Summer Festival is running this year from June 21 – July 12, 2011 . This guide is here to help you find all the events available. The currency of this festival is the Summer Festival Token. Collecting these can help you buy the goodies listed in the rewards section below.
The big events for the Summer Festival are the Hobbit and Dwarf races and the fishing quests. There are other quests available in case these two aren’t your cup of tea.
The quests are mostly broken up into four major regions in Middle Earth. These are where you will find the festival vendors as well as other festival activities.
- Bree Festival Grounds (24.7S, 51.6W Breeland)
- Thorin’s Hall (13.48S, 103.2W Thorin’s Gate) – in the underground Tavern
- Duillond (24.6S, 93.1W Ered Luin)
- Shire Party Tree (29.85S, 71.48W Shire)
What is not included in this guide
The festivals of Middle Earth include certain quests that appear with each and every festival. Please see our guide on these General Festival Quests for help with those events. This would include the
- Dance Quests
- Horse Race
- Summer to Fall Farming Quest
- Inn League quests
- Ale Association quests
What is different from last year?
There is very little different from last year. There are a few new deeds, more cartographile maps to collect and a few new collection quests available. There are some slight alterations to the Hobbit and Dwarf races.
New this year is the option to buy race tokens in the LOTRO Store. The tokens cost 75 Turbine Points each.
I cannot think of a more wasteful use of money! All you’re buying is a ticket with a 25% chance to win. The festival is open for nearly a month and there are other ways to collect tokens that don’t require you to spend your real cash.
My suggestion to you is NOT to buy tokens in the store. You can get tokens in game from both the Shire and Thorin’s Hall NPC every 2 hours and it’s free.

There are two mounts available this year. I did look to see if the 2009 horse was available in the store but I did not see it. Not sure if this is planned or if it will simply be added later.

Wow. This is an intense guide for the first day in. The Golden Tree Summer Cloak is the only thing I’m going after this festival. Great job Goldenstar.
June 22, 2011 at 12:24 am
Thanks!
June 22, 2011 at 12:37 am
Great work to get this out so quick.
June 22, 2011 at 1:10 am
Absolutely amazing! You’ve done it again Goldenstar great work! I want to thank you for taking the time to do this I’m sure it was pain staking. This guide is 10/10 u shld have merric
June 22, 2011 at 1:11 am
Do the nxt one!
. Like that will ever happen
June 22, 2011 at 1:34 am
Like all of your guides, this is great and very helpful. I’ve actually been waiting all day to see this so I could compare my information with what you have and see what’s going on.
A few things that in my experience differ from what you have:
1. I didn’t get the “Happy Summer” deed from logging in today. I logged in with my main (a champion) and my new alt (a burglar) and neither got this.
2. I only received 6 tokens for winning in either of the two races (your guide says that one wins 12 tokens for the keg races and 6 for the food races).
June 22, 2011 at 6:20 am
Unfortunate about the Happy Summer deed but thank you for the information.
June 22, 2011 at 1:38 am
Thanks for the guide – I’ve been festival’ing up a storm today! I love the fishing – it’s a nice break from the regular game. I’m also definitely interested in several of the decorations, like the summer welcome mat and the summer hammock (my first festival was Fall, so this is my last “new” festival, personally). The maps are an obvious choice…hopefully I can team up with some kinnies to swap those around.
Hopefully, if the lottery is back up during the festival, they’ll have lotteries for summer tokens to help fuel picking up some of the consumables and get those special deeds rolling. Are they hidden until I complete, or will it display my progress as I use them? Cheers!
June 22, 2011 at 6:19 am
After using the consumable the deed will appear in your deed log.
June 22, 2011 at 2:02 am
I think you may be off on the rewards for Forgotten Errands and Missing Things. I don’t remember what they are, but I certainly didn’t receive any recipes.
June 22, 2011 at 4:09 am
I did those last night, and if I remember correctly they each gave one summer token, just like the other collector quests.
June 22, 2011 at 6:18 am
Yes thank you. I had corrected the listing for the shire but not those two. This has been fixed.
June 22, 2011 at 2:03 am
Question on the consumables: If you buy 300 worth but use them throughout the year, will you get the permanent item at that time? As in, do I have to use them during summerfest to get it?
June 22, 2011 at 6:14 am
No you can do them anytime and it will increment the deed. People actually found the deed before summerfest started.
June 22, 2011 at 2:05 am
There was also a farming festival quest in the Shire that was very mysterious — you were asked to plant a bunch of mushroom spores and then you were told that you wouldn’t receive the final reward until the Fall festival!
It was only available for Farmer crafters.
June 22, 2011 at 2:42 am
Dan, that’s the Black Mushroom Pot (housing decoration) quest. You plant in the Summer and return in the Fall to get the item.
The Lothlorien and Caras Galadhon maps are not part of the Cartographile deed because that’s only for Eriador maps, as you already know. I asked on the forums if they might implement a Rhovanion deed for these maps at some point; hopefully a Turbinite will answer. I have all four of the new maps and took screen-shots: http://photobucket.com/lotrowallmaps (I hope the link works, does for me).
June 22, 2011 at 6:15 am
I actually have the mushroom pot quest included in the general festival guide since it spans past the Summer Festival.
June 22, 2011 at 3:17 am
Awesome guide! Thank you for putting out all this effort for the community. It is highly appreciated! Your cosmetics preview look even better than last year. Excellent resource. /bow
June 22, 2011 at 3:51 am
Awesome guide and so quick too! Thanks again, Goldenstar
Just one thing – the pop-up lorebook link for the Summer Festival Token in para 1 actually links to the Spring Leaf token from the Spring Fest
June 22, 2011 at 6:15 am
Thank you fixed. I swore I did fix it but then again the internet hated me last night. I will not go into detail all the trials I faced trying to write this guide!
June 22, 2011 at 4:06 am
By the way, I noticed that on my game Splash Screen it says the festival is until July 11th. On the Forums it is said until July 12th and on the Community Calendar it is until July 13th! I wonder which date is correct…
June 22, 2011 at 6:08 am
The calendar will give a date according to what time zone you have the forums set to, of course. Depending on what time they have it set to shut off, it could well be the 13th for some countries (my calendar says the 12th). As for the splash screen saying the 11th, that may have been the original date? I didn’t make note of it before the dates disappeared from the calendar so I can’t be sure.
“Reminder: Times displayed in the Community Calendar are based on your local time zone and may or may not reflect the exact start and end times/dates. “
June 22, 2011 at 6:18 am
The note on the community calendar listing said until the 12th. These things typically start and stop on a Tuesday so that is why I went with that date.
June 22, 2011 at 4:16 am
Hi guys – great guide, so thanks for you hard work with that. My question is about the Inn Association Quests – it is unlikely that I’ll have chance to complete them all this week so will they “roll over” to the next festival so I can one day get Inn Assoc. Kindred?
June 22, 2011 at 5:51 am
Yes – any reputation progress you are able to make with either faction will remain, even if you do not reach kindred with that faction during the festival. The only way you will lose reputation with ABC faction is if you are doing a quest for the XYZ faction which adds XYZ reputation, but subtracts ABC reputation.
June 22, 2011 at 7:04 am
Wonderful! Thank you – that means I don’t have to knock myself out this week
June 22, 2011 at 4:28 am
One deed is missing from the guide. It’s new this year, and I only noticed it because my champ completed the race deed last year for the Lucky duck title. So, if you win 3times with every contestant in both races, you get the /heave emote. It’s a bit insane…
I found nothing about this on forums/lorebook, but it’s definitely in my deedlog. Only this:
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Item:Grant_Heave_Emote
June 22, 2011 at 5:27 am
Thanks for the guide!
This festival is a quite fun, despite lots of tokens necessery for the many deeds. Also, there are deeds for winning three times with each food/drink race participiant, and a meatadeed for doing both deeds, that gives a new emote as a reward.
June 22, 2011 at 6:03 am
The 2 races in the Shire and Thorins Hall are auto win, IF you wait to the see who wins the race and THEN pick the winning runner as your selection. It must be done before they despawn, as long as the runners are active you can select a winner as soon as the race is completed and the race npc respawns.
June 22, 2011 at 6:04 am
ohh and where are the map venders located?
June 22, 2011 at 6:36 am
The part about the maps does mention the vendors who hold them. The Provisioners. If you mean where they are located in game, look slightly above that in the guide for the list of barterers in the rewards section.
June 22, 2011 at 12:35 pm
I will have to try that, would be great to win every time! Thanks for the tip.
June 22, 2011 at 1:22 pm
I can confirm that this works. Thanks so much!
June 22, 2011 at 6:08 am
Isn’t this year’s mount veeery similar to the spring mount for this year?
June 22, 2011 at 6:17 am
It is very similar with different coloring
June 22, 2011 at 6:39 am
I noticed something in the advertisement page for the festival, in the bit about the Ale Association and Inn League: “… Garner reputation as you complete tasks for your chosen faction, but remember you’ll lose favor with the opposing side. The consequences are now greater than ever!”
Does anyone know what these greater-than-ever consequences are? I’ve been looking, but so far cannot find anything.
June 22, 2011 at 7:56 am
Faction vendors offer the same things at the same prices, daily challenges and quests are offering the same rep changes as before as well: +1200/+0 & +900/-500. It doesn’t look like there are any of those advertised greater-than-ever consequences. They seem to be same-old consequences to me. Too bad, I got excited over possible changes. *^_^*
June 22, 2011 at 7:52 am
The fishing quests give you a token per 4 quest fish. However that trader only gives you 2 tokens for the ‘special’ quest fish. Is that right that you can take them to the party tree and get 12 tokens instead?
June 22, 2011 at 7:54 am
At the party tree you trade tokens for fish. Not fish for tokens.
June 22, 2011 at 8:27 am
lol ahh.. that makes more sense..
wait..
no it doesn’t.. trade 12 tokens for a fish that you can trade for 2 tokens.. o_O
TUUURBINE!!!
June 22, 2011 at 8:44 am
I guess it’s more a way to be sure you can get them, without the randomnes of fishing.
June 22, 2011 at 9:02 am
Tanner is correct. Some rewards require a fish in addition to tokens to trade. That option is for folks who simply don’t want to bother with the fishing part.
June 22, 2011 at 9:19 am
Question. I looked at the four maps for this festival and only two of them are listed in the map deed. Did I miss something> For instance. The Lothlorien map is not listed in my deed.
June 22, 2011 at 9:43 am
Figures it out. The deed is Cartographile of Eriador. And Lothlorien is not part of Eriador,
So only 2 maps this towards the deed this festival?
June 22, 2011 at 10:13 am
Kurgan Nazzir Says:
June 22, 2011 at 2:42 am
The Lothlorien and Caras Galadhon maps are not part of the Cartographile deed because that’s only for Eriador maps.
June 22, 2011 at 10:21 am
So I am correct in that we only get 2 maps this festival for the deed?
June 22, 2011 at 8:27 pm
Yes, two for the deed and two for the looks (unless they add a Rhovanion deed later).
June 22, 2011 at 9:29 am
Another good option to get Summer tokens is to trade in Ale Association or Inn League tokens if you have earned those. 3 Summer tokens for each AA/IL token is pretty good. You can trade for any of the other festival tokens as well. The trade vendors are in the AA/IL areas in Thorin’s Hall and Michel Delving.
June 22, 2011 at 10:58 am
When Im trying to do the Farmer quest (i know it is in the general quest guide) i am told that i got something in my inventory (which is correct and i can see) but i should get into my crafting panel under apprentice farmer to plant… under the apprentice tab i cannot seem to find the correct recipe
Do i first have to add something? I tried clicking left and right on the item in my inventory but it didnt seem to do anything eiter…
Mind you I am a man which seems to be a valid excuses when you cant seem to find anything!
June 22, 2011 at 12:06 pm
Caelas, you must learn the recipe for the thingy (you receive the recipe and the plant thingy in your bag), and then go to your crafting panel and use the other item you got to make the product.
June 22, 2011 at 1:42 pm
Thanks for the tip Leirosa
June 22, 2011 at 11:21 am
I thought that the festival tokens were going to start being stored in the barter wallet. I know the anniversary festival tokens did. Any idea why this is NOT happening for the summer festival tokens?
June 22, 2011 at 1:15 pm
no idea, however I have a few of the harvestmath ones on a alt and they are still in inventory, so no idea if the plan is them storing. It would be nice just so you don’t have to worry about stacks of the darn things cluttering up space on a toon (or 7
)
June 22, 2011 at 8:29 pm
From what I know from things they’ve said in the past, they want to take things slowly to make sure the barter wallet works properly. I know I’d be ticked if the wallet ate my tokens due to some unforeseen bug. I can’t wait until they’re added, but I’m glad to have any kinks worked out first.
June 22, 2011 at 3:20 pm
There is only one race token, for both hobbit and dwarf races
.. So you can double up on your attempts to finish off a particular deed.
June 22, 2011 at 4:05 pm
Can someone develop a plugin for timing the events? The “hints” that the NPCs give (“the dance will start soon!”) are terrible. So much time wasted…and it is a waste since I pay to subscribe and it is a limited time event.
June 22, 2011 at 5:06 pm
The ‘ring’ will appear above the Dance Leader’s head to accept the quest five minutes before that round starts. It’s fifteen minutes after the last dance ended until the ‘ring’ will appear again for the next one.
If you show up and see that a dance is in progress, and you grumble about just missing it, now you know how long until it starts again. This gives you time to go check out the Dance Leader in a different zone, because they do get out of sync with each other and run at different times. I do not know the exact mechanic about how they end up running at different times, I just know that there’s been times where: I missed it in Thorin’s Hall, made a note of the time, rode to Duilond, accepted the quest there, several minutes later earned my Elf_Dance emote, and got back to Thorin’s Hall before the next Dwarf dance started.
Once you get the time figured out for where it started/ended in any location, it’s not too hard to figure out an hour later where you want to head on a different character to take advantage of the timing. Not as easy as a plug-in to tell you, but not too hard either. *^_^*
June 22, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Everything you mentioned points out why a timer would be good. Once I am there and miss the dance, it is too late. If I am not on a hunter or with one, it is not as simple as just going to a new zone, especially since, as you point out, I could miss the next three spots over and over again. I would much rather know when the dance will start without having to wait. The current model has been the same since I started playing and it is terrible. If it must be so, then a timer would make it easier and waste less time.
June 22, 2011 at 6:08 pm
Did anyone else pick up on what Skalli, the new Dwarf added this festival, says? I would bet money that it’s the DEVs poking fun at those forum posters we see almost every festival complaining. Here’s the quote that I think is the deliberate poke:
“What sort of terrible idea for a festival was this? I HATE FESTIVALS!”
For anyone who follows Festival forum posts, you are bound to have seen those very words posted many times since they have started festivals. I thought I would throw this out there and see if others felt as I that the DEVs were having a little fun at the expense of the “Festival-haters”.
June 22, 2011 at 8:31 pm
Yeah, I posted a pic of it on Twitter as soon as I saw it. https://twitter.com/#!/KurganNazzir/status/83329547994533888

How many tokens to get the horse this time around? 20? .. And 20 for everything else (cloaks, clothes, maps etc) I assume?
June 22, 2011 at 11:23 pm
After 4 hrs of playing .. It is 20 tokens for Mount. 12 for the cosmetics. I need to get both horses for my Guard. And Id like to get both cloaks (although I have to say I didnt see where I could buy the Summer Sun Cloak) and All 4 maps…
Man those Inn League quests are brutal. And Im assuming with the Keg racing, no matter who you pick, they will win. So make sure you pick different person each time to get the deed

The Summer Sun Cloak is actually on the second page of the items that can be bartered, perhaps even beneath the consumables. It’s odd that it’s listed separately when all the other items seem to be bunched by type… Also, I’m not sure if it’s limited to a certain barterer, but I know that I saw it yesterday. It’s an awesome cloak. Hope you find it!

I don’t plan on buying any race tokens with points, but there is a 100% chance your hobbit will win. Wait until the race is almost over, then bet on whoever is going to win.
June 23, 2011 at 7:19 am
How so you do that? When I’m at either of the races, the race person (the one who lets you choose a hobbit/dwarf disappears at the beginning of the race.
June 23, 2011 at 8:55 am
Wait till they respawn, but dont dawdle, as your window is about 30 to 45 seconds to get the bet in.
June 23, 2011 at 2:10 pm
Ah thank you so much. I had no idea about this little trick, its really coming in handy when trying to earn the deeds.
June 25, 2011 at 2:05 am
so if i get this right, when the dwarfs/hobbits are on their last drink/stop the npc respawns with ring and you can pick the winner???
June 27, 2011 at 9:15 pm
it doesn’t seem to work for me
June 28, 2011 at 6:12 am
To auto win you must wait for a race to actually complete, as the npc who takes your race token for your bet despawns when the race begins, but respawns as soon as a npc racer win the race. At that point you may click on him select the winner, and then reclick him to actually place the bet on your selection. you must click the npc twice to get the credit on the bet. also you must do so within 30 seconds as the npc resets (if you watch close you will see the ring over his head reset) and at that point all bets placed are for the next race.
June 28, 2011 at 12:54 pm
I think the bug was fixed? 3 tries and the NPC spawn after the first come through the goal..
June 28, 2011 at 3:24 pm
To clarify for those who don’t understand this, I’ll break this down into steps.
1. Go to the location of the race (the Hill or the steps of Thorin’s Hall).
2. Wait for the race to begin. The NPC who accepts bets will disappear once it begins. Do not place a bet before the beginning of the race (you can, but then winning or losing really is up to chance, and that’s not what we’re talking about here).
3. Watch the race and see who wins. If you miss who crosses the finish line first (which can occasionally be an issue with the hobbits but its always been clear with the dwarves), simply look through the dialogue. The winner will act confused or ask for more food and state that they have one.
4. Now is the time to place your bet. The NPC will reappear immediately after the winner crosses the line and announces that they have won.
5. In order to bet, you must select one of the four quests from the NPC. Pick the one that deals with the winner of the race. Accept that quest. Then, you must talk to the NPC again. Accept this second quest. At this point, the NPC will remove a race token from your inventory.
6. Run your butt off to get to the race-master. This is Jorfi for the dwarves (who is in the Inn in the basement of Thorin’s Hall) and Dodder Twofoot for the hobbits (who is near the Party Tree next to the Inn League tent).
7. Turn in the quest and collect your six Festival Tokens.
Side note:
If you’re very speedy, you can do this process twice for each race. Run to the race master, turn in the quest, and then rush back to the betting NPC. Accept the same quest you just turned in and return to the race master. I’ve only tried this with the hobbits so far, but it lets me advance the deeds twice as fast. Plus it nets you more Tokens per race.
I hope the above was helpful.

It’s still working for us on 7/3, but you DO have to watch your timing on it from what I’ve seen. My wife also wants to thank all of you you pointed this little gem out to us noobs.

Thanks so much for the guide! Since this is my first Summer Festival it will really come in handy. I don’t suppose there is a PDF version available so I won’t have to have IE and LotRO running at the same time, huh?

Highlight the actual guide (missing all these comments etc). In the Print dialogue box choose Print Range: Selection.

Any idea if the Cartographile Deed will be including the Lothlorien Map. Don’t think It does now.
Great guide…I have it up on my second screen constantly.
June 24, 2011 at 8:34 am
I believe there are different deeds that will include Lothlorien. There are more maps than just the meta-deed Eriador to be found in the Lore-book.
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Item:Map_of_Moria – collecting all moria maps
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Item:Map_of_Rhovanion – collecting all Rhovanion maps
And a meta meta deed for collecting all the maps
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Item:Map_of_Middle-earth
If you are interested in completing these deeds, you’ll want to pick up Lothlorien and the Ettenmoors maps just to have a head start.

Just as a clarification, the Celebrating Sunshine deed doesn’t actually need all of the finding quests to be completed; just these three:
Missing Things (Duillond)
Forgotten Errands (Thorin’s Hall)
Too Much Festival (Shire)
Also, if you really don’t like fishing, you can simply pick up the four quests (after completing Stocking the Pond) and wait twenty minutes; you will automatically complete the quest without even having to talk to the quartermaster again.

I noticed that there is a pie eating contest quest in the Bree festival area (Near the fireworks quest giver). I found it with my main, ate the pies and got the “Pie Eating Champion” title. But, every time I go back with an alt, the contest is not running (They actually tell you that). Any idea what’s going on with this quest? I don’t see it noted anywhere in the guides.
June 27, 2011 at 11:05 am
This is not a festival quest. This is actually available year round!
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Quest:The_Pie-eating_Contest
How this quest works is it will only activate during the in-game morning period throughout the day. I’m not certain if it’s guaranteed to happen each morning period of if there is a random component to it. However, a day in game takes approximately 3 hours to swing around to morning again. I got it by camping GS out there and logging her in every couple hours until I got it. It didn’t take me but 2 tries before I found it for her!
July 2, 2011 at 11:53 am
addendum to Goldenstar’s comments:
THe Pie Eating contest is not gauranteed to happen every daytime period. It’s a random chance that it can happen during ingame daytime hours.
And as GS points out, the logging in every couple of hours or so works much better than actively camping the area.

Question about getting Summer Festival horse. According to guide you can either try to win the horse race to get token or buy the token from a kindred Inn League or Ale Association member.
As a member of Inn League I have tried to find the token on them to buy it but no luck(maybe haven’t found them all), and guide does not say specifically where npc is located. Please someone tell me where this npc is. I’ve already lost half my sanity trying to win horse race and now losing other half trying to find npc. My hobbit really wants that pale horse.
Thanks : )

The NPC for the Inn League is in the secret room inside the Bird and Baby. This is not included in the Summer festival guide because it pertains specifically to the Inn League which is part of each and every festival and is instead included in their guide http://www.casualstrolltomordor.com/2010/11/guide-to-the-inn-league/

Had no idea how much of the festival was being missed. Thank you for the link and saving my sanity

This has to be my most favorite festival, mainly for the beauty and quantity of the items but the ease in which it’s plays out. Thanks to that tip of betting on the last winner, one can gain many tokens easily. But even if that was not the case, just running races and doing the find q’s would have been plenty to get alot of items.
my only small grief has been the sheer quantity of the pranks, after the 300th faint/flame it has become very very old.
*goes back to playing with all my dresses/cloaks/decorations happily
