So what’s better than one house decorated with taste and style? Missy from Nimrodel answered this question very candidly: A dozen. Inspired by Middle-Earth and gifted with great creativity, she undertook the incredible challenge of fully decorating 12 houses, all with their distinctive style and ambience. We’re happy to present you a short interview with the creator of this astonishing showcase and some pictures of her designs!
Tell us about your project, how did you came to bring those 12 amazing houses to live?
Well, after decorating my first house I kept seeing ideas that I wanted too, but I didn’t want to give up my frilly elven decorations, so one house became two, then three (with the help of a friend who no longer played). It stalled there for a while until F2P was about to come out, that’s when I had my brilliant flash of insanity
As for decorating them, I have an amazing kin, The Guardians of the Veiled Rose, that helped with the few decorations that I couldn’t make or get because of rep. After I had finished, I filled the chests with goodies and had an open house party for them.
What was your biggest challenge?
I think the biggest challenge was getting all the characters to 15 and waiting buy the houses when a new neighborhood opened, then I still had to wait 3 months to gain rank 7 to buy the kin houses. The decorating took weeks to get everything done just right, needless to say I didn’t gain a lot of levels during that time. I think my biggest challenge may be ahead of me depending on what changes they make to housing next year, I may be in big trouble then.
Do you have a favourite house or room amongst your creations?
There are so many, it’s hard to choose but I think I will always have to pick my first house as my favorite – 9 Haven Way just for sentimental reasons.
My favorite room however is the hobbit bedroom at 8 Haven Way with the shrew painting and the pet mouse. I also love the color scheme of 7 Fairwood Lane, the black and white man cave look which is mostly empty right now waiting for all my future trophies.
Any advice to share with your fellow Lotro decorators?
Don’t buy 12 houses
Seriously though the first advice I give anyone is to go to your decorating guide at CSTM. I couldn’t have done this without it.
As for a starting place, it helps to find a wall style and color that you like and build around that, or if you have favorite items you can design the house around them. Touring the neighborhoods is also a great way to get ideas.
Thank you Missy for sharing your creations with us! Everyone is invited to drop by and tour the houses on the Nimrodel server, Falathorn homestead in Athrad Valen. Addresses decorated by Missy are the 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 Haven Way and the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Fairwood Lane.

Absolutely brilliant! Decorating, both the home and our character bodies is what my sister and I enjoy the most about gaming. I recently started a ftp account just so I could have another home and spend days playing with colors and items and grouping.
My most fav is the bear in the pool, a genius stroke of imagination that made it thru the cookie cutter limitations of the prearranged housing set up.
I am looking forward to the revamping of the housing situation in game, as it stands now there is hardly any room for personal creativity. Prearranged hook idea really rots and the short lists of available decorations is really missing out on a money maker for the game.
Also, I have gone thru neighborhood to neighborhood only to see locked out house after house.. not just a month..or two.. or three….or four…. it’s ridiculous. Either make a house a permanent feature of your char like any other bought item and create enough new houses for new players, or delete the ownership after two months of inactivity and send their stuff to permanent eskrow.
*rant over
heh heh, back to your project. kudo to you, well done.
btw, I am soooo stealing your purple house idea.

You know, once that bear gets out of the pool, he’s going to smell funny until he dries out.

What wonderful pictures, thank you.
I had a blast decorating so many but it did take a long time, I hope I have given you guys some ideas/inspiration. You’re more than welcome to “steal” any idea (Cirocco) or mix and match.
I hope you guys have a chance to see them for yourself, there is a different music selection in each one also.
p.s. You are probably right Stormwaltz, but those guys up in Forochel are used to nasty smelling fish anyway so I doubt they will notice.

I recently did a revamp on my standard elven house, which had mostly been done in girly ‘Purty ‘style. I went man cave totally and anything remotely delicate was chucked out the door. Just doing that redo with lower tier items and bonded store/inn league stuff was a chore and a half.
I cant imagine how hard it was to coordinate with friends bonded items and trophies, getting them to reposition and wait for you to tell them to move it back to ‘over there’ for the 3rd time.
The only way I could do all the permutations of colors and textures was to load one char with all avail choices, then cycle thru them one at a time, then sign on other characters to place the inn league stuffs and bring in duplicates.
and that was just with lower tier stuff.
egads.
and one tiny house.
so.. most definitely… hats off to you for an awesome project, I appreciate all the work that you did in it.
now I am off to level my new f2p char to 15 and get me a deluxe house, hehehehehehehe
*runs off insanely chortling to myself

Excelent houses Missi,
I currently have a standard Elven house myself and also decorated my Dwarven friend’s house in front of mine.
I am going to buy a Deluxe house now and the sheer number of decoration hooks just overwhelms me.
Besides, I now have two more friend’s houses to decorate.
We’ll be buying / moving to a fresh neighborhood in falathorn and intend on buying the first 4 houses in Haven Way (1, 2, 3 and 4).
One of them is a Human Sailor/Spy (a champion guy), the other is an elven Lore-keeper lady (very nature friendly girl).
The main question for me is which hooks are where in the Deluxe house. I always see the number of diferent hooks and the number of rooms, but I don’t know which hooks are in which room, which is a pain for planning ahead.
Can anyone help me with that?

If you look at the Falathorn video on this page : http://www.casualstrolltomordor.com/2010/07/choosing-a-house-and-homestead-2/ you should be able to see the location of most of the hooks inside a deluxe elven house!

I tried that but it’s not easy to see most of them.
The small and thin furniture are almost impossible to spot.
Thanks for the quick answer anyway.

Wow, I love the decorations! Right now I’m saving up gold to buy a deluxe house and one kinship house (sometime int he future), but to have 12 houses? I wonder how I’d maintain everything
But it is very tempting! I’ve seen so much furniture and things that I’d like to have in a house. It’s incredible!
Anyway, great work!
