In this episode we take a look at Palantir by Digital_Utopia. This plugin allows you to have a H.U.D (Heads Up Display) representing your vitals. It is one of the few plugins that I see as essential for all my characters. It creates a different style of visual representation of your vitals that can work with your original vitals or in-place of them. In addition to that, there is also a set of quick-slots that can be used to hold potions to counter poison, wound, fear, or disease buffs. Also there is a small configurable cooldown timer that can be configured by the player so that they know when they are able to use their next potion.
As I said before, this is one of the few plugins that I deem essential for all my characters. I like having my vitals right in front of my face and in a manner that still allows for me to actually see my character. The addition of the debuff and potion slots also provides great utility and serves as a constant reminder to not only use my potions, but to re-stock them as needed. And while this may not be for everyone, I would strongly advise most players to give it a try because you might be surprised just how much you will like it.

I could never get into this plugin, but I think I may give it another go. I have tried putting my normal vitals next to my hotbars, but I could never get used to that either. This plugin might be nice for the Moors, where a split second of looking away from the fight could mean death.
My can’t-leave-home-without-it plugins are TonicBars, Manager, and BuffBars. On my Warden and my Hunter, I also use Travel.

Yep, I use most of those myself. Palantir may not be for everyone though, but you’re right; it never hurts to give them another try.

I use the same plugins, plus Palantir^^ But i’m kind of a sucker for.. “shiny things” so… ^^

I’ll try this one…
For the potions, I use a Tonic bar “quickbar” with all potions in them that appear when I have buffs.
And I just can’t live without buffbar… the “moving icons” are pretty much essential to time things right with my Captain (Last Stand Timer, Defeat response timing, etc) and pretty usefull to see when to re-cast a HoT Gambit on my warden

Buffbars is really awesome. I haven’t tried Tonic with potions, but maybe I will give it a shot.

When I’m raiding I use Palantir AND buffbars lol. I’ve set a buffbars effect slider to show debuffs and just a normal Buffbars debuff window in the top and bottom middle of my screen AND I have the Palantir potion cure shiny lights. When I get a negative effect my screen pretty much goes crazy so I know about it

I agree! This one is vital for all my characters.
You can also place your Hunter’s poison heal into the slot for the poison pot but if you use target forwarding like I do make sure you have yourself or no one targeted during a fight or you will remove the poison from someone else.

I need to start using the plugins. i think I have them installed. I just keep forgetting to load them when I start LOTRO. I like this plugin way better than the default stats, since I have a smallish monitor (19 in). every little bit of screen real estate helps.

Thanks for the review. I downloaded Palantir and Buffbars last night. After a couple of hours of tweaking, I think I have found settings that enhance gameplay, not distract

You’re welcome! I’m glad that you were able to get it working as well. It takes a bit of adjustment, but really I think they help quite a bit.

Travel is the only one I use, but maybe I should give this one a try. Thanks for the review/idea.
