In a report by the BBC, Codemasters has confirmed that “the personal details of thousands of people have been stolen…” which includes names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth. However, thankfully payment information was not compromised. And while this does not affect Turbine accounts in any manner, that doesn’t mean though that you should take no action if you have ever had a Codemasters account. If you have ever had a Codemasters account or if you still do have an account, we recommend the following steps:
- Change your Codemasters account password immediately to something you have never used before. (Merric recommends using Lastpass or a similar service if you have problems thinking up a unique password.)
- If you are using a password you have used on a Codemasters account on another account we recommend changing that password as well. And although Turbine and Codemasters do not share account information, I would guess that there are some people who have migrated over new accounts to Turbine using the same username and password that they used previously with Codemasters.
- Be wary of any emails asking you to change your password for any kind of online account that provides you a link to follow. Even if it’s a valid email, type in the address yourself into your browser. Never trust a link in an email asking you to do anything with any account; gaming or otherwise.
We’ve talked about security before, but it never hurts to remind everyone to be careful and be safe. The Internet is akin to the Wild West sometimes and caution never hurts.

At least, as far as I can tell. If your only interaction with codemasters was LotrO, you should be safe. Still, its always a good day to change all your account details!

I guess moving European players to Turbine’s end happened at the right time.

oh god this is terrible
is there any way you can get your COG account deleted completely?
only good thing to hear is, that COG/PAS seems not to be affected by the codemasters.com hack, but still, we can’t be sure if that’s true
