This week we have another “Determine Your Discount” sale that is active from August 25th until August 29th, 2011.
How this works depends on what you buy. The more you are buying, the bigger the discount you could receive. You do not have to buy the items on sale to use these discount codes. It totally depends on the total in your cart when your ready to check out.
| Spend At Least: | Discount: | Coupon Code: |
| 500 Turbine Points | 5% | LOTRODYD5 |
| 1,500 Turbine Points | 15% | LOTRODYD15 |
| 3,000 Turbine Points | 30% | LOTRODYD30 |
There is a limit of 5 uses of these coupon codes per account. This is important to note if you wanted to buy a lot of character-only items for multiple characters are each character would have a separate transaction and would be using one of your code uses.
Mostly we see sales sit at around 20% off on average. There are some random sales that offer more but this 30% off deal is a way to get some quest packs or dungeons/skirmishes you’ve been wanting for a discount greater than we typically see on sales.
Here are some scenarios:
The ways to mix and match what you need to the total are pretty endless but here’s some scenarios on how to use this sale to help you get a good deal!
Path of the Fellowship Example
Add into your cart:
- Path of the Fellowship – 2,950 TP
- Writ of Special Passage: 1-Hour – 50 TP
Total = 3,000 Turbine Points
Use 30% off discount code and your total drops to 2,100 Turbine Points. 28% off the full price of the Path of the Fellowship!
New Dungeons and Skirmishes Example
Add into your cart:
- Dungeon: Inn of the Forsaken – 395 TP
- Dungeon: Halls of Night – 395 TP
- Skirmish: Icy Crevasse – 395 TP
- Skirmish: Attack at Dawn – 395 TP
Total = 1,580 TP
Use 15% off discount code and pay only 1,343 TP – 15% off.
Note that the Skirmish Bundle available is a better deal at 19% off for the 2 new skirmishes but you can only buy the bundle if you don’t already own any of the skirmishes in the bundle and Thievery and Mischief is included in that bundle. This could be a decent alternative if you are shut out of that deal.
To date we haven’t seen a sale on the new dungeons of Inn of the Forsaken or Halls of Night.
Storage Example
Being able to use this discount with items already on sale gives you a pretty good discount as well! Storage is on sale this week and just a note that vault purchases are per character – not account.
In this example we will be purchasing the first set of Shared Storage, the 2 extra Vault (upgrades 6-7) as the rest can be bought in game, 1 extra inventory bags and the currency cap unlock and a some deed accelerators! You can mix and match what you need to try to reach the same goal of 30% off.
NOTE THE STORAGE SALE STARTS ON FRIDAY AUGUST 26 – DO NOT USE BEFORE THEN
- Shared Storage 20 Initial Slots – 795 TP
- Vault Upgrade 6 – 636 TP
- Vault Upgrade 7 – 716 TP
- Extra Inventory Bag – 396 TP
- Currency Cap Removal – 316 TP
- Slayer Deed accelerator: 15 min – 50TP
- Slayer Deed accelerator: 45 min – 100 TP
Total = 3,009 TP
Use 30% off discount code and pay only 2,098 TP (rounding up). 30% off of the sales price however if I figure at their full (not sale) price the total would be 3,725 TP so your total savings using the sale plus the code is 43%!
If slayer deed accelerators aren’t your thing there are other items at the 150 price point such as Tome of Revival, task limit increase, housing items, cosmetics, emote bundles or go for a 100 TP and 50 TP priced item like the slayer deeds if you prefer.
Take a look at the LOTRO Store listing on LOTRO-Wiki to try to find that last item that will peak you over for the discount! Make sure you double check the cost before purchasing though. Remember Wiki’s are community updated.
The options are too numerous to display here. Find a good item combination to get in on this sale? Share it in the comments below!

What’s really upsetting about this, to me, is I JUST upgraded to VIP for a month, an hour before I saw this… Now I won’t be getting the two regions I wanted. Oh, well. I’ll wander through the store and see if they have anything else I want.
I wasn’t aware that the sales could be combined, either. That’s interesting.

I reccommend purchasing a potion of restoration to get over the limit, its the cheapest item in the store at just 7tp (its pretty useless though), perfect for quest packs (i just bought Angmar and Enedwaith)

I’m sorry Goldenstar but your Storage Example sadly does not work
You can only add Vault Upgrade 6 in the shopping cart and apply the coupon code for this purchase.
Vault Upgrade 7 only becomes available if you have bought Vault Upgrade 6.
Same for Shared Storage or Inventory Bags.

Sadly I can confirm this. If it doesnt all go into your shopping cart at once, there’s nothing you can do.

Thanks. That’s a bummer but the principal is there to get a good deal.

I would recommend not buying anything. As soon as these sales start, two weeks later a major new item comes. A new mount, special relics, ect ect. Besides, you should be saving your points for Isenguard upgrades and items soon!

An easy way to jump up towards the 3000 TP mark in a single overall purchase to get the 30% off is to get the stat tome bundles.(only way to buy more than one of a stat tome at once for a single stat is with the bundles)
Stat tomes normally only go on sale for 20%, so it is a great way to get a better deal than usual on the ever-popular stat tomes.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Turbine is trying to get people to use all their Turbine Points before Rise of Isengard is released?

I think you’re right Shaun, I just spent over 5k in one transaction getting all the stat tome bundles, a shared storage and a vault upgrade.
Would have cost me 8k otherwise though so good deal
