It was when I was playing this character that Azz mentioned to me that he was afraid I was burning myself out by leveling alts. I personally didn’t see it, but now that I’ve spent the past several weeks on my Guardian again, I definitely can see it. Not that I don’t love the class; I do. It’s probably one of my favorites out of all of them. But as I’ve stated before I found leveling quite dreary. That aside, I did get the most done with this character because of his ability to breeze through most of the content.
Where the other characters took a lot of time working through things, this character had no problems. With this character I was able to complete all of the quests in Esteldín that were not group related. I was also able to breeze through quite a bit of the content with little issue. It was also playing this character that I learned that all the crafting professions are able to craft a reputation item for different factions located within the game. This is probably something that most players are aware of, but it was a bit of a revelation for myself. I still felt that grinding Skirmishes was more rewarding, but it was good to know that if I had spare resources around they could go towards another aspect of the game other than the Auction House.
Of all the skills that I obtained during these levels I have to say the skill I was most excited about was Hide in Plain Sight. More so because I found myself running more in Mischief than I did starting out sneaking. Although I found sneaking to be very viable, even in skirmishes, it really increased the amount of down-time I experienced. This was due to the fact that if I chose to sneak attack a target I had to prepare everything “just right” and make sure that I didn’t become discovered by a mob before I was ready. Not that it’s usually much of an issue, but it is added time to the leveling experience. I also discovered that the deed for Hide in Plain Sight is probably the most annoying, because it means you either have to find a reason to use it constantly or just hit it every time you remember and hope you don’t get yourself in a situation where you need it, but it’s on cool down.
Overall, I’m really enjoying this class and I look forward to picking him up again in the future.
Burglar Skills 30 – 38
| Skill | Skill Effect | Opinion | Level Obtained |
| Clever Retort |
Only usable if the Burglar is in Mischief and on a target with an active Trick. It applies one of four effects; a DoT, a heal, a power restore, or a direct damage. It will also break a target out of a Dazed state. | A great skill. A lot of burglars love playing in Mischief and this is a great skill to use. Personally, I would advise on banking on any of the results, but rather seeing them as a bonus. | 30 |
| Hide in Plain Sight |
Drops you into sneak and improves your stealth so that you are undetectable and so it cannot be broken for a short duration (10 seconds at level 40). | If there’s one skill that Burglars love and their group members envy, it’s Hide in Plain Sight. The skill drops you instantly activates Sneak (even while in-combat) in order to save your skin or to perform attacks to do increased damage and/or start Fellowship Maneuvers. | 30 |
| Find Footing |
Removes a dazes, stuns, conjunction stuns, and knockdowns; heals the Burglar, and gives a bonus to your Evade Chance (+50% at level 40). | I really wish I had this on my Guardian (and yes, I know Turn the Tables is similar, but I can want both). There are a lot of mobs out there that stun so expect to be using this. | 32 |
| Provoke |
Focuses an enemies aggression on its current opponent and does direct damage as well. It will do more damage if it is used while in Stealth. | A group orientated skill that can be a bit “iffy”. It definitely help a tank, but I can also see it going awry should the mob suddenly target someone else… Like the healer. | 34 |
| Ready and Able |
Resets the cooldown timers on a select amount of skills. Using this skill will not break Stealth. | This is a pretty standard skill for all classes. It helps quite a bit in making you a more able player. From my understanding the skill resets Hide in Plain Sight, Touch and Go, Aim, and Knives Out. | 36 |
| Trick: Enrage |
Target will attack foes randomly and takes increased Ranged Damage for a duration of time. It will also break the target out of a dazed state. | The one tip I’ve seen for this is that it can be used in a pinch to get a mob off a healer. However, be prepared because this doesn’t guarantee that it won’t randomly pick the healer. | 38 |

I guess why people didn’t mention the crafted rep items much before is because they used to be a waste of materials but now they are really worth making and are equal to or slightly better than the most efficient items to craft. Like Jewellery seems to have gotten a good deal, for artisan tier just 1 bar and a polished gem will give 6 points, compared to 2 bars and a polished gem for 8 points making hope tokens. Same for master tier,10 points for rep item versus 8 points for hope tokens with the same materials.
For HIPS deed I left Lotro on for most of the day, and came back every so often to queue the skill while doing other stuff, it’s a pain but ‘ready and able’ helps.

I’m kind of thinking my burg will be my next alt to level. The RK is closing in on 65 so there will be an opening in my leveling lineup….

I did that very same thing with the Wisdom of the Council deed for my LM. That’s not a skill you want on cooldown. I was doing homework, and I set a timer for 10 minutes, then I would alt-tab over and hit that as well as Beacon of Light. Was able to get it quite a ways on that tactic!

I’ve been working up my stable of alts in a similar fashion as you with a few twists.
I have my mains (hunter/woodworker, captain/tailor) that are fully leveled with traits, virtues, gear all fully stocked. The rest I’m only leveling until they unlock the Mirkwood crafting recipes using whatever traits and virtues i get along the way. Most of my characters end up around level 58-62 depending on the class. So far I’ve completed mini/jeweler 58, champ/weaponsmith 61, and rk/scholar 59. I’m currently on my burg/metalsmith and am surprised at how versatile the little guy is, I’ll honestly be a little sad when he’s finished. However after him waiting to go is a warden so that should make up for it.

Enrage is a great skill, definately work ongetting the trait as it forces ranged mobs to engage you in melee range… for solo it is amazing! Those archers that refuse to move, yet you don’t want to run to incase you aggro too much… pop enrage on them and they come right to you!
Find footing and Clever retort as you say are awesome, find footing make soloing EM trolls easy mode, and the trick with clever retort is to make sure you use it when you power and morale has dropped and you still have a mob or two to kill, that way whatever you get is usefull.
I think from 40 onwards I have used Mischief almost exclusively on my Burglar, quiet knife and stealth is still an amazing line, but for my play style I found I can handle more mobs at once, and solo some tough elites easier with mischief.

Ready and able should reset the cooldown on all of your skills, not only the ones you mentionend. At least it resets all the important ones, like Exploit Opening, HIPS, T&G, etc. Very useful.

The HIPS trait is usefull, but you might want to focus on the engrage trait, that trait will give you the ability to pull ranged mobs to you, very nice in raids, that is if you are taking your burg into raids. But yeah the hips trait in a pain, I think i got the trait done by the time my burg reached lothlroein so about 59
I feel a bit burned out to sometimes with so many alt choices, i need to make one choice and stick to it. congrats on taking your burg to level 40, from here on out, it gets better

i found that mischief lineup is better then gamble and plain sight im now combining my mischief and gamble traits together sense knife trait u only get 1 mega hit it seems that mischief and gamble will pay off over long term fights.
