Yeah, it’s a cheesy title, but I couldn’t resist! All thanks to Caelas for pointing out today that Sapience posted on the Codemasters forum that EU players transitioning over to Turbine’s system will not need to download or install a new client. Once the migration is finished, EU players will only need to launch the existing client and it will patch and connect to the Global Service
Hi guys, I’m just poking my head in between meetings because I have a very important piece of news to share.
You will NOT need to download a new client or reinstall. When the servers come back online all you will need to do is launch your existing client and it will patch up to the most current version and connect to the Global Service.
As noted by some above, there are some significant differences between the current NA and EU clients. This includes DE and FR language support and some other elements the prevent EU clients from logging into the NA service and NA clients from logging into the EU service. The Global service will use one client that includes EN, DE and FR languages (even for NA players who wish to play in DE or FR) and access to all existing NA and EU servers.
This sounds like great news to me and I salute those who worked on this project to get this done. I love the idea of being able to log into any of the servers and using only one client. It also means that we could soon see some of our friends from the EU logging into some of the more popular events such as Ales and Tales as well! Great job all!

Ha, neat. Maybe I’ll put it in German and try to learn the language haha

Hopefully they’ll at least put up a new full installer and push it to fileplanet.. Extra languages means a lot of patching and a good time to do a new base install

This all is sounding too good, we await with dread how long we may be down, or what madness may occur when we switch, fingers crossed it goes well!

It does indeed! LoL

Thank you very much! And now you know all about hat-tipping to boot!

I honestly expect you US folks to not be down for long, the Server downtime should realistically not be much longer than any larger-ish patch.
How long it’ll take them to re-connect all the ex-CM game account with their newly made Turbine accounts however… >.<
I'm expecting not playing for a week or so, that way I could be plesantly surprised

I’m just speculating, but I think there’s a chance Turbine may convert the US client with the May update at the end of the month so the US players shouldn’t have to do any further patching. The only down time will likely be as they adjust the servers.

Given how long they’ve been working on the change that makes sense, but we’ll have to see.

Hope this is soon. My only big disappointment with this game was that I had to choose who I could play with. I know a LOT of US LOTR fans and we wanted to play with each other, but in the end I could only get an EU founder pack and lifesub, so I got the EU version. So glad we’ll be able to play together soon! (any ideas when?

Switch-over is scheduled for June 1, expect downtime after the switch is made (check the CM forum link in the article, Sapience gives the info out so far about the move.)

A member of our sister kinship in the EU has already challenged me to a duel on Bullroarer after June 1

Well, as a member on Snowbourn EU server, I don´t really understand why so many are upset on CM forums. Games change, and life changes, no big deal, I rather merge than see the game close
. What makes me sad though is to see some players on both sides of the pond writing rude and arrogant remarks (I do not mean on this exellent site).
Hell, we all share the love of Tolkien and this game, so all will be good, and one is not forced to join any other server, or learn any new languages

My sentiments exactly Chretien! I for one look forward to meeting people from even more countries than before, the diversity of friends and acquaintances in regard to country, belief, and lifestyle, I have picked up from LOTRO is fantastic, all sharing a common love of LOTRO and games. The more of this the better!

We don´t have to re download the client/setup files, but i still have the outdated setup files from pre. nov2010 update and i appreciate it if they would “release” an updated version of the setup/installer…especially after the upcoming supreme update, we deserve an up to date client/setup installer…i just dont want anymore to update the outdated version…[2gb+ of new files]everytime i have to reinstall the game :=)
