Episode 79: Live from PAX East

This is a special episode and is a bit different from our typical episode. We recorded this episode in our hotel room in Boston after attending a day of PAX East.

We do quickly go over the news from the past week but the majority of the episode was roundtable style where we discuss our PAX East experiences and anything else that comes to mind.

Baby Hobbit with Little AzzOn this episode:

  • Elborigorn
  • Ketani
  • Kiarane
  • Sam (Kia’s husband)

Ace episode, Elb dude; the ‘all they have to do is stand there a pew, how hard can it be had me laughing my ass off’!

But just one thing, I was one of those 18%, a balrog could have wings and could fly… in principle…

If as you say Elb, the balrog was thrown down and killed thats why they can’t fly! Why did the fall from the bridge of khazad dum not kill Gandalf and the Balrog if the physical act is enough?

It is assumed that the fall or impact was his cause of death? Sure it smote its ruin, does that mean the fall literally killed him, or that ‘gandalf’ ‘throwing him down’ was the act of destruction/defeat?

I think when Balrgos and Tolkien are concerned, its tempting as Haakons post suggests to apply far to many ‘worldly’ attributes, ‘wings of shadow’ can still be wings, in the same way a mane of fire, is still a mane. I don’t think ‘wings’ has to mean they have large bits of skin and bone they flap around to travel in the way a dragon does, but it doesn’t exclude much else.

A simply enchanting episode, I was laughing the entire way through (and getting a few strange looks in the process). You guys really brightened up my day. :)

This was too much fun, and the audio came out great for taping on the road. Count me in as someone who would’ve shown up for a live taping at PAX, I hoped to run into y’all at the show but meeting a few other LotRO players and Sapience & Cel (who I talked to for like 1/2 an hour I think, she’s very cool.) was awesome enough.

I was looking for any Casual Stroll or Flaming poo shirts, ’cause I had no idea what you looked like. I always pictured Merric as a younger cuter Seacrest and since Goldenstar sounds just like one of my friends I picture her as dark haired and latina…I know I’m prolly way off, but that’s the problem with radio and podcasts! ;)

Hahahahaha! Oh my goodness you were pretty far off on your descriptions. You were probably better off keeping an eye out for the girl with a baby on her back :D

I am debating sharing this photo of us. I hate to break the great illusion. I’d love to be a sassy latina!

Hehe, I look more like I ate Ryan Seacrest than I do a younger version of him. But I appreciate the compliment!

        Merric, out!

Hee, thanks for sharing! I didn’t see many younger kids there at all, but I’d definitely remember Baby Hobbit if I saw her. She’s adorable!

Next year I will try to do better about announcing where I am. I have an idea for a couple of things we can do to get more involved with everyone using some of the group messaging apps that came out at South by Southwest this year.

Fun epdisode! I’m listening to it now and just /LOLed for real listening to you all discuss the cognitive disjunction that happens when you meet people you’ve only chatted with online IN REAL LIFE. I saw some of the photos you posted from the event and–although I KNOW you don’t look the same as your avatars, I STILL had a hard time matching your faces to your voices. Cuz when I hear you all on the podcast, I STILL see your hobbits. Not your actual people faces.

Actually, I did attended PAX East for a few hours on Friday and had the pleasure of meeting Ketani (hi Ketani!– I was the random guy in an orange t-shirt who said hi to you at the Turbine booth Fri AM.) Sadly, I did not have time to meet the rest of the crew. Maybe next time!

Hope you all had a great time. It sounds like you did!

Also — yes, Boston is a great town to get lost in. (Take that any way you want to. ;-)
And WOW — Merric and Goldenstar — I cannot believe you guys drove all the way here! You guys are troopers. Or something. ;-)
