great to meet your 40s Burglar. Although her manners are questionable: one of our wipes started when she sneaked across the room from us and invited my minstrel to run through agro to get pie.

I wanted to email in and say I find a casual stroll to mordor exceptionally useful. Specifically, the New Player Advice guides and the podcast roundtables. I read and listened a bunch when I first started and still check back with those articles periodically. I am truly a casual player, meandering my way through the game. But I’ll get there eventually!

Meanwhile, I’m not much for forums but I love podcasts about my hobbies. Therefore, I find yours useful and hope you’ll keep up with the occasional hat tip to free-to-play people, especially the comments about available/unavailable content as new stuff comes out from Turbine. I’ll keep playing and I’ll keep listening.

p.s. Send more pie anytime!

Dear Merric and Goldenstar

A couple of weeks ago you asked us when we started listening to your podcast. I know it was when I first heard of the “Fellowship Walk 2010”. I really liked you project. I send you a small amount of money and wanted to learn more about your blog and podcast, so I surfed around and got hooked. Now this looking back on your charming walk suddenly woke an idea in my mind: How about I make a series of lectures in my school, guiding my students through Book One of the Lord of the Rings (mainly e-book – my students are dyslexic) and then make them familiar with LOTRO and guide them to the nice places in The Shire, and later walk the path of Frodo, step by step following our progress in the book, and eventually watching the correspondent parts of the movie. I made a plan and found that 8 lectures would just fit. I announced it when our students got to pick what lectures to attend in the next 8 weeks, and today I did my first lecture “A Hobbitjourney through book, game and movie part one: An intro to Middle-Earth and LOTRO”. Thank you for your inspiration. I just can’t wait till next Friday…

Moryel

Hey Goldenstar & Merric,

I’m back! After a year away from LotRO, I have finally returned to the game. It was nice to discover that the chat channels weren’t full of childish gibberish and that CStM was still going strong. Co
ngrats on reaching 100 episodes. With my return to the game I’ve decided that I will go back to playing my Hunter mostly because I can’t remember how to do anything with my Warden. :( If you know of any kinships on the Silverlode server that have room for a Hunter who enjoys hitting things with a sword way too much, I’m looking for a kin. Thanks for all you do and I look forward to hanging out in the chat room again for the live broadcasts.

Apparently none of the links on the town crier works. I don’t know if this is a problem in my end only

In response to Moryel, feel free to look me up over on Silverlode if you have questions (Anawyne, Iothelion, or Iothryth mainly). You might also check out the Fat Smokin Hobbits as they’re a pretty large and friendly kinship. I have my Champion in their kin but haven’t been on her much at all lately.

Thanks, Doc, I may hit you up for some Warden advice. I’ve been reading the stuff on your blog about the class and its been helping me a lot. Thanks for the kin suggestion too, I will look into them.

Also in response to Moryel, other kinships are likely to pipe in here but I would like to say a word for my own kinship, Gurth an Glamhoth. We’re a small, but friendly kin. Contact me in-game if you want to chat.

Bit disappointed that freeps wont get to pvmp at all. Was hoping for somekind of weekend only thing at least.

Been trying to skip about the podcast to find the bit about store bought creep-skills (and failing) but it did kind of sound like low ranks could just blow some cash and upgrade without effort, or dare I say it “skill”. I quite like the cash shops in f2p games but if turbine were to bring in a pay to win aspect to items then I’d be pretty unimpressed as that could be the top of a slippery slope.
