Today is the official kick off of summer and the start of the in-game summer festival for The Lord of the Rings Online.

There’s plenty to do and see in this festival such as Hobbit and Dwarf races and lots of fishing. You can bet on an updated 2011 Summer Festival Guide from CSTM later after we’ve had a chance to play in the new festival.

Until then you are welcome to look at the 2010 guide to get a handle on what summer festival entails!

Don’t they usually make an announcement or have a splash screen up for a couple of weeks prior to all the festivals? It seems like this one just kind of snuck up on us.

The festival dates for June have been written in on the Community Calendar on the LOTRO site for about week now. That’s where I always look.

So exciting! Can’t wait to rush all across Middle-Earth carrying booze to people, like some fantasy version of the Dukes of Hazzard.

The two festival horses are on display at the Hengstacer Farm for those that are anxious to see what they look like.

Bad news: They’re selling keg race tokens; Good news; They’ve forgotten to populate them to the store so you can’t buy them.

You can currently get 4 tokens/2hr still though (2 from each quest, they’re on separate 2hr repeat timers.)

The new horse is sort of an albino version of the Spring Horse. It has a pale grey skin. It’s an exact copy of the Spring Horse with the same deck, only the colouring is different, darker green with orange. I like my Spring Horse better to be honest, at least he’s got blue eyes!

No bridle — apparently you control this one with your knees only. 0.o

Several of the newer horses are missing bridles, which is the only thing that really bothers me about them. Just seems like a *critical* detail that was missed for no reason I can think of aside from laziness. (Since only elves can ride without tack, and they’d leave off the saddle as well as the bridle anyway!)

    Yay festival! :D

I hope there are some new things this year. It’s always nice when they add a random new event. :)

For the racial fireworks collection quest given by the bree fields festival NPC, you can immediately turn in the quest without worrying about the timer if you buy the fireworks beforehand.

Is anyone having a heck of a time with the horse races this time around? I had them down pretty pat for the last two festivals but its seems like this time they keep glitching on me. For example just a moment ago, I made the first ramp jump in Bree and was told I got a speed boost, but instead it slowed me down!

I get that a lot. It happens if you make the jump but then drop off the wood bridge before the end on the other side. Annoying I know.

I love fishing quests! It’s the only time all year that I fish in lotro.

Try this… bet on a hobbit race and make sure you keep track of the winner. If your hobbit loses, return to the race vendor and immediately bet on the hobbit that won. Boom… you’ll get the win and the six tokens! Guaranteed way to at least make six tokens for the two free race tokens you get per day. Don’t know if this is a glitch, or if it works in the Keg race – my dwarf did a Usain Bolt impression and left all others far behind for the easy win! Two races, 12 tokens, with one left over race token – not bad…

Yes it does work on the kegs, as long as you turn in before the next race, it does not seem to matter how quickly you get the safe bet down, just make sure you know who won the race before your safe bet.

ok its gotta be broken on further review, you don’t even have to make a total guess bet, just wait to see the results and place your bet down… Humm wasn’t that the scam in The Sting? Newman and Redford would be sooo proud!

ok FInal update, the timing is important, you must bet on the winner before the runners complete the race. When the race starts, the bet taker npc despawns, he respawns once the race winner wins, he will take bets on the outcome untill all 4 npcs complete the race.
