With the November update hopefully just around the corner, now is the time to stockpile materials to make all the pretty new dyes that are coming our way. Kia has already shown us a preview of what the dyes look like, so now it’s time for me to show you what you need to make them!
First of all, you’re going to need a scholar with the ability to use Supreme tier recipes. Of the ten new dyes, two are Master tier and eight are Supreme tier. Note: I am basing this on the Scholar’s Guild improved versions of the recipes, which may or may not be the same level as the non-guild recipes. Also, as with anything on Bullroarer, this information is subject to change at any time.
In addition to Supreme scholar ability, it would also be useful to be kindred with the Scholar’s Guild. They guild vendor sells improved dye recipes which will produce 5 dyes at a time.
Next, you’re going to need to be able to find the recipes in question. I haven’t been able to confirm this for all of the recipes, but it seems that they will drop off level-appropriate humanoids (orcs, goblins, men, dwarves, etc.) for the crafting tiers they belong to. I was able to find two of the Supreme level recipes on mobs level 51+ in Eregion, and I’m assuming that with enough time to farm these guys, you’d find the rest as well. I would imagine that the two Master level recipes could be found on similar mobs in the level 45-50 range.
Now, I am just going to list the special materials needed for each dye (not including the items you can purchase from a vendor). The optional scroll listed is the one needed to make the Scholar’s Guild improved recipe. These recipes are on a one day cooldown, and the recipes to make the scrolls are also on a one day cooldown (although you can stock up on them now to be prepared).

Of the recipe items listed, the following are found while farming, each as random critical success items from similarly named fields.
- Amaranth Petal
- Bluebottle Petal
- Juicy Elderberry
- Juicy Strawberry
- Lily-of-the-valley Leaf
- Onion Skin (green onion fields)
- Saffron Thread
These items are found in certain ore nodes:
- Pile of Copper Salts (copper)
- Piece of Sienna (tin)
- Piece of Umber (barrow-iron)
The rest of the items are found as random spawns on the landscape in various regions:
- Indigo Plant (Trollshaws, Eregion)
- Woad Plant (Lone-lands, North Downs)
- Yarrow Root (Bree-land, The Shire)
Because the prices of these items are likely to skyrocket after the November update is released, I highly recommend gathering what you can now. I also suggest making as many Master and Supreme small scholar scrolls as you are able, so that you can immediately begin making these dyes. After your wardrobe items are all adequately dyed, you should then be able to sell the surplus on the Auction Hall for a nice profit.

Time to get Merric’s farmer cracking on the items I need. Yeah I know I’m a farmer too but he’s just so much better at it than I am

Odd how they have Juicy Strawberry added to 2 of the new dyes…Something to drive that items price up once more suprised they dont have the juicy black berry subed in for the rose one.

Not to mention the fact that they put indigo in three of the new recipes. Woad, onion skins, lily-of-the-valley leaf and bluebottle petals are also in two recipes each. I’m a little confused as to why they doubled up on some of the recipe items and completely overlooked other existing dye materials entirely.

Oh, I know, some of the farmed dye components are insanely high priced. Unfortunately, this is largely because of the fact that the items are so rare. Even with a farmer who has mastered the tier in question, 10 fields of strawberries, for instance, will only yield maybe one juicy strawberry.
The good news is that scholars are also farmers, so it’s not too hard to work on both crafts on the same toon (although storage is an issue after a while).
