One of the benefits of going to PAX East 2011 was that those who stopped by the Turbine booth were able to get an exclusive in-game mount. However, although you could register it as soon as you got to a computer, it was unavailable in-game until Update 2 went live. And now we have a screenshot of the mount as well as the stats.
- Name: Cremello
- Speed: +62%
- Morale: 200
You may remember that this horse was a result of the LOTRO Design a Horse Contest whose winner was a mother and daughter team.
We were told that the color of the horse was adjusted slightly to match the PAX color scheme so that is why there are some differences. We have been told that this mount is exclusive to PAX East, however that doesn’t mean we might not see it in the future in lotteries, the store, or in a contest from your favorite LOTRO podcast and/or blog. Also note that if you do not see the item in your inventory it might already be an applied skill. Open up your Skills menu (the default keybind is the K key), go to the Mounts tab, and scroll to the bottom. You should see a skill starting with the name Cremello.
Special Thanks to SunGryphon for letting us know it was live!

Is it available to all your characters like the Adventurer’s Pack Goat?
If so, it’s really awesome!
March 21, 2011 at 12:56 pm
Yes, it is account wide meaning all your characters get the item.

If you registered your PAX key the mount appears in your skill panel when you login. It is called Cremello Horse/Pony. It will not appear in your backpack.

Original horse design and coloring being exclusive to PAX attendees = ANGRY HOBBIT STRUNTO.
Recolored, ugly blue, elderly-looking design exclusive to PAX attendees = Pacified Strunto (Until time for elevensies.)

I seem to be the only negative Nancy around, so I’ll keep my comments brief. But what kind of bull crap “prize” to a competition is it when the game makers change the winning design after the fact?
The winners might very well be happy with the end result, but it still seems a bit backwards to me. And I might be eating my words if the original version makes an appearance in-game soon. But I’m not too worried about that happening.

Not being up on my equestrian jargon, I thought I’d been given some kind of candy bar horse…

Kind of looks like a candy bar too… better keep it away from hungry hobbits just to be safe.

I really love it! Being a EU resident there was no way for me to go to PAXeast sadly… more chance waiting for Codemasters to introduce my.lotro.eu and setting up a Lottery :p

I just logged in to check out my horse and I like the look of it.

I’ll add to the opinion that I like the original coloration better. The colors just look really…. 4th of July? *shrug* maybe we’ll get lucky and the original mount will be made available in game/store and the Paxers can keep the recolored blankie

Personally I don’t think they should put it in the store. That sort of thing should be mentioned in contest rules at the beginning of a design contest.
If they do put it in the store, I think they should pay the winning designer a % of the sales (kind of like what Valve does now for mod designers). I know a lot of people will laugh at such a suggestion but the fact is that they pay inhouse people to design stuff for them. It should be no different for someone “outside” that designs something for them. To use it as a financial gain after the fact would seem a bit underhanded IMHO.
If anything, they should consider including it in the Lotteries. Or just maintain it as a annual event for PAX, The Annual PAX Mount Design Contest.

I honestly didn’t appreciate the design when it was announced as the winner, but the fact they’ve changed the “winner’s” appearance makes it completely a joke.
Not to mention I dislike it even more now; I didn’t think that was possible.

I’m bummed that they changed the color scheme! I think the gold blanket/fringe was kind of important to the overall design. I think they should’ve stuck with the original color scheme. Or give players a choice of which color scheme they’d prefer. I WAS excited to get a PAX pony. But now, not so much…

I don’t mind either coloration, but the rationalization for the change – to match the PAX color scheme – seems specious.

Also notice that the even the mane of the horse changed color. I prefer the original design personally. But I am thinking that we will see the original horse in the near future.

While I like the new version of the horse, I think it’s a little unfair for the devs to change a design that they picked themselves as a winner. We don’t really know if the designers are happy or not, but if they wanted a particular colour scheme to match the event colours, they should have asked for that when they opened the competition in the first place. I know if I’d made the effort to design a horse with nicely toned and matching tack (that toned with the horse itself as well), I’d be a bit unhappy if they said ‘yeah we like the design but we’re changing all the colours’.

I pray the original design is going to be available to the masses. The pax recolour is just horrible! I don’t want to ride around on an american flag!

Anyone here still in need of the PAX East 2011 Lord of the Rings mount discussed here? It actually was also given out at the PAX PRIME 2011 convention in Seattle this past weekend. I got a few extras, if anyone needs one, feel free to post here, and I will somehow get the code to you.

Hey Jugger, if you still have an extra code for the mount I would gladly take one. =D Post back if you need an email address.
