Massively’s Syp Interviews Turbine

April 21, 2011

Codemasters, LOTRO News, Turbine

SypOur friend Justin “Sypster” Olivetti over at Massively was able to interview Turbine’s Aaron Campbell and Adam Meresky and has a great post with a ton of great information in it.  There are some exciting tidbits, but way too much to even list here so I will give a few highlights and heavily recommend that you go over to the post and read it in its entirety!

  • Update 3 will be bringing us two skirmishes
    • Attack at Dawn (levels 30-65)
    • Icy Cravasse (levels 40-65)
  • And Two dungeons
    • Inn of the Forsaken (levels 20-65)
    • Halls of Night (levels 40-65)

And I have to say they sound awesome!  My favorite quote is about the Inn of the Forsaken:

…with many pits, traps and “devilish puzzles” awaiting fearless visitors. If you get far enough, you might even find out the inn’s secret: a ship that’s waiting in a cavern below. The instance has new armor, weapons, and a pocket item to help you gear up!

Because you know what that sounds like to me?  Goonies!  And I LOVE THE GOONIES!

If that’s not enough for you there are some tidbits of The Rise of Isengard as well!

  • The level cap will be raised to 75, not 70 as previously stated.
  • There are three new Epic Books coming with the expansion

Of course there is also a lot more information over at Massively, which again we highly recommend that you go read!

My biggest news: better level cap! I really was looking forward to it, now I am just… wow. I can’t wait to see the instances in Update 3 and then ROI! ^^

I hope this does not mean that all the Legacy scrolls I have been stockpiling will not be useful on a level 75 LI. Currently they say good up to level 70.

I, for one, was pretty sure the new level cap would be 75 when I saw that the scrolls we currently have would be useful until level 70.

Was anyone so naive to think that we would be able to use stuff from pre-expansion to pos-expansion grind? Heh.

At least we will have 10 levels to level-up 66+ LIs to get enough scrolls for our 2nd age 75 when we get there. It is probably not as big of a deal as I feared when first reading the announcement. The legacies could also possibly change with the 2nd part of the LI revamp and new skills added to the classes with the expansion.

I believe I am going to sing Tenacious D while running that instance. Every time.

They specifically mention that they’re working on mounted combat… I’m curious if it’ll be ready for Isengard or not. I’m excited for the expansion in general, though.

My main hope is that they give us some new, cool skills. The skills that came with 60 to 65 were OK, but I guess was hoping for something really significant when hitting 65 and there was obviously nothing. Perhaps 74/75 could change that… or maybe let us use an additional Legendary skill.
