Collecting horses in LOTRO has long been one of my favorite aspects of the game. So, naturally, when I learned that he upcoming November update was to have new reputation mounts available, I was all over that!
These new mounts did not disappoint and I can’t wait for this update to go live so I can enjoy these new additions to my collection!
The prices listed are what I saw on a character that already has the mount discount. I do not know if the price would be different on a character who has never purchased a horse.
I’m including pictures of interesting details and what the horse looks like from the rear. Hey, if you’re going to be staring at it while riding, might as well know what it looks like before you buy, right?
Note: These mounts were originally listed as allowing you to block, evade or parry. Unfortunately, that feature will not be making it into the November update.

Update 11/30/10: My original assumption that this mount would be 168% speed has been found to be incorrect. This mount is the standard 162% speed.
Update 12/1/10: Found a dev post stating that the Rank 12 horse having only 162% run speed is a bug (no time frame listed on a fix, though).

The mount discount normally only applies to mounts from the horse farm, not rep mounts. Also, the prices here are in line with the other rep mounts, so they are probably what everyone will pay.

“Yeah, my horse’s nose is glowing. Get over it.”
I’m so excited about these new mounts! Like Ketani, the mounts are one of my favorite parts of the game. (though I’m clearly not as dedicated as she. Do you really have kindred with the Algraig already??)
At first, I had assumed that some of the areas in Eriador would have more than one rep mount available, but it seems as though they’re just proving mounts for the areas that didn’t have them before.
I think this is a great idea, as the more variety the better, I say. I’m slightly disappointed by the Esteldin horse (But that’s okay. I wouldn’t want to farm Dol Dinen for rep items anyway!)
I also think making the reputation horses that are earned have the more appealing stats is a stroke of genius, as it satisfies everyone. Those who want to earn the horse the hard way have a reason to do so, and those who think they’re pretty and want to buy them with TP still can.
In summation, I’m so happy that Strunto is already Kindred with the Mathom Society and I’m already groaning about the grind I have ahead of me getting my Captain Kindred with the Eglain, because that IS his horse.
November 3, 2010 at 10:50 am
Well, I’m Kindred with the Algraig on Bullroarer at least… They’ve increased the amount of reputation you get per quest, as well as adding another repeatable, so I was able to gain 4,900 rep per day compared to the 2.600 that is the current max on live servers. I’ll be finishing that grind on live this week, though.
I’m planning on posting a hints and tips guide for rep grinding soon-ish, so hopefully that’ll help. Oh, and my captain is grumbling a little since I post everything under my hunter’s name, but Ehefkae is really the one doing all the work of collecting these horses.
November 3, 2010 at 11:16 am
I would definitely love to read a rep-grinding guide! I mentioned earlier that I enjoy collecting the horses, but I’ve really only focused on the horses that I liked the looks of.
I understand that some of the skirmishes are going to start offering some reputation, so that should be helpful. And I do look forward to the extra Algraig repeatables. Are the current rep quests that you’re completing the small-fellowship ones involving the giants and the dragon type thingamabobs? I know there are a couple solo quests (though killing the half-orcs and wargs is the only one that comes to mind.) Am I missing something?
November 3, 2010 at 11:34 am
The quests you’re referring to (in the Nar’s Peak area of Thror’s Coomb) don’t actually give any reputation at all. You get an absurd amount of item experience and gold barter tokens, though.
As of right now, there are 4 Algraig repeatable quests. However, there was one quest for the Grey Company that gave you a choice for a follow up quest. If you did not take the “Protecting the Herd” option, you permanently lost out one of the daily quests and instead got an extra Grey Company one. The quest had red text saying “if you pick this one you can’t do the other!” but it never warns what the consequences of the choice really are (a much longer rep grind for the Algraig).
November 3, 2010 at 11:41 am
My apologies for dragging this out, but I clearly remember making that choice, and I definitely made the wrong one. D’oh! Thanks for your help!
November 3, 2010 at 11:01 am
Beautiful, and great detail. Ketani, can you confirm whether the existing Rep Horses, such as the Grey Company Horse, will have their stats increased as well?
Thanks for your work and looking forward to your reputation guide.
November 3, 2010 at 11:14 am
Yes, existing horses will be getting these buffs. The way I understand it, the buffs to reputation mounts are so they can get away with posting horses that look like rep mounts in the store, but give them the older, weaker stats.
November 3, 2010 at 11:07 am
Guess I’ll be crafting fishing rods so that I can get enough gold to purchase these mounts. I’m kindred with all Eriador factions except the one in the rift.
November 3, 2010 at 11:08 am
NOOO!!!!
This means i have to spend atleast 27g on horses within the next month! And with all the new mounts in the F2P-content…
…argh, I am going to be a poor again!
And I have to start play some pvmp to get to rank 12, that will be like 3-4 years of dedication in killing creeps!
November 3, 2010 at 11:09 am
“…a poor dwarf again!”
November 3, 2010 at 11:18 am
There’s nothing sadder in Middle-earth than a poor dwarf.
November 3, 2010 at 11:25 am
Well… there is one thing: An army of poor dwarves!
I have a small army of somewhat poor alt-dwarves. And they will now have to make donations to my main so he can have all horses/ponies/goats!
November 3, 2010 at 11:29 am
Why do we dorfs get stuck with goats?
Ah, well. It still looks cool!
November 3, 2010 at 11:37 am
One thing I found amusing was that the default name for my goat was “Wild Eye”. It is especially amusing considering the reason Goldenstar finds them creepy is because of their rectangular pupils.
November 3, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I always wondered why Thorin’s Hall never had a rep mount. I am happy to finally see one. Goats rule!
November 3, 2010 at 1:16 pm
I am a big fan of the goat. They look cool and can go everywhere. Although with the new regions I am spending much less time in Moria, and now with the insta travel to dungeons, even less time traveling.
I kinda miss actually being where the instance enterance is, sorta.
November 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm
1,2,3,4,5.. 6? This is going to drive me to bankruptcy.
November 3, 2010 at 3:05 pm
Well, at least the World Renowned and Elf Ambassador mounts are free and auto-granted when you meet the deed requirements. So maybe not totally bankrupt?
November 3, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Now all we need is a random mount plugin. Come on you LUA scripters. Get crackin!
November 3, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Oh, I know, right? If my calculations are correct, after this update goes live, there will be a total of 41 mounts available in-game. And that’s not counting the new Yule steed…
November 3, 2010 at 6:48 pm
Here is a random mount plugin: http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info376-Horseybyrushl.html
Here are two mount carousel plugins (one is for Men and Elves, and the other is for Dwarves and Hobbits: http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info407-MountCarouselMenandElves.html
http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info408-MountCarouselHobbitsandDwarves.html
November 3, 2010 at 7:46 pm
The only downside to these is that they will need to be updated manually with the new mounts by the authors as Our current implementation of Lua does not allow for the auto detection of mounts within the game. However these are great plugins to check out. Thanks for pointing them out.
November 6, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Actually the first one, horsey, does not need to be updated with new horses because it uses a quickslot bar that you put your actual mount skills in, but yes the mount carousel will need to be updated with the new mount data.
November 6, 2010 at 9:51 pm
Hmm, I’ve thought about using the Horsey mod, but I really like the mount carousel idea better. I’ve been using the pet version for my LM and it’s great.
November 3, 2010 at 6:17 pm
Hm, no horses for Men of Bree faction?
November 3, 2010 at 8:17 pm
Men of Bree has a rep mount already
November 3, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Yes, that was added back with Mirkwood. It’s the same appearance as the founder/starter slow horse, but normal speed.
November 4, 2010 at 10:39 am
I really, really hope they do crafting guild mounts some day. I think it’d be really cool and maybe less common, given that people can only be members of one guild at a time.
For Cook’s Guild, maybe you could get a horse carrying baskets with pies in them. For Jeweler’s maybe sacks full of jewels and metals. I’m thinking appearance wise kind of like the inn league mount.
I’d really love that.
November 4, 2010 at 10:53 am
Holy cow, that would be AWESOME. Have you mentioned this in the suggestion forums?
November 4, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Even as I’m cringing at needing 25g to get most of these and needing to step up my rep grinding, craft guild horses would just be cool!
November 4, 2010 at 12:28 pm
I just did. Thanks for the suggestion

November 4, 2010 at 1:40 pm
I love that the Mathom Horse is pictured next to an actual cow. Tres droll!
November 4, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Glad you appreciated that. Now if only I’d been able to find a dalmatian in game… LOL
November 4, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Heh, of course now I want one of each of these after drunk-buying a blue roan… hurpdurp. That Mathom horse is wonderful. And the Rivendell horse.
November 7, 2010 at 11:13 am
Ketani should start a petting zoo! Good article!
November 9, 2010 at 11:12 pm
Nice mounts! Liking the shire mount. Might be rarer to see the PvMP mount than the skeleton horse
November 10, 2010 at 12:32 am
Oh no doubt. Most servers have less than half a dozen freeps ranked 12 or higher. I know I’ve seen several dozen skeleton horses on Brandywine alone.
November 19, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Sadly, the new and updated rep mounts will not include the ability to block, parry or evade while mounted.

November 30, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Turns out I was wrong to assume the r12 horse would be 168% speed. It’s the standard 162%. Sorry for any confusion!
December 3, 2010 at 7:43 am
I liked it I have an expendable income I bought it, so eat it =p
if you want it and you can afford it then get it, there is no legit reason for anyone to poke at you for what you do with your money/points and if they do more than likely they are just saying, “i wish I had the money to spare”
on the same token, however, if they take some of the rep mounts (which in this game I’ve found reps to be stupid easy to get so it really doesn’t matter, say what you want about WoW but some of those mounts are HARD to get, sans the PvMP one and a couple metas none of the current mounts are hard to get) and give them the same look and the same stats that would be bad, to be honest I don’t like the idea of them even having rep mounts that look the same, having unique mounts that are only available in the store I see no issue at all with.
December 3, 2010 at 8:56 am
Personally, I have no problem with how people spend their money in the LOTRO Store. It’s their points whether they bought or earned them, so they should be free to spend them how they wish. My concern is with what Turbine will choose to put in the store. I am okay with what they’ve done so far mounts-wise, but who’s to say that they won’t put something in there that will bother me later? I’m already not quite at ease with the stat/virtue tomes in the store, but I don’t blame anyone for buying them.
