Introducing the CSTM iPhone App!

January 20, 2011

General

CSTMbuttonI’m very pleased to announce that our iPhone/iPod Touch app has been approved for the iTunes app store and is now available for download!

CSTM2The Casual Stroll to Mordor iPhone app is meant to be a companion app to help you quickly keep up with the goings on of CSTM in one application. Available features include:

  • Up-to-date listing on most current blog posts
  • The most recent podcasts episodes allowing you to stream the episodes on the go!
  • All the roundtable discussions also available for streaming
  • Videos we publish to YouTube for your viewing pleasure
  • I also included a feed of our Twitter updates
  • Easily share articles with your friends on twitter, facebook or by email.

CSTM4All this for the low-low price of: FREE. Yup, our blog posts and podcasts are free, saw no reason to charge for the app that delivers the same content!

Currently the streaming will only continue while you are in the app and will stop if you close it. It’s something we hope we can fix in the future. Any other thoughts or suggestions are also welcome!

We do have interest in trying other smart phone platforms if at all possible. iPhone was easiest to start with since it happens to be devices we own. If we can figure out other platforms at all we’ll do what we can to add apps for you guys as well!

This sounds awesome. I don’t have an iPhone (Droid) and gave my iPod to my son but this would be cool to have on my phone. Hope figuring it out for other platforms is doable and not too hard.

Nice! I have an iPad, so I normally just use the browser for the site. I have to download then sync the podcasts due to the lack of Flash, but this may fix that! Definitely going to download it and try it out!

It doesn’t look too bad on the iPad. We’re not sure if/when we may have true support for the iPad, but we will definitely be keeping that option open.

I’m posting this comment from the app! It’s replacing a shortcut. I just noticed tonight that if you search the app store for “tolkien” there’s an app with lessons in Elvish. What next?

I will be getting this for my iPod when I get home, and if y’all can come up with a version for Droid, I would grab that as well!

I’d certainly love a Droid application myself. You know they have the largest market share now in the US. ;-)

Thanks for the hard work on this. While I access the CSTM site on my mobile phone, many times those mobile templates just aren’t as nice as what a proper designer can come up with in a mobile app.

Thank you for including the Roundtables and YouTube tabs. I listen to the Roundtables more than once, and the videos are now easier for me to find.

Worked great for awhile, and I love the roundtable section.

Seems to be crashing on start; I may need to update iTunes or iOS.
