Bullroarer: Treasure Hunt Horses

May 6, 2011

Festival Guides, General

Checking out the new Treasure Hunt on Bullroarer last night, I noticed some interesting new horses. Barethar of Brandywine was kind enough to pause for pictures and to answer a few questions about these fancy new mounts.

Cave-Claw Masked Horse

This drops coins and makes a noise as you run.

I was able to find the Cave-claw Masked Horse from Large Treasure Caches while testing this event. I was unable to find the Treasure Laden Horse or Goat, and I assume that they come from Huge Treasure Caches (of which there is only one per round).

These caches work a lot like the anniversary gift boxes in that they give random rewards. Most of the rewards are fairly low level items, although there were some items in the Large and Huge Caches that were relevant to level 65 characters (relics for legendary items and level 65 power and morale pots). And then of course there is the rare chance to find an interesting horse or goat…

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about these random drop horses having such high stats. Sure, they’re rare (perhaps as rare as the Skeleton Horse from Harvestmath?) but other than the time investment of searching the Treasure Field for them, it’s not like they’re anywhere near as difficult to obtain as the other meta deed horses that have comparable stats. Yes, the store does have horses with these stats from time to time, but that’s still a rather sizable investment in the form of Turbine Points for those.

For more information about these mounts, as well as pictures of a Treasure Laden Goat, check out Mistress of Mordor’s post.

This is still on Bullroarer if you want to try the Treasure Hunt yourself. Turbine is asking for feedback on this event. Otherwise you can expect a guide here on CSTM when it appears on live!

I can confirm that the Treasure Laden Horse is at least in the huge ones.

Any chance CSTM is going to do a map of the actual arena? That’d be wonderful!

Ketani is busy collecting all the goodies at the moment for our guide. Some pieces on Bullroarer aren’t working quite yet but we will be doing what we can!

The node locations are currently marked on the map, there are some spawning issues, but a full map would help people determine where to use their cave-claws to best effect, making the most of the very expensive picks :)

    Must!

    Has!

    Treasure horse!

One can only hope a certain horseshoe will help with my finding it.

Along with only being in the huge ones, the Treasure Laden Horse seems to be very rare indeed.. After 4 or 5 huge caches, still no horse at all, not even a Cave claw one!

We don’t know if the cave-claw is in the huge loot table at all. We do have reports of it dropping in a medium. And I can confirm it comes from /large at least :)

Ok, the claw one looks a bit silly, but I kinda like the treasure laden one. Kinda let’s me think about some neat little funny scenes in-game with it, may be worth to get it.

The Claw horse is exactly what I was looking for: A really angry and mean looking horse :)

250 Morale is unusually good for a event horse (since they normally have 100) so
I hope that this time everyone will have a fair chance of winning.

The spikes on the masked horse look… painful.

I only saw the cave-claw in the large cache, of which I got three in the same evening. The huge cache horses will be harder to get, from what we were able to learn, there is only one huge cache per round, once this has been looted the current round ends and a new one begins.
The treasure event looks like it could be a lot of fun, but there seems to be a bit of work needing to be done still.

Too bad I’ll never see these; I refuse to partake in an event where items from the store are greatly ‘needed’ in order to participate.

Be sure you pop into the next bullroarer build and give your feedback when they turn it on! Maybe you’ll contribute to the free picks getting improved rates! :)

The treasure hunt sounds like fun – is this soemthing that will appear on the regular servers at some point?

I was thinking the treasure one would be perfect for my dwarf. I’m not hot on the griffin looking one, but it sure is different from any other steed you’d see strolling on the road.
I’ve been reading some of the posts in regards to playing the festival game and I have to agree. . . if I have to spend TP to play the games I’m afraid I too will not be participating. I’d rather use those points on things to improve my characters or game-play in general.
